I have no idea where to go...

http://hydra-images.cursecdn.com/dayz.gamepedia.com/Gmap/beta/gmap.html personally I prefer this map over the loot spawn one, since loot spawns are most likely gonna change throughout the alpha AND it loads quicker on my snail-net :)
  2. Actually it's 4 dimensional since there's 3d objects and time passing... just because you have the 3 visible dimensions mapped onto a 2d panel makes not a jot of difference, still 3d Im afraid. Im sure in the future someone will make a mod to enable red/green or polarised 3d for you to look at it through...(and time will still be the 4th dimension)...

    Spawn changes

I can see the aim - make East coast the spawn point which decreases the activity at the two largest cities (both on South coast) in the game and make players head West for their goodies... makes perfect sense imo. inb4 NEAF turns into the new Balota.

The only solution for DayZ: Simulation.

Absolutely love the detail of your post. BUT I disagree with some points. I don't agree with the 'skill' of flying/taking off of aircraft OK, so you have to learn a few steps to getting the heli in the air...once... Then that knowledge is with you til the end of time, whether your character is freshly spawned or not. I think there comes a point where a 'gamification' of elements is a necessity to keep the newbies and pros on some kind of par. Are we gonna ask for newbies to learn the different ways to suture effectively? How to clean a weapon? How to use a can opener correctly (believe me I've had to lol at seeing some fresh spawns at uni struggle with an old fashioned one)... basically yeah if you can fly an aircraft IRL good for you, if you're a medic IRL, again good for you (arguably better imo since you're not polluting the world with CO2 whilst showing off your skills...) BUT it's a game. You are a freshly spawned zombie apocalypse survivor. Would you know how to suture? Possibly. Would you know how to fly a helicopter? Unlikely. Would you know how to fire a gun...would you know all three? Unlikely unless you were a member of the medics in the army that flew a heli or lived in 'merica. As I've mentioned before in prior threads I'm a big fan of studying game mechanics and I don't believe that because someone has played a game to death that they should have such an advantage over a beginner. Also as I mentioned in another thread, having the potential for game-level enforced skills might decrease the KOS chance. "Oh great, you can fly a copter/suture this wound/remove this bullet, I won't kill you...YET." I do appreciate that the game should be tough, but there comes a certain level where simulation is TOO in depth and also in having mastered what depth there is, it would become a shallower experience for the vets. "Oh I already learnt that I have to do ABC to suture a wound, or I can fly a heli, or I can find which transistor is faulty and replace it in a radio or I can gut a rabbit or I can make an engine from scratch or I can...." Personally I'd just consider skill learning as 'mental gear' that has to be acquired from interaction with other players instead of from an airfield.
  5. Well done both of you for missing the point. Irregardless of esports, PvP is competition. 3rd person views ruin the competition by making turtling/camping in cover the most effective tactic. Thus both teams turtle. No-one wins, the crowd goes home bored. Hence why there are no 3rd person esports and why 3rd person sucks for pvp. The end. EDIT for the ad hominem attempt: I do still play Quake and I am in the top level of players but am nowhere near the highest echelons that can earn (reasonable) money from it. If I was ten years younger and wanted to earn proper money playing a competitive FPS it'd be from Counterstrike - I don't think it's as highly skilled on an individual level as Quake is but sadly Quake is nearly 20 years old now and with the huge increases in graphical fidelity during the 90s, the most popular games have 'evolved' into more realistic shooters. Put a bunch of Quake players into a CS server and they'll finish in the top places once they've learned the map and specific game mechanics (stutter stepping etc), put us in a COD or BF server and it's even more apparent. I play many games of all varieties and am hugely interested in game design and mechanics...which is why I'm participating in the alpha - my sig is purely a fuck you for all the COD kiddies running around.

    How to use ammo boxes??

Equip the ammo box into your hands and then drag the ammo into the magazine (think you have to eject the magazine from the gun as well)
  7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_sports_titles_by_genre Seems in terms of competitive gaming, you're absolutely on the money. No 3rd person games listed...because it's pointless playing competitively when a guy can watch you from behind a wall or from a rooftop without direct LOS... which is why 3rd person PvP is lol-stupid (unless limited to close combat without cover mechanics)

    1st person V 3rd changes ?

Certain servers can be made FPS only, others will maintain the ability to switch as before...officially there will at some stage be a separate hive for FPS only servers. It's upto the server admins
  9. I doubt they'll be more popular... But then popularity is never a barometer of quality (see COD and pop music) When I play TPS I feel like I'm playing a game, when I play FPS I get immersed in the world - it's a huge difference in feeling

HARDCORE - we need place for meet

Go read news and announcements thread... then facepalm :)

Do you patiently to loot each house?

Visible zombies + closed doors = pretty safe unless it's Elektro/Chern I'll be as thorough as possible in situations like this sometimes I'll even take the time to open up some tins of my own and make space for new loot if I'm in a remote town, but that's me being lazy/exploitative with third person view - set myself up crouched in the corner of a room with the camera looking out a window and feast away, I won't be doing this in FPS servers which is all I'll be playing from now on (so much more immersive!) :)

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113925

Yay FPS servers and dead bodies remaining! Time to unlearn all that horrible corner peek cheating I taught myself in the past few days
  13. From reading your post, you are NOT a KOSer...just a sometime bandit when necessary. You assess threats and your own needs before taking action, you don't camp the fresh spawn areas and Kill On Sight
  14. You shooting from first or third person? Aim is horribly inaccurate from TPS, from FPS you can be a one-man army. Also remember to burst fire, 2 short bursts of 3-4 rounds is better than firing a whole clip in one go.
  15. KOS'ers do this for my 'fucking' playstyle...if they see me and succeed in their aims (not so far)

    Need some help :D

Probably playing in the wrong resolution? Check all the video settings and make sure it's correct aspect ratio etc etc etc

    What do you think about.....Ghillies?

Not really bothered with having more milspec stuff in the game like CS skins etc... Would rather have a swiss army knife or a ball of twine
  18. No point attempting to balance things like this until the game is feature complete. I think all the mags are oversized really but until encumberance is added then slot size is all the inventory control to worry about - I'm still sprinting like a gazelle with a fully laden pack (ammo box and medkit stuffed inside and full as well), fireaxe and M4. 30 bullets takes one slot... 20 bullet mag takes 2 slots, 60 bullet mag takes 2 slots Small tin of tuna takes 1 slot, big tin of beans takes the same. As mentioned by Khad, you need to be able to stack smaller items onto of each other AND weight of objects needs to be taken into account before the inventory can even start to be balanced - but all in good time :)
  19. Nice bunch of people came and gave me a saline drip after an altercation with an attempted axe murderer (Axe murderer 0 - 1 M4 wielder) It's a big map so be prepared for a wait and just enjoy their comms chatter :)
  20. I saw the second pic from above as well, not sure if it's server side or a part of the landscape since I was just passing through - IIRC it was at some ruins including a church between Mogilevka and Guglovo - there's a church in the middle of nowhere on the maps if you want to find it yourself
  21. floj

    What do you think about.....Ghillies?

Should be craftable from burlap sacks, fishing nets, spray paint and currently existing camo http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Ghillie-Suit edit: yt vid showing how to make them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_TEur7T-KM

    finding an axe

In terms of zeds around towns whilst looting, I find it's best to try your luck and grab as much as possible from a few houses in one part of the town, then once you get the attention of the zed(s) you can run back the way you came and then loop back round. This leaves the zeds to lookout over the buildings you've already cleared for anyone following you. Until I find an axe/baseball bat/wrench/crowbar I tend to avoid killing the zeds and just manipulate the AI like this. Less damage to yourself and a free pair of eyes on your six (I play solo so this is v helpful). And yeah, I avoid Balota Airfield until I've got armed up from the North and want to come play with the pvp'ers - too many clans/groups of players/server hoppers for anyone soloing to have a chance at getting in and out in one piece imo.

    human claymore

    1. Grab hostage 2. Strap him into a bomb vest 3. Give him a mosin with a single bullet 4. Send him into clear the nearest city for you, he's gonna die whether he does or not 5. Profit Would be a bit safer if there were blanks as well as live ammo in the game, but I really couldn't face the pain of finding a gun, magazine, scope and then just fake ammo, it's better off finding no ammo at all :)
  24. The week after Christmas. The week before New Year's Eve. Rocket's been working on it quietly until he launched the Alpha, give the man and his team a break xD
  25. I really think skype is a bit lame in terms of meta gaming for DayZ, would kinda like to see the game have someway of disabling external comms and forcing people to use inbuilt radio options (if they find them)... It's the apocalypse but everyone can talk and arrange a meeting place at their convenience (and unheard by people stood next to them)
