Even better when they've been wounded already as well... Still no bloody idea The old ones are the best :) -
This sounds good...so no matter whether you're away for a night or a week, you still have a short period of being susceptible to encourage people to hide better/barricade a building.

Very nice link and it has a lot of the reasons why 3PP *is* a nice feature and has some ideas on how to fix exploits not mentioned in this thread - although it doesn't really address the issue of seeing over 7ft walls from a standing stance which seems to be the main grievance :( Also he doesn't mention my favourite part of 3PP which is being able to check your camo against your backdrop easily.

So many people miss NWAF - Keep heading North and if you hit a railway you've gone too far... if you go too far West (past Lopatino) you'll miss the railway entirely though :(

Got geared up, went between Elektro and Cherno to watch out for bandits, heard and saw someone log in right next to me on top of the cliffs so went to switch to my magnum for a holdup - then I desyncced so badly I saw him finish loading and start moving about before I could swap guns...so I logged out and went to play some games I bought during the steam sale til this desync is playable for me. -
I'm for the idea in general, but against anyway of implementation that has been mentioned. Holidays and lack of playtime for some gives the advantage to people playing 24/7...Maybe a random dice roll whe you log in determines on whether you got attacked in your sleep and you have to play out the attack in a night server before being allowed to join your normal one or somesuch?

I'm pretty sure Fraps etc just captures the video output of the PC rather than attempting to fiddle with the rendering stages themselves, which is why stuff like that is pretty easy to differentiate from hacks.

Hmmm...was it a 3PP server? Because bullets can travel through thin cover...maybe someone saw where you were hiding from the otherside of the open doorway, flanked and shot through the closed door at you? (or had a friend do so?) Yeah it's wall hacking, but it's a part of the game in 3PP :D

I like the idea, but I'm guessing you're mostly thinking of alt+look as a funtion - if a character walks up to a wall, then starts to walk along the length of the wall, surely the camera would still see over it?

Meh, I think the core gameplay would be too slow for *most* console players... they'd probably buy it based on reputation, youtube videos and alpha footage then quit after realising you have to walk across the map to get the kewl guns and gear.

Sorry, went off on a rant in my last post...but yeah xhair on screen doesn't change a thing with what the 3PP (as it's currently implemented*) issue is *basically if 3PP players added this disclaimer onto how 1PP players talk about 3PP you'd probably all get a lot less worked up

Gears of war is a single player, arcade shooter...it also has regenerating health when you stand behind cover, and enables you to peek fire from the same cover with almost perfect accuracy and minimal exposure - do you want that in DayZ as well? I think I'd kill myself if forced to play a pvp game like that; two players facing each other behind two walls, both endlessly waiting for the other to make a move so that they can do a perfectly aimed peekshot. Guaranteed stalemate (unless one of them is an idiot). As for 3PP ranged pvp games? World of Tanks springs to mind as the only one played at any serious level, because it has a huge part of its coding dedicated to dealing with visibility round corners and spotting enemies. Oh and FOV is the same in 1PP and 3PP, just shifted back a few metres, it's still the same angle shown on your screen, the FOV argument just shows up people that don't know what they're talking about. EDIT: lol I just found out Gears does have multiplayer...and it looks absolutely terrible. MP added as an attempt to extend the longevity of the game so that people don't take it to the 2nd hand store once they finish the main story I guess

Tape a xhair on your monitor... (which I know some people will do) and 3PP has the advantage again... but yeah Im up for removing xhair from 1PP as well anyways, I just find it distracting and won't hip shoot except in an emergency where usually the crosshair is completely useless in terms of gauging your weapon direction anyways.

Not gonna try it, but it seems all the ip's are saved in the net.txt file inside steamapps/common/dayz/...maybe deleting that would clear it? (do a steam validation after if you're gonna try) search for 'open' and you should get a line like: 5038.233: Ch(6):open(xxx.xxx.x.xxx:xxxx <-> 255.255.255.255:0) 5038.234: Pe(3):succ(xxx.xxx.x.xxx:xxxx)That's all I'm going on...

I think the public hive is nice, because playing solo I'll play with a UK ping, with friends I might play with a larger ping so that we can share the lag difference somewhat... that said I spend hours trekking across the map to meet up with people after going on a solo jaunt somewhere and leaving them in Olsha the night before. Also what happens if your usual server is full at peak times but otherwise empty? I do think the public hive needs to be more restrictive though...basically stop letting players swap back and forth as they choose and make them join a queue and be put in a server designated to them by the game: Make them play in a server with more players (stops people avoiding others for easier movement around the map), make them join servers with less loot nearby (to prevent server hopping), don't allow them to rejoin a server they just left (to prevent ghosting)...but first fix the desync...cuz I can't even see bandits on my screen if they have more than 4 medkits/ammox boxes/protective cases and come within 500m - once my hotbar stops working I log out or I die :(

To be honest that sounds like a nocebo effect. You've heard stories of withdrawal and had a fear of them and your own fear makes you sick. Sounds far fetched I know, but the mind is a powerful thing - hence why the inverse, the placebo effect is so well documented :)

Ty :) Get a friend to do survival stuff with you, watch him? Maybe make a friend by not KOSing them from an invisible position, lend them your fancy pants and watch them instead? Or just have the fourth wall type method implemented and you can watch yourself doing anything you like, you just won't be able to watch *other people* unless you'd physically be able to IRL. There's no way for people to see others through a wall, rock or round corners. Yes the sound design needs fixing for 1PP and 3PP (and also we need to rid the world of horrible VOIP not being overheard in the game so you can hear the spotters from a distance) The unrealistic part of that video is not that grenades used to fly in curves (indeed 'used to' seems superfluous unless the laws of gravity have disappeared whilst I wasn't paying attention). He knew exactly where the motionless enemies were, without needing line of sight. That's the lack of realism Front line is a very generic term, do you mean as in Trench warfare where people even invented a periscope rifle to shoot without exposing themselves? Otherwise they got shot by a sniper or hit by shrapnel whilst trying to observe no-man's land. They also dug forward 'listening posts' to advance close enough to listen to communication in the enemy trenches without sticking their heads up above the parapet. Anyway, good sound design and then implement the fourth wall idea seems to be what you want...and that's the same as me and the other advocates for this, so *high five* Put the periscope rifle in the suggestions forum if you want one, it's like a mosin, but only accurate to 90m.

I was trying to help a player like this last night in Stary Sobor... he was stood there, with an axe, bleeding...whilst I tried to talk to him another freshspawn charged at me so I gunned him down...went and bandaged the axe guy, gave him saline, dropped my unloaded M4 then dropped a magazine and ammo a little distance apart...he just stood there, just watching me... so I picked it up again and left him stood there watching over the corpse of a foolish freshspawn (really foolish...I mean to suicide when u spawn in Stary Sobor? The world is your oyster from there)

Havent seen it mentioned yet, but it should be a simple enough fix and yeah it's been reported to be quite widespread so it should be dealt with soon enough.

Question on shooting on an incline and at an incline

It's a bit of a simplified explanation, but glad it helped :) http://www.longrangehunting.com/articles/angle-shooting.php was where I first checked. But for a more in depth look at the math (it's actually a bit more complicated than just using the horizontal distance...but it's near enough for most cases) and some diagrams etc...then check the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifleman%27s_rule although there's a lot of complicated math I didn't even start to wade through on there.
