  3. Kinda funny logic, but the last thing you'd want to do whilst hunted is to face an immobile object and restrict your view by pissing on a tree. Far better to back up against one and keep your vision open and piss into thin air (if anyone sees your weiner, the size of it is the least of your problems)

  5. OK, so better sound design...jeez, didnt' take a 200 word rant to say that - then you'll play 1PP? EDIT: If you want gamey elements like the UAV, just tick the gamey elements box...no biggie
  6. Simple answer will be once we get hit with a decent amount of zombies and a decent zombie AI. Couple that with low ammo reserves and you have a solution. Fire a gun and you attract the horde, maybe more and more respawning in the treeline and coming down to investigate for every shot fired - make it too many and too difficult to melee and loop around by sprinting and see how many people hang around Balota firing off Mosins and unsuppressed M4's
  7. I threw an option out there for just more mindless obscuring of views...same issue with backpacks when a player is looking behind themselves. It's not a good option though so I'm still researching other 3PP games to see how such things might have been implemented in the past :) I hope it's a stopgap until 3PP can be fixed so that one perspective doesn't have an advantage over the other. Separate servers is *really* all that's needed here, but without separate hives players could potentially go to the easier playmode and stack up on gear before coming into their normal ones...regarding easier playmodes, at the moment, the 'hardcore' 1PP servers are easier because there's less chance of hidden pvpers using wallglitches to hunt you without any chance of counter-observation. Once zombie AI and ability is improved, then the pve aspects should turn the 1PP servers into the tougher arena for survival.
  8. I was just wondering...of the people requesting hardcore realism...how many are then gonna play on easy mode with the invisible UAV over their shoulder? Cuz I certainly don't see 50% of the playerbase in the 1PP servers.
  9. Yeah but if the devs are accurately implementing a day/night cycle, it kinda hints they might intend for players to experience the full cycle... This is why 24hr (or any factor of) and fixed time servers are bad on the public hive - it results in players having the same time of day each time they log in. It's also why I don't think servers on public hive should be allowed to choose their own timezone, because then players can server hop to avoid the more difficult times of day (if they really hate it they can play on a private hive until the sun rises on the public hive again). OFC this is all to be considered once night-time is actually playable in some form without gamma hax.
  10. This or use the wiki http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Chernarus#Towns_and_Cities to check spellings without reading a map at all. I don't know the full alphabet, but I can more or less guess what most towns are now since a few letters are the same: a e o K M T ...doesn't help you at all with a few places, but if you know vaguely where you are on the map then you can use the number of letters and one/two words to differentiate. I'm currently trying to work on remembering that Б=B, B=V, b=y, y=u, C=S, H=N, 3=Z... but yeah, that's confusing as fuck for me specially the 3 B's
  11. Because we wanted them until they fix 3PP. Potentially they might never fix 3PP, so we'll play on separate servers and hives. Not really a solution, just a compromise which will work for the alpha... but will mean more work when they come to balance the game...as I must have said 99 times already. We're discussing possible fixes for the broken mechanic in 3PP so that ALL the playerbase experiences the game as the devs intend.

  13. But the smaller profile of the normal civvy one makes it easier to see behind you if you're thinking in realism terms...or I guess you can just play in 3PP EZmode and ignore that aspect. For me I think balance should be attained at a PVE level. Zombies vs you. It should be difficult but not impossible to raid the large towns, it should probably require a group or incredible stealth skills to do safely. You should be able to make it from one town to another without having to drink 10x canteens of water or eat a whole backpack of beans but crossing the whole map, you'll need to restock somewhat. You shouldn't be able to fill your backpack with goodies from a 5minute jaunt through town, but also you shouldn't have to spend hours finding a can of beans and nothing to open it with. Balanced.

  16. sigh...if you can't be bothered to read anything in the thread (even just the OP would have been a good start), please don't bother commenting in forums ever again. Where's that remove beans button? EDIT: Ditto for Mopp - it affects game balancing later on in the development process and how players experience the devs intentions for a game. Please read the thread. Completely agree.
  17. The other alternative I've been throwing around in my head is a completely nerfed 3PP view... only have your own player model and terrain models visible on it. Would be useful even for us 1PP players - Am I completely in cover? Could be used for travelling unsafely. Helmet/shoulder cam ala Gears of War/Res Evil would work well also. Would still offer a slight advantage and you'd notice all the 3PP players would only ever go anticlockwise around buildings, but it's an option. Also I was trying to research 3PP competitive games and I finally found one but I don't think the people wishing for omnivision will be happy with me for doing so. World of Tanks uses 3PP for positioning yourself in cover but also has huge amounts of server resources (30%) dedicated to visibility mechanics to prevent exploitation of the viewpoint. http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Battle_Mechanics#Visibility

    Ooh this had completely slipped under my radar - Trailer has the right mix of zombie/human interaction I'd expect in a zombie apocalypse and is edited really nicely (again - their video dude is awesome) :) But yeah, gameplay is Dead Island meets Brink with waaaay too much HUD and consolified 'press x' and 'XP' for my liking, might give it a go since at least they're trying something different, wouldn't buy it til it's discounted tho. I like the number and danger of the zombies though...here's hoping they manage that in Cherno EDIT: Wait, I watched the wrong trailer it seems... I saw the E3 one with a guy doing parkour, not the creepy one with a little girl from xmas.

Game has zero hacks -> Hacker makes Hack A -> Antihack deployed against Hack A -> Hacker makes Hack B which finds a new security loophole in Antihack A -> Antihack B deployed -> Hacker makes Hack C which exploits a new security loophole in Antihack B -> .... see where I'm going with this? EDIT: It can be as simple as changing small parts of the hack to make them undetectable to the original antihack, it doesn't necessarily require the whole thing to be rewritten. AND I have heard rumours of similar situations of antihack devs leaking information/developing hacks themselves as a side income. I guess it depends on your cynicism levels and how well paid the antihack devs are - from having a vague interest in it and reading some hax0r forums, it seems that they're just a community that enjoys finding loopholes in software and making money from doing so :)

    Whilst running around as a fresh spawn any top clothing layers I find that I'm not going to wear I add to my bandage stash until it's maxed out (for a single slot) at 6 rags.
