Who Are You? Or "How to make DayZ not all about KOS in a few not so easy steps".
Bakercompany86 replied to semipr0's topic in General Discussion
Your first two paragraphs on mental health are fine, and I wouldn't mind them implemented. Although it may be too complicated for this game, again I'm not opposed. This paragraph however, just says "Punish the bandits, reward the heros." Pure and simple. And I'm against that by all means necessary. -

Bingo. I wish everyone would stop trying to punish bandits in some way. If you want to "punish" bandits, you're going to have to be more clever than some sort of "godsight" granted by the game, or forcing them to go insane for playing their way. It's ridiculous. -
No way. By no means should we try to identify bandits. If you want to ID a bandit, get the drop on him and force him to submit. Cuff him, and go through his inventory. Is he carrying rotten food? Handcuffs? Anything that would make you suspect he's a bandit? Even after all that, it's still a guess. My buddy downed a guy that killed me, and he had 3 pairs of handcuffs in his pack. We assumed he was a bandit. But dead men can't talk, so at best it's just an assumption. There should be no other way to identify a bandit, unless you witness him killing someone on sight. Anything else is completely against what this game is supposed to me, in my opinion.

The dual core would run it, albeit poorly. Your GPU is not sufficient I do not believe.

Would love to see this implemented. Great idea!

What does meeting another player in game mean to you?

Increased heart rate immediately. Definitely get a little jumpy. If they're holding a firearm, generally stay hidden and watch them. If not, then I'll get the drop on them and initiate contact. Always a dice roll, always interesting :) -

This is exactly my thoughts. While I myself do not kill on sight, it definitely adds a high level of excitement and tension to the game for me. And I wouldn't change it at all. -
I don't like what current state of player interaction has turned into

I've actually had more forced-roleplay encounters than I've had experiences like the OP mentioned. Actually I've only had one encounter similar to the OPs. Otherwise I've always talked to players, and 6 out of 7 of my most recent encounters were awesome, and ended up in everyone leaving in peace after a cool encounter. That one out of 7 I was shot in the face, and then my buddy blew away the bandit with a .357. Worth it :) -
It just irks me when people say we need a way to identify bandits. No we don't. Not even a little bit. That would take away one of the largest aspects of this game. Putting some sort of godmarker on bandits is ridiculous. Deception is a large part of this game also. So if someone wants to trick you, they would be most likely unable due to their "Godmark". It's just a stupid idea. Learn to survive better. Going after military areas is always going to be risky. Period. It's risk vs reward. Trying to artificially brand bandits in any way goes against what I believe is the core principle of this game.

And how would you suggest the game identify bandits? Other than they're pointing a gun at you.

Would love a compass necklace that is tied to a hotkey. Great ideas. Love it.

Keep in mind we will most likely see firearm spawns balanced as the game nears release. You see a lot of weapons now because they want them tested, and the bugs reported. That's why we just saw a reduction by 50% in M4 spawns, yet you can find 3 .357 Magnums in the same location. Next will be a shotgun or shotguns. You'll see the .357 spawns taper off, and you'll find a shotgun in every closet. I guarantee it's for testing purposes. And they'll most likely greatly reduce the weapon spawns as time goes on.

I understand your concern. However we have probably seen less than 25% of the games features implemented. I mean in the future we're even looking at having Cannibalism in the game. We have literally no idea what direction Rocket is going to take this in. But honestly if it stayed in it's current status as far as character development I'd be happy. It's not just my mentality within the game that makes it my story. The immersion of this game is also what does it for me. -
Two days ago? I imagine with each new firearm implementation we'll see it spawn in vast majority for a while for testing purposes. The more people using them, the more bugs are found.

I truthfully have faith and belief that when Zombies are implemented to their fullest, the KoS ratio will drop drastically. Zombie AI tweaks, increase in number (drastically) and the implementation of hordes are all planned. Right now there is no incentive to not fire off a shot from your Mosin on the hills overlooking the Balota airfield. Make it so 10-20 Zombies come chasing you at full speed, and you'll think twice. -

This is a very well written and well thought out post. Thank you for sharing. I do however disagree with the majority of it. Your ideas are well thought out, but personally I don't want to see any kind of "mental health" mechanic in the game. Every time I read one of those it's just another idea of how to punish people who kill on sight. This one seems to be just that only a little more fancy. I really don't want anything like this in the game at all. Someone mentioned before about progressive beard growing or something like that as far as character progression. The problem is most people cover their faces with gas masks eventually. I'm still not opposed to the idea however. I do want a grizzly beard on my character. I also don't really want to see any sort of in-game benefit for surviving longer. It's not a horrible idea at all, but I think it's actually going to encourage killing on sight. The longer I survive, the more powerful I become. So they'll just eliminate any threats upon sight. But this could work in the game in theory. I also don't want to see any sort of skill development in the game. As mentioned about the portable gas stove and such. I like the current "find it and use it" system. While I agree, hardly anyone can field strip an M4 like every character in this game can. At best I think we should require a wrench/screwdriver/pliers in order to add/remove mods from an M4 or any weapon. Outside of that, No skill development for me please. -
I'm okay with allowing people to eventually mod the game. As long as there are dedicated servers to vanilla DayZ and they are clearly marked.
-
The only system we need to punish people who KoS is the business end of your rifle....

There is actually an entire group of people dedicated to just this. You probably missed their post, it's stickied on this forum. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160262-need-medical-assistance-in-dayz-sa-find-your-medic-here/ Ask the medics for assistance and they will come save the day :)

I was killed on sight, then my next character reset.
Bakercompany86 posted a topic in General Discussion
It's been an interesting past 24 hours in DayZ for me. Starting with last night. I met up with my starving-to-death buddy just outside of the Power Plant. After we got him all fixed up and I passed him his new shiny .357 Magnum I had been saving him, we started looting the nearby area. We were both pretty well geared after I spared him some of my stuff to balance us out. I had been alive for almost a week on this character. She was pretty well stocked up, with a Scoped Mosin and a .45 and 3 mags plus plenty of extra ammo. As we make our way through the city, we end up looting a grocery store followed by the nearby hospital. During our hospital looting, I noticed a guy out of the corner of my eye. At first I dismissed it as my friend in my peripheral vision. That was a mistake, as when I turned a bit more towards him I noticed he was wearing a gas mask (my friend was not). I raised my .45 just a bit too late, he ended me with his M4. The great part of this portion of the story, is from my blackened "You are dead" screen, I hear the telltale *BOOM* twice, as my friends .357 Magnum echos through the night. Being that this person killed me on sight and also had 3 pairs of handcuffs on him, we assumed that my buddy had just put down a bandit. A very well geared one at that. Naturally with my body and the bandits to loot, my buddy got away with optimal gear and supplies. The next day (this morning) I loaded up my freshly shored character and began to work towards success again. Within a very short timeframe thanks to some really lucky finds, I was relatively well geared within a couple hours. In the power plant alone I found a .45, two magazines for it, a medkit, an assault vest, and some cargo pants. Nearby I fleshed out my gear with a fire axe and a motorcycle helmet. I moved through a couple more towns headed NW, finding a town that contained a military camp. There I lucked into an M4 and 2 10 round mags, in addition to a mountain backpack and a canteen. I was feeling great. I had waxed a guy earlier with the .45 for getting too close with a shovel (I did give him several verbal warnings). This new character had come along quickly and I was ready to rejoin my friend later and carry on. The next time I logged into the game this afternoon today, my character was reset...back on the shore with nothing but a flashlight. Bummer right? But you know what? Why not? Because I'm fully aware this is an alpha. I'm also aware we're really here to test the game and find bugs to report to the devs. Moral of this story? Regardless of the reason you lost your character, be it the ladder bug, a kill on sight, or a restart, try not to get too mad. We're really just testers, not even players right now. That and personally, this is the game I've been waiting a very long time for. Practically my entire life I've wanted a game like DayZ SA. I'm happy it's here even as an early access alpha. And I'm certainly going to try my best to help the devs put a fine layer of polish on the game and help us all have an amazing experience down the road.- 10 replies

There was hours in between each logout. Doubtful my character would have been restored. When I died and respawned the night before, I logged out for the evening. Spent hours building the new character up, logged out to do some mudding/sanding/painting in one of our rooms. That was at least 4-5 hours before logging back in. And when I did, my character was reset. -

Man if you call my post trolling, I'd hate to see what you say about actual trolls. This post was meant to be uplifting and encouraging. As well as sharing a pretty cool bandit slaying story. -
My problems with the new patch (Spawns), suggestions for the next
Bakercompany86 replied to thebalfrog's topic in General Discussion
The spawn system is fine, seriously. As mentioned, Balota is the LAST place you should try to get gear from. It's a murder pit. Go north. There is plenty of loot up there. Seriously folks. Unless your problem with the game involves a bug, it's not really that important now. Focus on finding bugs and reporting them. This is an early access alpha and the harder we work now to find all the bugs, they happier we'll be a year from now. I'm confused as to why people are complaining about their random spawns in a hardcore survival game anyway. -
It's almost a guarantee at any military outpost. I've even found one in the Electric Plant. They're very common. Probably to test it out, then they'll back off the spawn a bit I bet.
