bandwidth =/= ping... also you suggest using the search function in your sig

Hacking had far less repurcussions in earlier days of t'interwebs, games didn't have unique identifiers like individual cd keys, so it'd just be an IP, hardware or username ban (easily circumvented for free) or you'd just have to generate another randomly valid key. The reason people steal keys is because bans are on a per key basis and because anticheat evolves, so they get banned using the old hacks and don't want to pay full price for the pleasure(!?) of cheating again with the newly developed hack - or they need a new key just to test their new hack, so they try and steal one. http://steamcommunity.com/app/224580/discussions/0/684839199418971993/ has a nice summary of what might get *innocent* people banned for hacking As stated here, your key is your responsibility: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/146077-global-ban-appealing-we-cant-make-is-prettier-we-can-make-it-easier/ 160k bans is pretty effective for anticheat even assuming that the current SA numbers are accurate for the number of players that played the mod (at a guess the mod had fewer, but I couldn't find a reliable figure)

I found one once and swapped it for the bible in the church :)

It could steal all the keys from your registry, then sell em for a dollar each to anyone interested. You can find all kinda discounted keys on the interwebs, most were not obtained legitimately. There's gold in them thar hills and it's *a reason* why you should be incredibly wary of any application from an unknown source. The fact it might also be logging your browsing history for passwords and bank details is another...
-
It wouldn't have to be specifically for dayZ. Any unverified .exe has/had the potential to steal cd keys from your registry. The chance of you being indirectly hacked based purely on your ip or somesuch is miniscule because it's harder to do and why do the hard option when there's plenty of people giving you the easy option already. EDIT: As mentioned above, they now need your email details AND steam details, so it's tougher, but Im sure someone'll still gift them it

There's another very easy exploit where players can remove pretty much anything from the map for easier visibility... it's known about and I'm not gonna post details :P

I have the best of both worlds atm, running a new rig and I learned how to optimise my imac running windows through bootcamp for gaming for the 8 years before that - So yeah, although my specs are shiny in my sig, I was running games til last year on essentially a badly specced 2005 laptop :D NB: Drill holes in the case if you want to OC the video cards in imacs...they get toasty
-
It was a flippant response to the guy suggesting a brand new PC for what seems to be a CPU bottleneck :P But yeah it's gonna be a 2015 game, sure you could trudge along on a 2005 PC, or a minor upgrade could give you a whole new lease of life. That said, this thread is more about people not knowing how to disable a ton of crap that begins on startup and overloads your current processing when gaming: formatting HD and reinstalling on a clear slate or just msconfig.exe ftw...NOT installing runmagamefast.exe as yet another program to help a problem you can solve yourself (which seems to be the issue with the player in question, just downloading more and more shit rather than dealing with the problem correctly)
-
I know...it's a PC, why not just buy a new CPU for 200 euros or so
-
http://www.howtogeek.com/171734/benchmarked-will-a-game-booster-improve-your-pc-gaming-performance/ Not really effective. And like I said, they just do stuff that you can do manually yourself - disable background processes. Old computers tend to have more shit running because of bad user habits.
-
Just seems a bit nonsensical to download and run another, possibly unverified program to lower cpu usage :/ Delete/disable all the crappy programs that are running in the background in the first place (and if you bought a PC premade from a shop there's probably a ton of crap you don't want running on startup so I'd format the drives and start from scratch). Make sure you actually read all those little texts asking you to tick/untick boxes when you download new (verified) software because more often than not they'll be trying to get you to add some piece of shit spyware at the same time (especially if it's free software in the first place). If explorer.exe is impacting on your cpu while gaming then I think you have some issues beyond a few fps in a game.

I never played the original, why is there 3rd person?

Actually, avoiding pvp is easier if you use 3PP...because you can see round corners before you put yourself in view and so decide not to go around if there's someone there. So yeah it's relevant. Tomb raider, a single player exploration, puzzle game. CS a competitive pvp shooter TBH, you're playing the risky way... safer to competely swap to a 1PP server when you approach a town because that's where the nooby pvpers are most likely abusing the exploit and watching you from the shadows. You may experience "unfinished features and problematic design decision"...cuz it's alpha...they can just delete all the 3PP publicity pics before they release the final version if they choose to go 1PP only, so it's really not a biggy. You decided to invest in an alpha and it's upto the devs where they want to take their game. But yeah I doubt 3PP will be deleted completely, hopefully it'll get fixed though cuz it's silly pvp for scrubs at the moment. BF4 was a full release, that's why they're getting in trouble for essentially releasing a buggy beta version (they're getting sued by their own shareholders for bringing the company into disrepute and costing them money or somesuch, not by the actual players who are unhappy with their product...big difference, I doubt Bohemia's shareholders would be unhappy with the money that DayZ SA has brought in (if they even have shareholders, cba to check)) EDIT: BF4 details -
Question on shooting on an incline and at an incline
floj replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
If you're firing on a flat trajectory, gravity is working directly perpendicular to the shot direction, so it only pulls the shot downwards hence we zero the sights to account for bullet drop (obvious) If you're firing downwards, Think about the direction of the bullet and the direction that gravity is pulling it. Part of the force will be causing it to arc, but also part of the force will be accelerating it (negligibly). The important thing is that the whole force of gravity is divided on these two actions and thus only affecting the trajectory by a fraction of what it would on a horizontal shot. Likewise for firing upwards except a portion of the force will be (negligbly) slowing the bullet rather than contributing to the arc... EDIT: Pythagorus is difficult to use and implement unless you know the relative sea heights of both target and shooter... so in the field people use some trigonometry: cos θ = adjacent / hypotenuse (cosine of the angle above/below target = horizontal distance / actual distance in layman speak)...not gonna explain cosines, google it :) -
Seriously, it hasn't even been a week, they're still working on the updates they mentioned in the last report. Maybe once they finish these, we might get an update on what the next ones will be...or do you want a personal hotline to demand what's going on? Bloody stupid entitled gamer generation.

Or it literally means it was 'worn' like clothing...which boggles/disturbs the mind a little

The song that explains DayZ fully?.. Should be DayZ's theme tune..

Someone needs to do a mashup of Rolling Stones - Free, Bjork - Human Behaviour and Gloria Gaynor - Survive...then we'd have about the right lyrical content :) -
Imagine passing a burned out, yellow reliant robin there :( Eh there's still a fair amount of guns here...just only the ones that are useful for things other than just killing people...farmer's have shotguns for pest control (usually very nice ones since farmer's are pretty damn rich) and if you go out into rural areas we have deer stalking and bird shoots still... we just don't feel the need for civilians to be able to buy the latest assault rifles (designed for killing people), pistols (designed for concealed killing of people) or huge caliber rifles (no bears around here anymore) and so you'd struggle to find those outside of military/armed police areas and the licensing and usage is obviously pretty strict! Back on topic...something other than temperate would be nice, maybe Vietnam for some jungle warfare or as mentioned above some desert/arid landscape action. I think mountains would be a right pain in the arse though

102 km of central London...including the deserted underground and suitably run down looking landmarks - least I'd have the local advantage then :)

The thing you like the most and the thing you hate the most about the standalone ?

Likes: Some players, finding can openers Dislikes: Other players, having to open tins with an axe -
Delayed killfeed would be nice, only updates with the killer/killee if they go and verify it, otherwise it just shows 'died' edit:typo

Hah I know, I just think some of the pro-arguments on this forum devolve into 'It's the apocalypse, we'll all be mass-murdering psychos who eat human flesh with no regard to morality or psychological trauma from participating in sub-human behaviours' As an atheist, maybe I'd just be more at risk of psychotic damage from acting like an asshole, cuz I couldn't just ask for forgiveness :D

or anything from Squarepusher's 'Feed me weird things' album /puts on hipster trousers Couldn't listen to OP without sighing and remembering how great Green Day *used* to be Nimrod/Dookie days... sigh -
I think you'd have to be quite a disturbed fuckup to think that hunting people for meat is gonna happen when there's tins of beans in a house a few miles inland as well as indigenous fauna to hunt. If it is implemented, I think it should only be an option to eat soylent green once your status is 'starving'

Voted for other cuz I'm really not bothered either way... Some might consider it the ultimate troll, but then your victim is gonna be respawning on the coast whilst your getting your hijinks from cutting meat off his corpse, so not really trolling at all, just amusing yourselves with no audience. I guess if I really had to pick and choose I'd vote against it since it just offers bandits an easy way to survive without doing any scavenging at all unless they add transfer of sickness + other related illness from eating human meat...and it could lead to a ban in other countries. So...meh
