Vehicles should be a very late stage part of your survival experience... to be honest unless you actually have a reason to travel for the cause of survival (ie absolutely no water and food left within walking distance or leaving the island to fly to somewhere closer to civilisation) I don't really see the point in having vehicles in a survival sim... but that's gonna be quite a contentious point for some people to handle

Submit bug reports in the bug reports area. Suggest additional content (not demand it be implemented immediately), test things out, report on how current gameplay works and discuss that in the forums...that the point of an open alpha. But yeah, threads like this probably won't stop the 99% of threads demanding fixes for issues that will probably remain for a long time down the line. 90's and 00's were the Golden Age of Gaming. We're now in the Age of Entitlement.

i need some explanation about the re-spawn system
floj replied to anis_tar's topic in New Player Discussion
There's definitely a spawn just West of Elektro, had it last night after a ladder glitch, think that's the most Western though -
The bandwidth requirements of the game seem pretty high when players are in close proximity to each other, especially larger groups with containers - ammo boxes/medkits/protective cases. Had this when my smaller group of 3 of us joined up with some others to make a group of 8 on a high ping server last night, I literally was perma desync'd so had to leave the group until they'd split up to do different tasks. The problem was worst when we bunched up within about 100m. Likewise I had a large desync whilst 1v1 melee fighting someone earlier in the day. I'd be interested if you also have a low up/down speed like myself (check speedtest.net if you don't know). It's probably just because server traffic hasn't been optimised yet.

help find my position in the map( image inside )
floj replied to anis_tar's topic in New Player Discussion
You're on the East Coast in the far North of the map (North of Berezino)... pretty much head directly SW for the direct route, or just follow the coast South and round for the easier route (but with much higher chance of meeting bandits enroute) EDIT: SE/SW doh -
Magical stats that improve farming ability = knowledge of weather patterns/soils/seeds/farming equipment. A farmer learns and improves these magical stats during his lifetime as a farmer. It's not inconceivable to imagine that maybe out of all these adult survivors of the apocalype, some of them had a job with specialisation before the zombies arrived and so would be better at some things than others. Personally I won't like the fact that players spawning as someone used to weaponry might have a steadier/faster recovering aim than me spawning as a medic - but in the RL apocalypse after trawling around the landscape for hours and finding a gun would you be giving that to the ex-marine or the doctor in your group? And if you took a bullet which would you want to administer first aid? OHMAHGOD - it's player interaction aside from deathmatching.

Medical system for DayZ Part 1 – Self-treatment of wounds:
floj replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Love it - 1 quick word to add: superglue. -
Massive desync means people see you without you seeing them... I had it last night whilst running round with a group of buddies (8 of us), they could see me whilst on my client their models were all 10mins back the way we came from. Fortunately I was with friendlies, but if there had been hostiles in the area I woulda died without having a clue. For me the problem was most likely playing with just a 1mbit connection whilst around a team of highly geared up medics (the various containers, medic/ammo/protective bags all cause additional lag) and I was playing on a 200ping server as well. Only solution for me is to only ever buddy up with 1/2 others, although I have no idea what's gonna happen if we meet another large group in close proximity...guess it'll be back to the coast :) So it coulda been a bug.

OK, I'll refine why it's a bad idea. Send your nooby freshspawn character to tool up...then offload to your friend's primary character... have him return the favour with his freshspawn for your primary... each of you end up with pimp gear without ever risking anything.

I don't understand why you quoted me pointing out the inconsistencies in someone else's argument to highlight my personal inexperience with the mod, but meh, I'll answer anyways. It doesn't take a genius to realise that adding more military spawns near the player spawn areas will just result in people getting tooled up like the universal soldier even quicker (because the current 30min wait is tooo long) and mean that personal loss is diminished in return for faster pew pew. Such a buff to the pvp aspects is almost certainly coming from someone that just wants to pvp and has no interest in the other survival aspects of this game; a survival, horror, sandbox mmo. It's like giving new players a capital ship (and flying prereqs) from the moment they start and every time they die in Eve. From what I hear of the mod it became just another pvp game where server owners spawned everyone in with the same milspec gear. If people want this standalone to be like that, then it will be just another pvp game...albeit a really slow and boring one. Also they may as well delete 90% of the playing area and just have a long coastline with teams spawning at each end (with their full milspec gear). Anyway, I'm having lots of fun playing as a medic in my current life - managed to get O- blood so been helping randoms out with my own blood in between having to eat and drink a ton to resupply myself and only had to kill one person that tried to take me out so far.

I Combat Logged :( Burn Me At The Stake, With Taters
floj replied to King of kong's topic in General Discussion
Lame and you shouldn't log off in a building in the first place - eventually you'll log in with hostiles around the area, it's just a matter of time/probability... ...it's also just a matter of time/probability in the wilderness, but the odds are better. -
Bad idea: Use your freshspawn character to go to risky areas for loot - send him to your tooled up character to offload - repeat. Your primary character never has to go to an airbase and can still be fully geared up with zero risk... Won't separate hives enable you to have multiple, non-interactable characters though? Different character on each hive.

Accuracy with a one handed pistol should definitely be affected by WHAT's being held in the other hand - a torch should have minimal impact (Would you still be more accurate using both hands directly?) But holding anything bulky/weighty or opened should definitely be detrimental... imagine if those target shooters were trying not to spill a can of opened beans with their other hand. Torch in daylight? .oO

Easiest way is to circle strafe them in first person. Just hold a or d whilst moving your mouse and you can run round them without taking any damage and rain blows onto them. As soon as they get knocked down, run round to their head and pummel them as they get up and you can normally get another instant knockdown even with fists. Takes a while BUT: Killing the zeds in the area makes you safer to loot the houses nearby Firstly because the zeds won't come through the wall and hurt you and secondly because there won't be loud zeds drawing attention to bandits in the area whilst they chase you. Most times I hear other survivors coming because they just try and sprint around with a trail of zeds, gives you plenty of time to find a safe location to observe from. Alternatively, try and draw the zeds out of town in the direction you arrived from and loop back round, then they can act as NPC lookouts for anyone following you.

I dont think you did read my post...just the bits you wanted to. Please stop responding to me, I refuse to discuss things with idiots because they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

From EU you should get a ping of 100-200 in the US depending on where you and the server both are (and vice versa) - though you might end up in a variety of other places with similar figures (draw a circle round your hometown)

Sun position is determined on a per server basis. I've been in some where it's just fractionally south, almost directly overhead. Others where it's been more to the East or West and lower in the sky. Really wish I'd favourited that server which was perma-dusk, that was a nice change :)

I've also had more rubberbanding today than I'd had previously... server patch applied or something maybe?

Obviously you fail the comprehension test for not reading the full thread or even the full post. I'm not anti pvp. Im not denying pvp. Im saying the game shouldn't be balanced so that people pretty much spawn with a gun so they can pvp immediately. This actually agrees with part of your argument in that loss should be meaningful, not a loss for something that took 10minutes to find. Try reading the whole thread next time before mounting up on your high horse. I'll break it down into digestible chunks for your limited abilities: - The title is changes to the East Coast...you know, the one which people spawn on. - The OP requests more military items there. - This would make losing weapons VERY insignificant. - And would kill off your wonderful adrenaline buzz. Oh and I pvp in this game, but only if the other person aggresses me first - laughably even being the one that shoots second I haven't died from an encounter yet, think I'm on about 10-0 across various respawns from glitching out. Read into that what you will... TLDR: You're an idiot.

Teamspeak and mumble are pretty even... personally I prefer the admin control and setup that's possible on mumble over the more limited setup on TS...but each to their own I guess. Also mumble's open source so you can host it anywhere you like for free whereas you usually have to pay for TS

Most players in the sandbox are this: without realising the irony.

So I come out a school, pistol and bat on me and I see a guy with an axe. I holster my pistol, bring out my bat and we circle each other from about 10m apart. All of a sudden I'm bleeding and he's jumped to my position from about 5 seconds ago - still about 10m away from me but to my left instead of in front. I holster my bat and sprint around some buildings til I see him run off in the wrong direction (so much faster running without a weapon out) - then bandaged up and log out to post this... I guess my character froze up on his screen and he ran over to have a chop whilst I was waiting for him to move in so that I could dodge and swing back at him. As it was he got a free hit and I never even saw him within reach. I doubt very much it's a net issue on my end since I play twitch shooters and don't have bad jitter at all inspite os low bandwidth. Neither of us were using inventories afaik although he did have a bp on, so potentially he had containers in there...but nm.. just massive desync which made me chuckle.

I want to find what his other post is like, cuz the responses in this thread made me chuckle :)

Looking to pick up a new PC, suggested specs to handle both DayZ SA and other High-End games?
floj replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
AFAIK it's not optimised for multithreading yet, so Intels are better than AMD because they have a better performance per core. I'm running a rig with i5-4670k and GTX 760 at base clock speeds and it can get a pretty stable 30+fps with everything turned up to max-shininess. On minimum I'm getting anything from 60-130 :) Depending on what your current setup is, you should be able to get those parts and maybe a new mobo (if needed, else get and SSD) for your budget and fit them into your existing hardware. -
Have you had another person check whilst stood near you? I was stood right next to this guy as he shot 2 zeds and heard absolutely no gun fire at all. Might be a difference in sound file usage depending on whether you're the one using it or not...or maybe our server just glitched
