You need this video: Turns out soda is actually really good :) Beans are even better!

Everything you mentioned is already planned. Server hoppers/combat loggers and planned to be dealt with. Buildings and shelters will be the end-game content (according to Rocket)
-
In Rockets words, they wanted to build the engine from the ground up. I'm sure they salvaged many pieces of the old engines. But from what I understand this beast is their own creation.

Do you think now zombies are a threat?
Bakercompany86 replied to blurhitz's topic in General Discussion
Zombies are not a threat as soon as you learn how to play. For a new character, yes they can be a threat. Otherwise not really. They're just deterrents. I fired off my Mossin in the center of a town last night, on a night server. 5 Zombies answered the call, and all were dispatched. No problem. -
Thank you guys!!!

So lame..... I know there are a ton of posts about combat loggers and server hoppers. But man... they are all justified. As soon as they fix those two things, this game is going to get a lot more enjoyable. Hell that guy could have got up and sprinted into the town zig zagging. He wouldn't have gotten hit much at all at that range. But nope...gotta be a lamer.

Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game
Bakercompany86 replied to jamoy1993's topic in General Discussion
I believe I read somewhere that next patch the military spawns are being reduced by 50%. They probably put the M4 and FNX in first because they were the first weapons programmed into the game (just an assumption). And they probably made them abundant so many people would have them, thus the shooting mechanics would be well tested. I'm sure by release or even in the coming year they'll tone it down greatly. -
How do you prepare to log off?
Bakercompany86 replied to Apple Monster's topic in General Discussion
I don't log off anywhere near a city or in any kind of building. Just out in the woods. It's the only way to be as safe as possible. -
Awesome, thank you =) Now to add a couple I forgot. How do you: -Adjust wind/elevation on gunsights? -Zoom in/out and do the above mentioned with a rifle scope?
-
I would like to know this as well. I haven't really messed around with it. I took the bayonet off simply because it made the rifle so freaking long, and I didn't want parts of my character clipping through walls and giving away my position.
-
I like your thinking. Especially considering police centers. Police stations would be a good spot to score the mid-tier loot. You have your civilian/residential stuff, then your police gear, followed by military grade. Not to mention that would give players more areas to search. As it stands, every-single-military spot is camped. I was on a server with TWO other people, and the military base I went to had someone in it. It was one near the center of the map to, not a coastal area or NW. Probably a server hopper, but still! It's ridiculous.

This game won't get to the popularity it deserves because of it's hardcore nature. Every game that earns game of the year always has some hand-holding to it, unlike DayZ (or Dark Souls, for example). In my opinion it deserves GOTY or at least some kind of award because of the way it brings out real human nature.

Some thoughts about melee combat
Bakercompany86 replied to overdosed (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I might be thinking of Daggerfall. It's been a while. Basically, you hold down LMB and the direction you move the mouse is the direction and type of swing. There were no power attacks back then, so you couldn't hold the button for a smash attack or anything. Right clicking blocked. That's what I was referencing. Could have sworn it was similar in Skyrim still. -
Some thoughts about melee combat
Bakercompany86 replied to overdosed (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
So you mean like a Skyrim combat system? I'll honestly take any improvement to melee in this game, as it's currently horrible. I know it's not their intention to leave things this way, but man is it rough now. I do like that form of combat. The click and drag to execute your desired strike. This makes it easier to program in the different weights and physics for different weapons. A fire axe is large and heavy, you wouldn't be able to swing the thing around rapidly like a fencing sword. At the same time, why the hell does a crowbar take so much effort to kill a zombie? I should be able to execute an overhead smash that crushes their skull almost instantly, at least stagger them. Blocking should also be an option, or at least some sort of deflection. I might not be a skilled martial artist, but if someone swings an axe at me and i'm holding a large pipe wrench I'm sure as hell going to move that pipe wrench to try and absorb the blow instead of my face. -
Maybe as an optional mechanic, but I doubt they're going to break away from their long list of plans to do something like this (for now, anyway). It's not a bad idea by any means. I personally like fresh characters waking up washed up on shore with just a flashlight and their clothes. Adds to the challenge and immersion. I do believe however, that back when this game was originally drafted up that Rocket mentioned his idea of "end game" achievement would be some sort of fortification. He mentioned specifically underground bunkers and subterranean dwelling.

Why are we making it harder to be friendly??
Bakercompany86 replied to Lidskjalf's topic in General Discussion
I do not want to see any "God Modifier" of any sort implemented into this game. The closer to realism, the better for me. When I help a player who is struggling, or just simply give them a chance and it ends up well, I feel good and enjoy the game a bit more. That's how I want to play. If someone shoots be for whatever reason, be it paranoia, gear, or just to be a dick, they are free to do so and should be able to do so without any consequences minus what's already existing (gunfire drawing zombies/players etc). But please, no morality system. This game is about human nature and survival, not weird mechanics to earn gear. -
Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game
Bakercompany86 replied to jamoy1993's topic in General Discussion
Yes and no. Gun collectors and hobbyists are the last ones anyone has to worry about for a few reasons. 1. Above all, we respect firearms and practice safety at an extreme. 2. We value our collections and LOCK OUR SHIT UP. Period. It's the idiots who just go on down to the local pawn shop and buy a handgun because they think its cool, and then toss it in their nightstand drawer without securing it. Then they get burglarized and the weapon is stolen. This is how thugs are getting a hold of firearms. Yeah America is way past the point of "disarm everyone". At this point you can only disarm the legal owners. And then you're leaving them defenseless....Sorry but Police response time is just not fast enough for me. Anyway, back on topic. All-in-all I'd rather see 90% civilian grade weapons. And that small 10% of military grade weapons would need to be rare spawns indeed. Having said that. It's perfectly legal to own a .50 cal bolt action or semi-auto rifle. But it is EXPENSIVE. Thus, they wouldn't really exist in this area of the world. So I rule those out. Pretty much any other bolt action rifle I wouldn't really consider "military grade". As long as shotguns are either double barreled (be it side by side or over and under) or pump action, I think they'll all be fine. I'm very leery about adding semi-auto shotguns in the game for aforementioned reasons. The Benelli M4 is perfectly legal to own, but again very expensive. I'd wager you wouldn't see any in this area of the world. Now back to "military grade". So on his list that includes the full-auto SMGs, the ACR, and a couple others I think (can't remember the entire list). Personally, you'd never find an ACR, let alone a full auto ACR in this area. You probably wouldn't find one in America either as they haven't won a contract with our military and we're still using the M4s. Semi-auto is legal to own but again, very expensive and not likely to be in this area of the world. Full-auto SMGs of a few types would be found in Police Headquarters and military outposts. Due to their high ROF and limited ranges, I don't see them as being super overpowered, and it would be legit to consider a couple existing in the region. Again, a very rare spawn. FN FALs are very common. You won't find them in full auto much, but many people own their semi-auto counterparts. Totally legit, can support optics, and would be a great DMR type rifle without being overpowered (in my opinion). The AN-94 would typically be found in this area in military zones. I think it would be a legit extremely rare spawn to find. Semi-auto AK-47's would be a somewhat rare find. They are plentiful, and semi-auto isn't super powerful even considering a 30-40 round capacity. Their full auto counterparts should exist, but also be a very rare find. No pistol should be off limits, until people start throwing around models like the Glock G18c or any other machine pistol. Those should be a no-no. No bolt action rifle under .50 cal should be off limits. Again the likely hood of anyone in the region using one would be unrealistic. Police don't use them (in America anyway). Police here usually use a 7.62mm bolt-action for their marksmen. Did I miss anything? -
Why are we making it harder to be friendly??
Bakercompany86 replied to Lidskjalf's topic in General Discussion
No sidechat please...that would destroy immersion and the primary aspect of this game, which is exploring human nature. The whole point is, you cannot communicate with someone unless you would actually be able to communicate with them in reality. Which means vocal distance. I don't want to see player names when I aim at them. I don't want to see a players name that killed me. I however, wouldn't mind some sort of dogtag system where I could log the people I've killed or bodies I've found. Entirely unnecessary, just saying I wouldn't oppose it. -
This is the best way to play the game, in my opinion. That's where my challenge comes from. Taking a fresh spawn and getting enough gear quickly so you don't starve to death. Then get the hell off the coast. Make your way through a few towns getting food and supplies. Try to reach one of the northern military bases to get a decent weapon. I understand your frustration (talking to the OP). When they address combat loggers and server hoppers, the game will get 10x more enjoyable in my opinion.

Played for an hour or so today and...
Bakercompany86 replied to Mdogg2005's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I always like to here reports from the field, especially from new players. I've largely avoided players. I enjoy surviving solo. My friends and I have yet to meet up simply due to deaths and different play hours. Makes it tough. Other than flying solo, my interactions have been as follows: -First guy I ever killed. I was fighting a zombie and he runs up punching me in the back. I shoot him as he runs away. I catch him in the middle of the streets, and he's actually pissed that I shot him while he was unarmed regardless of trying to probably get a lucky knock out while I was fighting. Unfortunately for him I was full health, uninjured, and protected. What a douche... -Second guy immediately shoots me in the face through a window while I'm looting a house at night with my flashlight (this is before I knew they were like fragments of the sun at night and pass through all buildings). No warning, no communication, just death. -Third guy I ever encountered was probably the nicest and most trusting. I was a fresh spawn. Only had a can of food on me and I was hauling ass away from Cherno. This guy finds me going through a garbage heap in the middle of a field. He's fully equipped to our current "end game" standards. He actually gives me a pistol, with magazine, and 15 rounds. He does mention "don't try anything funny with it". I wasn't stupid, and wouldn't have done anything anyway. We parted ways peacefully. What a guy. -The next few people I encounter all try shooting at me without warning. I want to say this was 6-10 people. Mostly I ran from them as they were in duo's. Two of them I returned fire (more accurately) and they perished. -While running through Balota, I encounter and unarmed guy. I myself only have a baseball bat and an M4 with no magazine, just single chambered rounds. I tell him I'm only looking for food, and he backs away and leaves without a word. -Running to meet a friend, I hastefully search a lone house near the shore for food, as I'm out and getting hungry. On my way out I encounter a guy with a fireaxe. He swings and misses (I think) and immediately takes off running as I have a fully loaded M4. I unload half a magazine into his back. He doesn't die. I hear a phantom melee hit, and I die (nobody was near me). I chalk that one up to lag and move on (that's the most I've lost to date, and what a crappy way for it to happen). -Finally this morning, I get a chance to pay-it-forward from the guy who gave me the pistol and left in peace. I was in the not-so-secret military base east of Pustoshka. While looting one of the two barracks, I noticed a guy in the barracks to my right. I crept up on him and cornered him, he had no melee weapon and an M4 without a magazine. So he was pretty harmless. I struck up a conversation with him. He was completely honest, stating that he was in a hurry to find a melee weapon or ammo to kill me, because naturally he assumed I was hostile. His honesty saved him, and I mentioned that I'm not a typical kill-on-sight type of guy. So after a short conversation, we finished looting the base together. I ended up giving him some ammo for his M4 (I'm using a Mossin anyway), plus a couple other goodies like my old splitting axe. I made out with a nice new Fire Axe, a full medkit, and some charcoal tabs. I offered him food and water, but he declined as he was well stocked. We said our goodbyes and parted ways. I honestly love the many different encounters I have with humans. I'll be a lot more humanitarian in my efforts when I'm rolling with friends and we encounter solos or new spawns. Groups with guns usually mean trouble... -
Drinking your own urine without proper filtration would make you violently ill. Urine has a very high concentration of ammonia among other chemicals. This is not a good idea. Plus as mentioned, you're never too far away from a water pump.

Like the idea. Beans my friend.

Combatlogging, what it is, and how to prevent it
Bakercompany86 replied to phoboss's topic in Suggestions
I meant any shots YOU fire, would engage your timer. People shooting at you should not engage your timer for a few reasons. If they HIT you it should definitely engage the timer.I say that people shooting at you shouldn't engage it for 2 reasons off the top of my head:1. People could shoot at you from a ridiculous range (700m to 1km for example) just to keep you in combat.2. People not shooting at you, but at zombies or another player, shouldn't engage your timer. Only damage should engage it if you're not the one shooting. That coupled with your anti-server hopping idea would be really solid I think. I can't really think of too many ways the above could be exploited. Actually it's not a bad idea at all to have dc'ed players immune to zombies or at least invisible to them. Yeah it could potentially be exploited by someone who attracted a horde. But if you fired a shot to attract said horde, your logout timer would be engaged regardless. So actually the most it could be exploited against is single zombie aggro. OR, that immunity could only be implemented if you DC before you aggro zombies. So if you have one chasing you, and you DC'ed, it would still be able to hurt you. Yeah some players would be affected by bad ISP's this way, but it would at least be minimal. -
Combatlogging, what it is, and how to prevent it
Bakercompany86 replied to phoboss's topic in Suggestions
Personally, any shots fired regardless of target should engage the combat timer. As far as the time to remain in world on a disconnect (which would become the new combat logging if they implemented the rest of your ideas), I think 30 seconds to a minute would be more appropriate. When they fix bodies, provided you kill the person you'd have all the time in the world to loot it. But for the people who literally have crappy internet connections, I'd hate for them to persist in game for multiple minutes to be eaten by a zombie just because their ISP sucks. 30 to 60 seconds in a high pressure situation is a looooong time. However your ideas are solid and I like them. That would remedy server hoppers and combat loggers. I especially like your timer build-up idea for logging in and out of servers, including the 30 minute reset. Great ideas, beans for you. -
Massive Balota Battle Against Ghosters
Bakercompany86 replied to Merrick362 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Very cool video. Nice shooting. I need to learn how to adjust range and stuff like that, especially since I'm carrying a Mossin. Thankfully, I think they are planning on addressing combat logging among other annoyances that are not only borderline cheating but seriously break immersion.
