I'd recommend shifting Chernarus a bit further towards the Arctic circle and basing the game in summertime, so it's *almost* 24/7 daylight, but with the light levels similar to dawn/dusk for longer periods. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_sun

With the number of server hoppers I found it next to impossible to get ammo and first choice drops from Balota without getting shot and/or without joining the ranks of server hoppers myself - I tried it, got very bored of it and noticed everyone was doing the same thing anyway so you have to wait til the wee hours of the morning AND get lucky on the server you join. Spend the time trekking upto one of the Northern airfields and hope that no-one server hops into you up there. Balota is just plain terrible unless you have the patience to check every server due to the proximity to the spawns. Either a fresh spawn will have hightailed it there from their starting blocks, or a bandit group will be camping it for the aforementioned fresh spawns.

If the noun begins with a vowel, you should use 'an' as the indefinite article, not 'a'. The letter 'i' when used as a pronoun, should be capitalised. Apostrophes exist for a reason (to indicate omitted letters or to show the possesive case of a noun). Proper nouns, such as Mensa, should be capitalised. If it wasn't for the inconsistencies in your writing I'd be perfectly accepting that you NEVER use capitalisation because it's marginally slower to type (although I'd expect anyone of an IQ that high to have typed numerous school and/or university papers and so be a fairly competent typist in this day and age) - but not knowing how to use indefinite articles is really a basic error in English, it sounds plainly wrong when people try to speak with the omitted 'n's (it's all to do with phonemes and how you separate similar sounding ones to break up the words so you don't sound like a retard and others can understand you more clearly). For someone with genius intelligence you sure like to play fast and loose with the rules of grammar... and play a lot of video games... why don't you go cure cancer? TLDR: I strongly suspect you don't have an IQ of 179.

Find the nearest town and find either a railway station or a road sign with the name on and cross reference it here: http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Chernarus#Towns_and_Cities Then arrange a suitable meeting point here: (faster loading and more detailed map than previous poster :P - but the above map will be better once spawns are all added!) http://hydra-images.cursecdn.com/dayz.gamepedia.com/Gmap/beta/gmap.html Each of you work out whether you need the sea on your left or right then follow the coast - stay a few hundred meters inland unless you're on a completely empty server to avoid bandits. *edit: about map differences

But the server hoppers are the elite pvp'ers no? I was practicing my night navigation in a relatively empty server last night - long story short: started in Kamenka, stayed off the coast to Balota then tried to reach Zelenogorsk but ended up in Nadezhdino :( BUT whilst I was in the area around Balota I heard an almost endless stream of gunfire from the airbase. For awhile I just watched the runway from the western end and saw fresh spawns chancing a dash across the tarmac to be taken out by a 'PVP-pro' defending his goodies xD

So as a fresh spawn in I hear a ton of commotion as the picture appears. Multiple zombies and a survivor somewhere, somewhere close. I run into the nearest barn looking for something, anything to fight with in case one or the other find me. Cargo pants, nope. Hoody, nope. A ruined t-shirt, ripped into some rags and stowed away. Hat, nope. The survivor runs past me in a Hoxton mask, unarmed. Why would you waste the time to pick that up a mask whilst chased by zombies I ponder. He runs past me and disappears back out the exit as I rush past his pursuing zombies into another barn. Wood axe, score. The survivor comes in and sees me picking up my new weapon. We look at each other and pause. The pursuers arrive. Without hesitation I run past him and take on the two zombies within the narrow confines of the barn. Both Zombies down but I took a hit so I stop to bandage. As I finish my bandage animation I hear the survivor approach and hit me once with his fists. What a douche. I'm safely wrapped up with barely any bloodloss and ready to teach him a lesson with a quick chop to the torso, he runs around and I casually follow the human blood-geyser. No need to rush as he'll have to bandage soon. Finally he stops and starts bandaging, I swing my axe for the deathblow. Ch- He disconnects. I enter the farm house, yay a fireaxe to replace this wood chipper... we coulda had an axe each Mr Hoxton if you hadn't tried to kill your armed saviour with your bare fists.

To be honest, I really wasn't too bothered about the combat logging. Wherever he logs in he'll be down a load of blood (it was a gusher and he ran for a minute or two before healing), which for a fresh spawn is a pain in the arse especially since you've apparently just completed a desert trek before you spawn. Basically he's a dead man walking unless he gets a ton of luck, personally I'd have taken the second hit and respawned relatively fresh. What made me lol was the fact I helped him out firstly by not directly killing him as soon as I had the axe in my hands (maybe the story doesn't show this too clearly but it was a clear 10s or so that I deliberately didn't advance and threaten the guy before the zeds arrived) and secondly by clearing the area of zeds so that we could scavenge more leisurely...and he pays me back with a fist in the head xD

Close combat hints (I need, I'm not giving sorry)

Cross hair means nothing with melee. My best results have been with the two axes and the wrench in first person. Hammer is worst than fists imo. -
Chances of a human hostage staying logged in whilst you trek him upto a slave trader? What's really in it for him/her? xD

The important thing with saline is it repressurises the system... imagine an empty hosepipe and put a little water in, nothing will come out the far end... but if the whole pipe is full of water already, putting some in one end pushes some out the other... now tie your hosepipe into a loop and you have a crude circulation system :)

I had this as well - basically keep on eating/drinking until you're about to throw up and then sit in a nice warm place for 10-20mins and you'll gradually see the colour come back, also it'll say 'Healthy' where it says hungry/thirsty, not sure if that appears before the colour comes back though. It's a bit hit or miss -
- People would just kill themselves over and over to get the right spawn type if you don't give them the starting choice UNLESS there's such a large number of initial spawn types that you'd have to spend hours finding zombies/bandits to kill you that number of times... maybe have different varieties of spawn within each class - to steal from my earlier example - nurse/GP/field doctor/surgeon could all be various classes of medic - not necessarily in a hierarchical sense (ie one's not necessarily better than the other) but diferent in terms of starting gear and specific skills: Nurses can bandage waaaay quicker than a surgeon can, especially for more mundane injuries (minor lacerations etc) but might spawn with less in the way of prescription meds or be less effective at more advanced medicine (using antibiotics, healing gunshot wounds), field medics would be amazing for the gunshot wounds, but not so good in terms of healing infections or general sickness... likewise for mechanic/technician you might have a NASA engineer, your day-to-day sparky, car mechanic or someone from the local mobile phone repair shop. - I disagree with purely learning from repetition of a task, sure it might be able to improve you a small amount, but it in no way matches learning the small tricks and tips you pick up from watching a master work. Maybe have a small increase in skill attainable from purely repeating the task, a larger increase from repeating AFTER reading a textbook on the matter or a very large increase from assisting a master and then repeating the task yourself (which still wouldn't make you a master, but pretty damn close). - I think grinding won't be too much of a matter once resources and infections are balanced properly, shooting (or more likely slashing) your friend in the leg repeatedly will just end up in wasted bandages and sterilisation/antibiotic ingredients - so far I haven't had a single instance of infection from using torn up rags and have found a surplus of medical supplies to treat this... Some other subcategorisations off the top of my head: day hiker/mountain climber/scout leader/mountain rescue (probably a bit too risque for the press to actually have scouts themselves being butchered in Chernarus, although it'd be a bit Battle Royaleish - awesome film) dinnerlady/kitchen porter/chef/Heston Blumenthal regular police/armed police/private/marine/sas

If you could pick a piece of existing music to play at Main Menu

I'd go with some classical or ambient stuff with a darkish edge Boards of Canada - Even the video is a bit DayZ(ish) already - love it when the 80's synth comes in after 2mins, reminds me of Dawn of the Dead's original soundtrack -

Sally... I'm just thinking of potential solutions to boring KOS-ing - I'm not a programmer (beyond a very basic hobbyist level) but I do understand logic and game mechanics. Why are you getting so ragey and argumentative about my suggestions? I'm not trying to catch every single KOS situation, just eliminate a large number of the most boringly predictable ones in a practical way - Rocket has already said that he's not a particular fan of pvp so I suspect he'll probably be implementing some kind of measure himself anyways... til then you better get up on that coastal roof and make the most of your easy kills. -
Fixed it for you :)

Look at it from the otherside, I'm not proposing for it to understand any communication: Person gets shot He hasn't seen/heard his assailant and is carrying nothing. And since I said it needed refinement anyway I'm gonna add another couple of levels to the potential differentiation: He's greater than X meters from his attacker and hasn't participated in any aggression of his own in the last 10 minutes... That seems fairly unlikely to have any false positives. -

It can't exactly... but it can approximate it at least. 'Have both players heard/seen each other? Are they mutually aware of each others location?' 'Is the victim holding anything antagonistic?' Sure it needs more refinement, but the majority of KOS situations could be detected by simple logic. -

Just added some thoughts on this in another thread: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/158954-the-value-of-a-character/ -
Just had this same idea whilst posting in another thread... Maybe some slight learning ability when travelling with 'masters' of each class, but it's not like you'll learn 7 years of medschool in the field... maybe some skills would be completely blocked at first but could be partially learned from actually assisting in procedures, as well as speeding up the procedures. Nurse/Doctor/Surgeon - obvious! Anyone could roughly bandage someone up that's bleeding, a doctor would have you patched up in half the time but would be even quicker with a third person to put their thumb 'there' whilst they tie the knot. Engineer - maybe separate roles as mechanic/technician if radios need patching up as opposed to cars. As already mentioned, a noob could probably change a tire or battery, but wouldn't have a clue what the malfunctioning part even is if an engine isn't starting. Soldier - weapons maintenance/use... personally I probably wouldn't even be able to cock a gun IRL but then I'm not from a country where thats commonplace, I could probably swing an axe ok but might lose a finger or two in a panic. Less steady aim and more chance of a jam unless this is your specialty, although you could have your weapon specialist clean up your guns to a better level Cook - Can open a tin of beans at a basic level whilst your canteen workers will be able to bulk out the grub with some flour or foraged ingredients. Top level chefs will make even the rotten stuff edible if they find some wild herbs and have a fire to cook on. Then additional attributes like fitness/musculature could come into play, affecting terrain traversal speeds, general dexterity, load bearing and stamina levels as well.

Another thing to consider (in real life at least) would be what could a new survivor potentially bring to your group... did you just shoot the only experienced surgeon on the island? Maybe the only guy who could have MacGuyvered a working radio set together from a box of matches and some wire or patched up that battered 2CV... Or ya know, just kill em and camp on that roof until the survivors stop walking past for you to grab their supplies -

To be fair, I think OP had some good ideas about game design mechanisms, which *could* be added to the game. Pretty reasonable for a post about an alpha product no? Then the KOS kiddies got their panties in a twist. To expand on those initial ideas, something like the fear mechanism from the Amnesia series would be kinda interesting - although over debilitating as they implemented in that particular series. **minor grammar edit
