There is no one reason why people will kill you on sight. Everyone has a different reason. Whether it's shoot you before you shoot me, or I'm just a douchebag that likes to ruin peoples day, in the end you're dead and it doesn't matter. Everyone will play this game the way they want to. That's the cool thing about it. No one person will play the same as the next with one exception, trying to survive. Everyone gets their kicks in different ways. I take risks to help some players, it depends on their attitude and honesty when I catch them with their pants down. Like this morning for example, I caught a guy in a military base and he was completely unarmed, looking for a weapon. When confronted he was very honest, stating that he had seen me and was searching for a weapon to kill me with but only because he assumed I was hostile. We both ended up walking out of that base alive and with a lot more than we had when we entered, and it was a rather pleasant experience. Yes I know, trusting anyone and letting your guard down is a huge risk. But that's how I get my kicks. In the end, he lived and ended up in a much better position than he was in originally. I walked out with a good conscience and a few goodies myself. Play your way :)

Chernarussian Outbreak Speculation.
Bakercompany86 replied to King of kong's topic in General Discussion
Awesome :) -
I'm extremely happy that the game is selling well. This means people are excited for the game, and that the development is being funded well. I have complete faith in these guys to patch the game and continue to push it towards excellence. Even in this stage, the game is so fun. They took a break for the holidays, which I wouldn't want them to miss out on time with their families. They'll be back at it soon enough.

I can understand game mechanic wise, why they are so rare. Guaranteeing you 100% of each can of food is powerful indeed. But yeah...full auto assault rifles are more common. Same goes with batteries. I have literally found ONE battery on a shelf, and for some reason my only option was to lick it.... Should definitely be more batteries around.

Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game
Bakercompany86 replied to jamoy1993's topic in General Discussion
Yeah but it's Russia. I don't know anyone from there, so I'm purely speaking from what I've seen and read. But there are many youtube videos that show Russian citizens with firearms. Plus the country to me always seemed kind of lawless and chaotic, but again I know nothing of the true nature of Russia. If this were Germany, I could understand not finding any firearms :) -
I was thinking of something like this earlier today. Not necessarily as a "pick pocketing" method. But in a group of friends, out in the woods. I'd like to see an option to open my pack to my squad. A key that will enable me to kneel down with my pack on the ground in front of me. And my friends can access it to take what they need. This of course is much less of a need when the ground loot disappearing problem is fixed. I also think there is an option to hold an item out in your hand for a player to take. That honestly is all we need (if I could figure out how to do it).

Petition: Wipe of Characters on Next Update.

When they fix duping and server hopping, I'd like to see a wipe for sure. Server hopping is obnoxious. -
Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game
Bakercompany86 replied to jamoy1993's topic in General Discussion
Agreed. I don't know about Russia, but just about everyone here in the south has some form of Rifle in their house. As to the comment above about "Sniper Rifles" they're really just "Rifles". They only become a Sniper Rifle in the hands of a trained Sniper. And if you walk into just about any firearm carrying store, you'll see that those types of rifles are by far the most abundant. Even Wal-Mart has a wide selection of them (in addition to hunting shotguns, and usually 1 or 2 semi-auto AR-15s/M4s). Having said that, I think it's perfectly acceptable to find semi-automatic AK-47s. If I had to wager, they are probably the most abundant "assault rifle" in the world. -

Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game
Bakercompany86 replied to jamoy1993's topic in General Discussion
I definitely support the "more civilian weapons" theory. I think the game would be much more balanced and entertaining if most people were limited to civilian weaponry. And it makes more sense even with the many military installations around. And by civilian, we can still find M4's. Just semi-auto versions as opposed to their full auto counterparts. And definitely yes on the hunting rifles. My family is much more gun oriented than most families (my father is a Gunsmith). But at any given time we own a great variety of weapons. In our prime we had: 3x M1 Garands 3x M14s 2x Remington 870s (one an express tactical, the other a standard with wood stock/grips) 3x WWII era Colt 1911's 2x Colt AR-15s chambered in 5.56 3x M1 Carbines 2x Cheap .22 pistols (damn things always jammed) 1x 9mm Browning Automatic 1x Glock G22 .40 cal Some odd .44 mag rifle with optics, couldn't tell you what it was. And also 9x (yes, at one point NINE) German K98 Mausers. Not to mention a WWII Japanese Officer Samurai Sword, and a variety of knives. Now we're gun lovers, so this is a bit extreme. But just about everyone I know owns some sort of firearm. So civilian weaponry should be much more plentiful than military grade. I'd love to see the full-auto M4's toned down a bit. EDIT: I'd have to give a healthy "No" to the Pancor Jackhammer. It was an experimental weapon that never took off. Finding one in the entire world would be very difficult, let alone this small area of Russia. There are other semi-auto shotguns you could implement, but any of them might be a *tad* over powered. Easily walk into a room and clear out 4 guys who were fully armed with M4s. I'm very okay with just having a standard double-barrel that is very common, followed by the 870 which is already planned, and maybe a Mossberg 500 since they are very common for hunting and home defense. As far as the mossberg/870 go, I sincerely hope we either see tactical variants or in the very least, upgrades such as a pistol grip tactical stock and foregrip/magazine extensions/tactical lights. Just like you find the alternative pieces to the M4. Being as the 870 is the highest selling shotgun in the world, I wouldn't see this as unrealistic. -
Awesome example vid. You even leave several pieces of food and cans of soda behind. People just need to learn that the southern coastal area sucks big time.

What exactly do ballistic helmets stop
Bakercompany86 replied to chasieboy317's topic in General Discussion
Seems like the ballistic helmets in game are pretty fair and realistic then. -
I love my mountain backpack. I play in 3rd person mostly so until they remove that option I'm very happy with my green mountain backpack. Although a camo version would be wonderful. I guess it's all down to preference. Also in regards to gamme/brightness "cheaters", I think a night with 0 light is unrealistic. Depending on the phase of the moon, night time is actually well lit in some situations. A full moon will illuminate an entire field with no problem. So being completely pitch black all the time is unrealistic. Plus, batteries are so damn rare you might not have a functioning flashlight (I didn't even spawn with one, damn it). Not to mention the broken flashlight mechanics where someone can see you from space basically. I knew there was someone in a military base I was creeping up on last night due to the fact that his flashlight was passing through walls and shining like a lighthouse on the coast...
-
Spawns are okay. Obviously there are buildings where the spawns haven't been set yet, as there are specific building types you'll find absolutely nothing every single time. However last night, I went through a northern town at night and found 6 cans of food, 4 cans of soda, and a canteen. Plus the location had a water spigot. So I was pretty happy. Also found 1 fresh kiwi (rarest in game item lol). The coasts are littered. New spawns and bandits aplenty. So you should try to find a suitable weapon and just enough food to survive the journey to a northern town, and get the hell out of there.

Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game
Bakercompany86 replied to jamoy1993's topic in General Discussion
I don't see a single problem with any of the weapons suggested. Except you say don't include a DMR, when an FN FAL is similar. 20 Rounds of 7.62 on a weapon that can support optics will be pretty much the same in game. Although I honestly would love at least one 20-round 7.62 weapon. I was thinking of the M14 honestly. Although there could most definitely be both, I have zero problem with that. This looks to be a relatively poor area of Russia judging by the houses. So finding the upper tier weapons would have to be extremely rare indeed. They wouldn't have to be limited to military bases. Who's to say that someone didn't find one, only to starve to death in a remote town somewhere? Just as long as the spawn rates are appropriate compared to the power of the weapon. Also the more ammunition types in the game, the better. I love the Glock, but with the other 9mm options in the game I'd much rather see a G22 .40 cal. Yet another different ammunition type. Plus over 70% of law enforcement in America carry the G22 (to my knowledge), so I'm sure the weapon would be abundant in a country much closer to Austria. But either way I'd be happy with any Glock in the game. I don't disagree with any of these weapon choices. As easy as it is to die in this game, nobody is safe regardless of weaponry. I support the semi-auto or bolt action choices more than the full auto. But i'm okay with a few full-auto options in the game. The only weapon I don't see fitting is the ACR. It's not a very well circulated weapon currently (to my knowledge) so finding one in a super poor area of Russia may not by very realistic. EDIT: I think to NOT include the AK-74/47 or AN-94 would be a crime. Being that Russia is their country of origin and the weapons are VERY abundant. Obviously the AN-94 should be super rare, but should definitely exist. -
There is no real good way to identify a friendly player opposed to a hostile one. Sometimes you just have to hope you have the upper hand so you have the first chance to not be a douchebag. If you see a guy in a building looting it unaware of your presence, you can attempt to communicate from outside where he can't see you. This way you can open the lines of communication without exposing yourself to immediate threat. Or like my interaction this morning: I was in the not-so-secret military base east of Pustoshka. While looting one of the two barracks, I noticed a guy in the barracks to my right. I crept up on him and cornered him, he had no melee weapon and an M4 without a magazine. So he was pretty harmless. I struck up a conversation with him. He was completely honest, stating that he was in a hurry to find a melee weapon or ammo to kill me, because naturally he assumed I was hostile. His honesty saved him, and I mentioned that I'm not a typical kill-on-sight type of guy. So after a short conversation, we finished looting the base together. I ended up giving him some ammo for his M4 (I'm using a Mossin anyway), plus a couple other goodies like my old splitting axe. I made out with a nice new Fire Axe, a full medkit, and some charcoal tabs. I offered him food and water, but he declined as he was well stocked. We said our goodbyes and parted ways. But honestly in this grim world, there is no way to tell. And even if we came up with some way to identify carebears over bandits, people would exploit that to be better bandits. So in actuality, you just have to hope or play it safe and avoid everyone until you have the upper hand and can negotiate on your terms.

How butthurt do you get when you die in Dayz? :)
Bakercompany86 replied to Jaygoon's topic in General Discussion
Butthurt isn't the correct word. Maybe a facepalm if I did something stupid. Like being in a hurry trying to meet up with a friend. Outside of that, I just remember what I did wrong, and what I could have done differently. -
So far I've met one really cool guy, a couple "back away slowly from each other", and the rest were completely hostile. Some gave me warning and at least told me to put my hands up. The rest shot me on sight. One guy even set up a clever ambush with a fireaxe and I had a fully loaded M4. Lucky him... The one cool guy was completely decked out, and I was a fresh spawn running through the woods. He actually gave me a .45 with a full magazine. That character became my longest lived character to date (and coincidentally the one who was ambushed by the axe guy). Whoever that guy was, you sir are awesome. I've ran into a couple unarmed but well geared players (backpacks, helmets, etc). I don't shoot these guys on sight. I told the one guy "it's cool, I'm just looking for food" and we went our separate ways. Pretty much everyone in a military base is guaranteed to be a douchebag on site. Honestly though, trust no one. My buddy spared a guy who had no weapon, and he could have easily chopped him up. But the guy actually ran around until he found a weapon, and killed my buddy. Pretty lame...but still part of what makes DayZ unique.

So I'm geared up and know how to be careful. What now?
Bakercompany86 replied to pakundo's topic in General Discussion
If I remember correctly, they stated that the endgame content of DayZ would incorporate underground bunkers and hideouts of some sort. Sounds good to me. -
Yeah Melee needs a lot of love. Especially hit detection. But I'm sure they know this, and I'm sure they're working on it as it's a massive part of the game. Especially when they fix zombie AI and increase their numbers.

How about a change in Day/nigth cycle ?
Bakercompany86 replied to vitorsa's topic in General Discussion
Nighttime would be fine if there were actual moonlight. As I said in another thread, if the moon is obstructed by clouds, then pitch black is appropriate until the clouds move. Otherwise the moon is quite bright and you can actually see very well at night with a full moon (or even a partial one). But being completely pitch black all the time is unrealistic. And yeah, the flashlight mechanics need fixed for sure, but I think that's obvious. -
I read that it's "in the game" as in the item file, but it's not yet added to the loot tables. On another note, has anyone found any form of shotgun? Tired of hoarding shells for a weapon I may never find...
-
Wow so I got lucky...I found a complete map.

So I'm geared up and know how to be careful. What now?
Bakercompany86 replied to pakundo's topic in General Discussion
You have 3 options. Continue to survive on your own, hunting for better and better gear and hoarding medical supplies. Even if you never use them, it's kinda fun to be a supply pinata for the lucky guy that bags you. Option 2, become a bandit. Hunt players. Experience PVP. Option 3, become a carebear. Protect new players, give them food, water, treat their wounds. You'll meet friends this way for sure. But you will also meet backstabbers.... Otherwise just try to survive as long as you can, master the map, and wait for them to fix/add more :) -
Issues that need Fixing (A Self-Priority List)
Bakercompany86 replied to Imper1um's topic in General Discussion
Some points I agree with while others I disagree, so I'll go one by one. Just my personal opinions in regards to your suggestions. Critical 1. I thought about this one. I personally wouldn't mind one other character slot just to have a "solo" character and a "group" character. That way if my buddies and I log off in the same spot, and I want to play more, I'm not completely abandoning them and we can just try to play together. To balance this, both characters should not be allowed to exist on the same server consecutively (the second character cannot join the last server you were on). The rest of the points I disagree on, as it breaks the hardcore nature of the game. Vehicles are planned also btw, give them time. That falls under the "This is Alpha" category. 2. Yes and no. Fixing the zombies and increasing their population in large areas will help. However, I really like the completely random open sandbox nature of this game. The only thing I would change as far as progression, is removing the military grade weapon spawns from the Balota airfield. Replace them with a "rare" civilian grade weapon spawn. This may be changed when more is added to the game, we'll see. 3. I think the starting values are fine. You start out a bit thirsty, but not terribly hungry. On no new starting character have I starved to death or died of thirst. So I think it's okay. 4. Kinda. I would love to know exactly how full I am when drinking from a water spicket. I mean in reality, when you stop to drink, you get some idea of how full you are when you're drinking. So maybe not a meter per say, but some other indicator of how full you're getting. More text descriptions would do. Otherwise the hunger indicators are acceptable. "I feel hungry" persists for a while, followed by "your stomach grumbles". And progressively worse from there. I understand it really. 5. This coincides with the needed zombie fixes. Both AI, and quantity. That way there is more penalty for players who want to blast you on site in the middle of a huge city. They might get you, but they'll attract a horde. Zombies within 100m of a gun blast should know exactly where to go to find you, and move quickly. Within 200m they should know what direction to head at least and maybe meander that way so escaping gankers run into more horde. High 6. Yeah most definitely. The ethereal zombies need to go. But all collision mechanics in game need fixing. I lump this into "it's alpha." 7. Agreed. And military bases should be covered in zeds. Towns out in the middle of no where could have one to no zombies, that would make sense. But the shore cities should be littered with them. 8. Kinda. When I drink and my thirst warning goes away, I get it. Consuming anti-biotics when you're not sick shouldn't make you sick....the worst it does is give you the squirts. So maybe increase your thirst slightly quicker for a bit, but definitely not sick. The rest of the stuff is really common sense. Except maybe morphine. 9. Agreed. I think they're working on this though to prevent server hoppers. It's annoying as hell to corner a guy who has no weapon and start beating him with a baseball bat only to have him log out....lame. (True story) 10. Yes on players, no on zombies. Easier to enforce with players. Not so much with zombies. Don't log off in towns if you want to avoid zombies. I *always* log off in the forest. Medium 11. Naw. I think it's fine. Yes you can do just about anything in game, but it's with a civilian assumption that you do these things. Shooting people depends on your own accuracy (pending lag of course). The rest you're doing based on an assumption. You don't have to be a doctor to inject morphine, but you might not know exactly what the effects will be... 12. Yeah. I think towns that have seen zero human activity should reset on their own in an hour or so. Meaning loot, zombies, and doors should be shut again. Welcome suggestions on this one. As towns with players constantly roaming through would never reset. So maybe a soft 2-hour reset for populated areas. Doors remain open, but zombies respawn, and loot respawns. 13. I personally want to see zombies as more of a threat, but able to be evaded. I should be able to crawl in a house with a zombie out in the streets in front, as long as i'm in "silent" mode. Of course zombie AI is broken atm. They will see you from literally 500 yards away and chase you, even if you're hiding in bushes. Other times you can run right in front of one and they won't chase you. So in general, Zombie AI needs fixing. But I think they know that. 14. Agreed. This is more of an important fix for me. It makes sense that someone who died from a zombie, would become a zombie, and could possibly have a can of tuna in their pocket they found earlier. And obviously player bodies should persist after death until they're completely looted or have been untouched for a time. I'm sure this is already an intended fix. Also items disappearing when you put them down needs to be remedied while we're talking about it. 15. Agreed 100%. Right clicking should show "eat completely" or "eat 25%" etc. But by all means if I choose to slam an entire can of spaghetti, it should take more time to sit and eat. Risk vs reward. Low 16. Yeah..."alpha". I'm sure they'll fix it. 17. Naw. Ratio is more 2 to 1. If you're comparing 5.56 to .45, they occupy almost the same space. One is longer, the other is fatter. 3 9mm rounds could theoretically fit in the space of 1 7.62mm. Depends on how picky you want to get with realism. The more realistic DayZ is, the happier I am. 18. Yes, another "alpha" thing. They'll fix it. 19. Headlamp should definitely aim at your reticle. No question about it. 20. "Alpha" 21. Yeah, definitely. The way players interact with environments needs to be fixed. This is definitely a huge part of that. I for one, like to close doors behind me if i'm in a large city. Less chance of someone finding me. The contextual actions need to be tightened up a bit. Same with things like stepping over fences, etc. While we're talking about it, doors should make noise. If you're standing, they should make a standard door opening and closing. If you're crouched/prone, they should make little to no noise. Also, if I can't control how a door opens, it should be transparent when it opens, and solid when it closes. Nothing more annoying than opening an outward swinging door to have it push you off some steps.... 22. Isn't there one? I use the dude in the center of my inventory to equip clothing etc. 23. Wouldn't mind this. But I can live without it. Immersion and realism would tell us that there should be no ammo counter at all. Either count your shots, or remove the magazine to determine. Even then when you remove an M4's magazine the most you can see is 2 rounds. 24. I think ammo should be auto-pulled if it's in your tactical vest/hoodie/hunters jacket etc. In a backpack, definitely not. Especially considering how big a mountain backpack is, imagine having to sift through your junk to find a few loose rounds. 25. I think it's okay to keep manual stacking. Imagine if you're looting in a hurry. You're just tossing stuff into your backpack with reckless abandon. If you want to stop, open it up, and manually stack for organization, have at it. Otherwise the quick looters will have to do without. This keeps away the "run and gun" mentality as if this were an FPS and less of a simulation. 26. I get random FPS spikes at times. I'm sure they're working on optimizing as well as bug fixes. All part of Alpha. Runs pretty damn good for an alpha I might add. 27. I don't have a problem reading the compass. For a magnetic compass to function, it must be level with the horizon. So this is okay I think. 28. I agree. I don't want any faux doors or faux buildings at all. I think ultimately that is their goal. But I hate doors that are just pieces of the wall that look like doors.... If you want to board them up so we can't get in, that's fine. Also there are glitched doors that have opening context to them, but don't actually open nor can you pass through. I'm sure that's a planned fix. Also on a side note. You could have boarded up doors that can only be taken down with an axe (loudly) or a crowbar (more quietly) that would present loot only for the properly equipped character. Just a thought. 29. "alpha" All in all, a good list. Just because I disagree with a few points, doesn't mean others won't like the idea. This is just my opinion, but it's how we help the devs shape a better game :)
