are people trying to make the SA to friendly?

That's just the thing. Worrying about bandits and murderers *is* survival. Besides, they always congregate in one area. The only time I've been shot at without questions outside of the south coast was in NWAF. And those two guys paid heavily for that mistake. But the dozen or so other encounters were intense, awesome, and peaceful in the end.
  2. I'm not sure *how* they're going to implement them. But vehicles are definitely planned. Not all vehicles are repairable mind you. Some will be too far gone to ever operate again (like the frame being bent into the wheelwell). However we should still be able to salvage parts off these vehicles. But make no mistake, we will have vehicles at some point. Most will probably be procured in the manner you mentioned (finding a derelict vehicle and repairing it).

How low can someone get (Ghosters)

That would absolutely kill the ghosters ability to ghost. I support this. If you're still in the same spot after 10-15 minutes, you're DayZing wrong.

are people trying to make the SA to friendly?

I mean, I'm a fairly new player to DayZ. Didn't play the mod, just did research on it and decided to wait for the standalone. I was even a week late getting the standalone. But I've learned how to survive, and identify those who will most likely kill you on sight. I've actually had more peaceful encounters (although very tense at first) than I have ran into murderers. But I also stay away from Balota/Cherno/Elektro. It's a known murder pit. The last time a buddy and I were looting through Cherno, I ended up shot (and the bandit ate .357, really glad I saved that pistol for my friend). I think the balance is already here. The good guys (like me) are out there. And the bandits are also :) Become a better survivor and none of this is a problem to figure out.

Am I alone in the fact that worrying about players actions and reactions is what makes this game intense for me? PvE servers would destroy the nature of this game, and what makes it good in my opinion. Sure, dying and losing a full kit because you were killed by someone on sight sucks a little. But becoming a better survivor is empowering.
  6. 1. Yes please, on both counts. 2. Nah. I don't really think altered Zombies of any type fit this game. This is your more traditional outbreak (think World War Z). Although they are going to implement hordes, and that's something to think about. 3. Planned :) 4. More zombies are planned for sure. Not by lowering their render quality, but by optimizing the game. So we'll hopefully have the best of both worlds. 5. Definitely has been suggested before. And I support the idea. Healthy players can sprint infinitely, which is very unrealistic. I would like to see this implemented. 6. No way. This isn't Left 4 Dead. Definitely goes against what this game is designed to be. Although I do think dead players killed by zombies should rise and attack on their own :)

Players can throw all their "nerf pvp" ideas they want at Rocket, but he'll have none of it. He wants this game to be as punishing as it is. And he already said this game isn't for everyone. This game is what really defines a "hardcore" game. You will never be able to alter player behavior in this game. They will do as they do. And nobody should try to discourage that, it's what makes this game unique.

Would does "survivor" means at front page of website?

That's expected with this game. People either receive information from a friend about how great it is, and jump into it with little to no research. Thus someone dies and loses a few days worth of progression, not knowing about DayZ's permadeath. Quickly realizing it's not their cup of tea, they quit. And then there are those of us who play this game because of how harsh it is :)

    Good ol' running up hills

    Seems realistic to me...

Could someone from the Dayz team please answer me this?

So meanwhile the players who have private hives are fine and the rest of us are screwed. -or- We can let the Devs do what they think is best and implement their own DDoS protection that helps everyone. It only takes placing the servers behind a load balancer with DDoS protection (like a BigIP or A10). Just be patient.

    Describe your first kill

After a long trek all the way from the NWAF to the east coast in search of a friend, I ran into a small town right by the water. Hungry, I decided to search the houses for loot. Upon finding a can of beans, I ran outside of the home to find a cozy spot to perch and take a few bites. I popped open my can of beans and began to scarf it down in a starving frenzy. Just then, I heard a scream. Not a human scream that would indicate that someone was in trouble, but the gurgling scream of a Zed. Just then, two zombies burst through the brush and began to assault me. I pulled my trusty axe from it's resting place and began to go to work like a lumberjack. I chopped one, followed by the other. As the second zed fell, I noticed that I was being punched in the back of my head. I turned to see a live human, assaulting me. Delivering blow by blow attempting to score the knock out. Unslinging my M4, he quickly realized the error of his ways and took off running. He was no match for my accuracy however, and I gunned him down. Pretty lame for a first kill, but I couldn't let that action go unpunished. I wish I had a more glorious story to share -_-

Shall I bring my swords, or my dueling pistols :)

    VOIP chat glitch

Definitely happened to me once. I was in the middle of a field, and I very much heard one guy talking to another guy. But there was nobody in sight.
  14. Bakercompany86

I used to be nice, now I just KOS

One of the very first nice guys I encountered gave me an FNX with a 15 round mag in it. I didn't even try to shoot him, just thanked him and moved on. Anyone who doesn't shoot me on sight and initiates communication has a 99% chance of surviving the encounter. If someone gets the drop on me with a gun pointed, I'll most likely open fire if they don't immediately say something by the time I see them. Better to be safe than dead.
  15. Bakercompany86

    The KOS conundrum, problem/solution.

I'm the nicest guy in the world, especially on DayZ. If I get the drop on you, I'll give you a chance to surrender before offering you aid/supplies. If you don't comply, or break out a weapon, you're going to die. Or if I suspect you're a hostile, sorry that's just how the cookie crumbles :D

    Discourage career bandits

Not everyone is a KoS murderer. I for one, survive as long as possible and try to get in the position to help others. Sometimes this means getting the drop on them with a weapon pulled, and forcing them to their knees with their hands on their heads. But then you can safely offer them food/drink/healing. Just gotta play smart.

    Discourage career bandits

I think any way of identifying bandits in this game is lame. The only method should be through stereotype (just like real life). - Is he well geared? - Does he have a firearm? - Is he pointing it at you? These should be your clues. Not some dumbass skin or a giant red arrow over their head saying "This guy wants to kill you." Anything of that nature will completely strip the realism from this game. Right now I'm in full camo, with a ballistic helmet, gas mask, aviators, and I walk through towns with my FNX .45 at ready. By all means you would think I was a murdering bandit. But I'm the polar opposite. As far as what players perceive me as, is left entirely up to them. And I like it that way. I don't want some giant blue arrow over my head saying "This guy is nice, he gives out food and medical supplies." I want players to have to figure that out on their own, or be brave and initiate contact with me. If I get a bullet to the skull because someone assumed I was a hostile, then that's my problem to deal with only. As it should be.
  20. I'll take "thoughtful beans" any day :)
  21. Bakercompany86

What are your thoughts on the FNX 45?

I love it. I can hit people reliably around 20-30m or so. Great sidearm for those carrying a Mosin. Seems very accurate (as far as realism) for a semi-auto .45 ACP. Being that I haven't found a rifle on this character, I currently have an FNX with 5 mags and 98 spare rounds. Definitely my go-to sidearm at the moment until they put in either a Glock G22 or maybe an M1911A1. But only because I own those two :)

    Can't play DayZ anymore

For the past 48 hours the game has played better for me than ever. Smooth as can be, zero lag or rubberbanding. Framerates are top notch. (I think some framerate issues are tied to a memory leak). As far as falling through floors, make sure you go prone and try to crawl out of every side of the building. Happened to a buddy of mine and myself at the same time. We found a spot we could get out of crawling prone.
  23. I think the *only* concession we could possibly give new players is a command tutorial. What button does what. Even that is unnecessary though, as you can just go to the control settings and see for yourself (does any PC gamer not know how to do this?). Outside of that, this game doesn't need to get any easier. As I mentioned on page 1, I'm a totally new DayZ player. I feel like I have it down. I'm creeping around looting and killing with the best of them. If you're really struggling and need to demystify the game a bit, there are two things you need. The first is the DayZdb map. No player should be without it. It doesn't cheat for you, as you may not have any clue of your sense of direction without a compass anyway (and the fact that the sun is positioned wrong). http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus And the second, if you are having trouble understanding how your stomach/hydration/energy/blood/health work, you need to watch Merino's brilliantly made video explaining how the system works. After watching it you'll have zero questions as to how you can regenerate blood and health. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVGxHTXbaoo Otherwise the game is perfect (in concept, obviously we have alpha flaws).

    Winter Survival: The Northern Expedition

Very cool idea :) I support this. Giving much more use to other items found in the game (like the gas stove). I do think that cold weather should play a huge part in the game, seeing as how it's obviously cold as hell even near the coast. So venturing up in the map and altitude would certainly bring the biting cold that could kill a man. This also gives those players who try to build the perfect inventory a challenge other than being shot at in Balota. So instead of carrying 10 M4 Magazines, you might actually want to make room for water purification tabs, a stove, extra gas, food, etc. Love it! Have some :beans:

    Snow!!!!

I finally was on a server the other day in which it was raining. Very cool experience! I would love snow! Makes perfect sense seeing as how it's obviously very cold. I'd also like to see hypothermia and actual cold mechanics introduced (which is what I think that other thread talks about, going to read it now). Gives more use for portable gas stoves and lanterns, as well as crafting fires and having to find actual clothing like hoodies.
