Can opener.... On another note, are there any form of shotguns in the game yet? From the page I found, the answer is no. And since I end up carting around 50 shotgun shells, I'd like to know for sure so I can ignore them for the time being. I know the .357 isn't in the loot tables yet (thus, not in game). Although I believe the item file exists.

Night time In Dayz SA and your thoughts?
Bakercompany86 replied to BlackDalia's topic in General Discussion
I love night, with only a few caveats. -Flashlight light isn't restricted by walls some times. Which means players 100's of yards away will be able to see your beam through a house even if you're pointing it at a wall and seemingly not shining it through a window. Obviously this needs to be corrected. -More batteries! I have found ONE battery in over a week of exploration. Batteries are fairly common and since they're only good for flashlights at the moment, I don't see why they're so rare. This character I'm running now actually didn't spawn with a flashlight or battery for some reason. Later on I actually found someones flashlight and battery on the ground. I used it one night. And when I logged on next, it was gone from my inventory.... The Night Gods do not wish for me to have lights. -Moonlight. If the moon is obstructed by clouds, then by all means that area should be pitch black until the clouds move. That also adds a strong element of stealth for those who want to dart between the shadows. But otherwise there is no moonlight, and the world is pitch black. -Lighters/matches/lanterns etc. I have found a lantern, never got to use it though. And I found matches, still have them. Haven't tested these as a light source. I imagine they're only for starting fires. Are campfires enabled if you have sticks/firewood/matches? That would be cool. Although a campfire would be a deathtrap I would imagine. Also, night time lasts FOREVER. Literally 12 hours I think I read. Would be neat to see a much shorter day/night cycle (maybe 2 to 3 hours a piece?) That way you can experience both within your timezone not having to change servers. At least make it an option for the server, maybe. -
How butthurt do you get when you die in Dayz? :)

The more stuff I die with, the more I stick to the forest on the next character. I'm turning into a hermit.... -
How to open / view the map?

Equip it like you would a weapon or can of food to eat it, and use it. -
Server hopping is killing the game
Bakercompany86 replied to hypergolem's topic in General Discussion
They've already stated a desire to remedy this, and a plan. It's coming :) Have faith in these guys, they're doing a great job. -
This is a great idea, provided they fix the Zombie AI (and I'm sure they will). But I would imagine, realistically, that military areas would be the most heavily infected areas as people would flock there naturally. With more Zombies there (and I know the devs said, more zombies are coming) it gives more of a challenge to players who are just camping out for more ammo. Kinda hard to troll noobs when you're fighting off 10 undead. Plus it gives a noob a chance to run in and maybe score a kill, who knows. Great idea though. Have some beans.

Super simple fix to all logging related cheating issues
Bakercompany86 replied to Frell's topic in General Discussion
A solid idea. This would help two problems. One is server hoppers. Two is the "logout so I don't die" people. While yeah it would suck to get cornered and indefinitely killed, thats what the game is about really. It sucks, but that's why we play DayZ. You have to make choices based on risk vs reward. Never let your guard down :) -
lolAlpha Anyway. Definitely a no to the safe zones. DayZ is unique for this very reason. Your "safe zone" is in the forest. Hell, I get excited when I enter a town and the doors are still shut on houses. When I find them open...I start to worry a little. Vehicles are planned. Much more is planned. I'm having a blast, even when I die. The only issues I have are already planned to be addressed by the devs (like server hopping). Other than obvious bug fixes and polish, this game is shaping up to be freaking amazing. A TRUE hardcore survival game.

Not a bad idea. Although I'd rather keep all loot physical and observable. Just make every cabinet/door/cupboard openable with potential loot spawns and I'm happy.

Why is the world of dayz so static ?
Bakercompany86 replied to pogosphere's topic in General Discussion
I don't think destructible environments in this game would be appropriate. Maybe high powered rifles shooting through wood doors, fine. Or even the occasionally boarded up door that requires a crowbar or axe to get through for more potential loot. But outside of that, nothing in this world should be destructible. And why would you want it to? Way too much stress to handle that kind of stuff with this draw distance and map size. -
Something I wanted to say (positive Alpha thoughts)
Bakercompany86 replied to Nipson's topic in General Discussion
Glad I'm not alone. I know this is an alpha, and I wanted it to help polish and fix a game that I plan on enjoying for a very long time. Having said that, this game is still a lot of fun. Bugs and all. I can't wait to see each and every patch they release as it fixes portions of the game and adds more eventually. I'm very happy with this alpha. -
Sounds are definitely bugged in addition to placeholders. When you're running through an open field, and you keep hearing random zombie noises....I think it's your character breathing or moving and those sounds being replaced by zombie clips. Talk about freak you out!

Balota isn't the problem. The spawns aren't the problem either. Especially considering how many M4's and .45's you find with ZERO ammo what so ever. In my couple dozen or so trips into the Balota airfield, I've found quite a few M4's and .45's, but only one time did I find 5.56 (20 rnds). And even then, I didn't find a magazine, which means single chambering bullets (and that sucks, but better than nothing). The REAL problem is server hoppers. At least 4-5 times I've run in there, only to have an armed bandit materialize right before my eyes. Thankfully this is to their disadvantage as your weapon is readied and theirs is not. But still, the server hoppers is the problem. Otherwise the Balota airfield makes for interesting gameplay early on, assuming you spawn anywhere near it. Although in the future I'd like to see it's spawns reduced from military grade to maybe civilian grade firearms. Instead of a full auto M4, why not a revolver, or double barreled shotgun? Doesn't make sense with the military theme there, but would drastically help game balance. Then you must make the trek to the military base or northern airfield for your end-game stuff. I also imagine in the future, the airfield won't be the only place you find firearms. There will probably be small random chances to find them out in towns etc (like in the mod). I can't wait to see what they have planned to fix the server hoppers.
