  1. Yeah headbob seems to affect some players badly in terms of motion sickness. Personally I'm fine with it. One issue I do have with FPV is that some items on top of wardrobes seem to be out of reach/unseeable, so if I'm in a TPV server I loot from third person... but usually Im in FPV so...I just miss some stuff. Tiptoe button or mini stepladders please devs?
  2. They don't even make my life a misery in the game because they won't find me unless I decide to go get milspecced myself (usually I just grab some brown cargo pants, green raincoat and a green bp and I'm camo'd up enough to avoid them... last life I've had all that, an M4 and even found some proper camo trousers within an hour without going anywhere near the military zones... only thing I had to ask a buddy for was a magazine and some ammo. It's just on the forums they annoy me because they essentially want the game changed so that they can be spawned in with everything needed to go and hunt other people...which is why I said, go play Arma if you want that
  3. I have no problem with avoiding people that want to play it like that, they're generally not the best at military tactics anyways...otherwise they'd be playing a dedicated military sim. I don't intend to stop people playing the game like that if they want to miss the point and uniqueness of the product. What I don't want is the game to be balanced in their favour. "OMG I WANT GUNS NAO FOR PEW PEW"
  4. DayZ is a multiplayer open world survival horror video game in development by Bohemia Interactive and the stand-alone version of the award-winning mod of the same name. (wiki) Perhaps the reason rocket has decided to make it standalone is so he can incorporate more survival elements than were possible from just making it a mod of a military sim? Such as being able to add respawnable zombies, additional elements such as cooking, hunting, dietary needs, crafting...all the stuff mentioned in the future updates? Just because the mod was limited and so devolved into people treating it as a military sim (making servers where people spawned with weapons/vehicles etc) doesn't necessarily mean that the intentions of the devs is to make it a military sim itself. Indeed I don't see ANY references from the devs that this will be designed as a military sim, it's pitched as a survival horror MMO. Useless IF you're treating it as a military sim...
  5. It's not a military sim tho...go play Arma if you want to hunt people with assault rifles? It's a survival sim, there's an over abundance of milspec gear and locations already imo.
  6. I can't disagree with that Victor since I am relatively inexperienced, although I'm over 50 hours since SA was launched (new job starting soon so getting my gameplay in now!). But the way the OP phrased it as "I would suggest creating some military objects at the east" Unless this is supposed to have been the middle of a warzone right before the outbreak, I don't really understand why there's already so many military bases within such a small area already .oO FWIW I just checked out RAF bases in the UK as a yardstick. The county with the largest density of them is Lincolnshire with 10 airbases. That county is 7000 square km... so you'd expect about one airfield every 700 square km. In DayZ we have 3 within 25 square km. EDIT: Checked Steam and had less hours than I guesstimated ^^ EDIT EDIT: Added info about Lincolnshire

    DayZ On Sale?

One word. Minecraft. Discounted alpha price, then raised to full retail afterwards. That was a really dumb idea wasn't it, remind me how much Notch is worth now please?
  8. I've enjoyed looking at all the different scenery in all the different areas I've visited - I never played the mod so the whole thing is new to me and I guess I just like exploring games. If I want to go play bang bang shooty shooty then I go play a first person shooter...not the alpha of a survival game. If you like the mechanics and shooting of this game, I'd recommend buying a copy of and playing Arma. It would save you having to do ANY running at all to go get yourself tooled up AND you might get a good fight instead of just taking potshots at unarmed bambis.
  9. /me hopes you haven't just opened a new floodgate of bad taste.

    Belts and other accessories?

I'd just like a belt of any kind... or braces. Apparently every pair of trousers I find is a 32W 30L and fits like a glove and all the shoes are a size 10 - I don't even find jeans that fit so often when I go to the local shops.
  11. Please stop just thinking about the game as PVP in the wilderness where everyone needs military loot. The reason the spawns were moved was to prevent people just running around Balota without exploring the rest of the map, at least now it forces the ones that want to PVP to actually attempt to navigate even though many just suicide to respawn near the South to go to Balota still since it doesn't involve having to leave the easy landmarks of the coast. For next patch can we have the coastal area temporarily removed so that some of these kiddies learn to navigate properly?
  12. Since the footprints are caused by a player which already has it's information sent/recieved by the server, the footprints *could* be dealt with in a mostly client-side fashion. Just have your PC remember each characters movements from the last 5/10minutes and then display the corresponding trace... I have no idea on how much CPU/GPU load this would cause though and it might end up as a hidden pay2win factor. The kids with the most RAM can store a longer footstep trail to follow xD
  13. I hope it's implemented eventually... but I'm really not too bothered by people denying me a kill as the game stands right now. Probably the only issue I have is having to check my back for 10minutes afterwards for the rare cases they're actually being really stealthy and didn't actually log.

    Spotting your enemy.

Don't hit the deck unless you're near cover and doing so will most likely break their LOS. It's usually better to zig zag sprint towards the nearest 'safety' and then try to locate them. If the sniper has a height advantage then lying down in the middle of a field just gives them a nice slow target to rain shots down on.
  15. Sounds like fresh spawns on the East Coast need to leave the East Coast.

The only solution for DayZ: Simulation.

I think the trouble with having levelling purely inventory based is that pvp clans etc have an unfair advantage - this will be exacerbated once storage options are added. On spawning all you have to do is hook up with your squad and get re-equipped and you've gone from level 0 to level 100 in 30 minutes just like the people who currently server hop at airfields. Some form of skill progression based upon learning and repetition of actions solves this.

    Spotting your enemy.

Personally I found running around with my own squad helpful in terms of working out just how visible others can be. Even on voicecomms we managed to lose the camo guys within mere metres when they stood still. As already said though, observe some of the larger towns whilst proned/poking out of a suitably coloured bush on the outskirts and you should be able to see a few guys running about. If your enemy is camo'd up, with the right camo for the terrain behind them AND immobile - you most likely won't have a chance to see them, even at moderately close range.

PvE Server - Killed by a Human

To become a better player, concentrate on learning how to avoid getting shot, rather than just running to get 'good' loot to join the deathmatch mentality already happening. Any melee weapon Anything to open tins Anything with better storage options - coats/cargo trousers/backpacks A water container Those should be your priorities before you even think of tooling up with 'good loot' for PvP and fighting other players. Learn to avoid all confrontation until you have this sorted - sprint in-land, find a quiet town to loot, learn to observe before running across open land or choose a new route to avoid open land...
  19. A few of us were vigilanteing down the East coast last night/this morning but we only saw one aggressive bandit clubbing another to death in Berezino right as we started heading down... he went down pretty quick although we couldn't bandage up the guy he'd attacked (kept getting the 'player has moved and bandaging failed' message) After that we donated some can openers, food and water to fresh spawns but had to kill half of them because once we went to help the next spawn they attempted to attack us with their fists (group of four of us, 3 with M4s and one sniping with a Mosin)...and a ton of them just climbed buildings and leapt to their deaths anyways. Lotsa deathmatch idiots wanting to spawn down South still. No hostile contact with properly armed bandits though, but we weren't in the mood to server hop and actively hunt them.

    Stream Sniping A Huge Problem

Sounds like a confidence trick. Make out that other people are anonymously donating huge sums of moneh and it guilt trips other viewers into loosening their own purse strings somewhat. That said, I know of very rich players IRL in Quake that have donated thousands in prize money and subscriptions to less well off players. In a similar vein the Quake clan I was a member of sent out some gaming mousepads, subscriptions and other bits and bobs to various younger clanmates (who didn't have jobs and lived in poorer areas of the world). So, donations *might* happen, although $25000 sounds pretty excessive for someone just streaming. OT: Streamers are a tiny percentage of players and as already stated, celebrity stalkers are the price of chasing fame.
  21. They REALLY need to fix the sound design for FPV to be more engaging/less pant-wettingly tense. Trees opening cans of soda and rabbits chasing me whilst moaning like zombies have me spinning round, pulling my axe out and whimpering like a girl

PvE Server - Killed by a Human

As already stated there are currently no servers where shooting at other players isn't allowed. Also I'd suggest that even when friendly fire servers are created, they still won't be purely PvE. Players will still be competing in terms of collecting the resources for survival and since players will be competing in this manner, technically it'll still have PvP - even though they might not be deathmatching each other. @OP: Of more concern is that you die within 10minutes on a server everytime. Learn to look around yourself and get away from the spawn areas - and not just to get to the military camps. So far I've died ONCE to bandit activity, as a fresh spawn when I chanced my luck and ran straight to Balota from spawn without any care at all. Usually I get a good 10+ hours in before a server glitch kills me and no I don't just hide in the wilderness, I travel around looking for bandits near the hotspots or just generally exploring the map.
  23. I heard it's a server update error...so it's not something that can be preempted and warned about
  24. Happened to me as well. I'm happy about it - was getting bored that I had nothing new to look for.

    Got a compass..

Press space to raise it up, you have to be walking or stationary to look at it... Or inventory + inspect means you can check it whilst sprinting
