The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

Both. We only have what we've been told to go off of. Rocket said they were taking the time to re-write the engine from the ground up. So as far as we know, that's what they've done. Unless you happen to have both sets of sourcecode handy so we can compare?

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

That's an awful lot of assumption.

    is anybody friendly out there??

You won't be for long...I suggest getting the hell out of there ASAP if you want to live. You're in the #1 kill zone.

How to value a player's life

^This. Also they're going to drastically alter spawns (next patch we'll see a 50% reduction in military grade weapon spawns). When they do this, everyone will value their lives a bit more. A 30 minute respawn timer would kill the game. A skill system is also something that doesn't need to exist in this game.

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

Definitely needs optimization. Rocket has even said this himself. No argument there.

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

There's two problems with this argument though. 1. BI rebuilt the engine from the ground up (Rocket's own words) specifically to suit the SA. So it's technically not the same engine. 2. There are players like me that aren't having any performance issues whatsoever. All of the performance is probably related to rendering. Once they repair the rendering aspect, everything will get better for all players. Example: Look at Dark Souls. The game runs damn good across multiple machines in all areas......except one. Blighttown. No matter what machine/console you're running or how powerful it is, you will be guaranteed to have framerate issues in Blighttown. Simply because of what the area is trying to render. (They never bothered to fix that, by the way. Still a great game though.)

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

The problem is people aren't pointing out flaws, they're introducing strawman arguments. Unless you're an expert programmer with a copy of the engine sourcecode, how on earth would you know the engine is the problem? You simply need to report "I have FPS drop *insert location*". But some are just spouting off that the engine is garbage, the engine is the worst engine ever, we should be using CryEngine etc etc. That's all bullshit. Report the bugs, report the flaws, but don't create false arguments about stuff you don't have the slightest bit of knowledge on.

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

I'm running: -AMD FX 8150 8-Core, Liquid Cooled -GeForce GTX 660 TI (not overclocked) -8 Gigs DDR3 (Corsair Vengeance, not that it matters) I run smooth everywhere. I will get exact numbers tonight when I'm home. But I never EVER encounter crazy FPS drops. What I do get, is random FPS spikes (drops). This happens in the middle of fields, just as much as in cities. Which means programming flaws, not engine performance. This engine is great for DayZ.

Out of curiosity, what are your PC specs?

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

Am I the only one who actually has really good performance on high settings? My game looks gorgeous, runs smoothly about 90% of the time, and generally performs well. I'm not sure what some are expecting from an early access alpha build of a game. But I think the expectations are a bit higher and maybe even unrealistic. This engine is perfect for this game. Give them time. Especially since the official release isn't even slated until 2015, and even that's a ballpark figure at this point.
  11. This is very apparent when your breathing/movement noises are replaced by a partial zombie screech. I know this happens to me often. And in that regard, the sound of me shitting myself is still the same....

Yes please don't take away my Zombies....

    SUNGLASSES IDEA

YES! PLEASE! Facing the sun is like.....well....staring into the sun. Would love to have actual functionality added to my "Rocket Aviators". :D

Dayz SA Killed my Hype for ESO

I was really excited for ESO too. I had played the Beta a good bit and was really sold that I was going to be playing it for sure. But DayZ SA definitely put the bullet in that. Why the hell would I pay $15 a month for another MMO that while different and gorgeous is essentially the same thing, when I could play DayZ that gives me a different experience just about every day. DayZ also gets my heart pumping. When I've been casually skimming towns for food and supplies, and I suddenly see another player....my heart starts pounding. It's really intense. And thus far we don't even have nearly the total amount of features implemented that will eventually be the finished product. Yet I'm already having a ton of fun. Just imagine when we can cook, gather, hunt...etc. This game is awesome.

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

I love the obvious non-programmers who comment like they are experts on game engine development. I also love that they're making judgement about a game engine for a early access alpha that is very unfinished and has been stated as such by the developer. And the game even in this stage is freaking excellent in my opinion.

Dayz --- My experience (opinion) so far...

Like Skyrim? From Bethesda? Who have multi-million dollar production budgets and massive development teams of programmers who have been experienced with the same game engine for years? As opposed to a small team of guys who spawned from developing a mod. It's essential to put things into perspective. Unless any of the forum-goers are closet millionaires and want to donate a massive amount of money to BI for the development of DayZ SA, I think they're doing a damn fine job with what they have. And it's getting better as time goes on (hence the whole "This is an unfinished Alpha") message we all read. Also as Lady Kyrah mentioned above, it's better for programmers to go with an engine they are experienced with as opposed to learning a new one from the ground up. They're programmers, they can modify the engine as they need.
  18. Sounds like you got the ultimate hookup from an extremely friendly player. Very rare occurrence indeed. Enjoy!

Dayz --- My experience (opinion) so far...

Am I the only one who doesn't see a problem with the engine? Also, are you an expert programmer who has a copy of the engine sourcecode to dissect and inspect for errors? If you answered "no" to either part of that last question, then you have no idea what you are talking about. Sometimes it's not the engine, but the instruction set fed to the engine. All things can be ironed out over time. Plus didn't I read that one of the reasons it took so long to get progress on SA is because they rewrote the engine from the ground up to better suit the SA? Also you have no idea how much it costs to license CryEngine, or any other engine for that matter. (Hint, we're talking millions probably). Getting real sick of these game engine complaint threads.

    Bodies vanishing after killing them

This is what's happening. As soon as they respawn, their body disappears. Hopefully they fix this soon. Although I guarantee this is a planned fix. Regardless if someone kills you on sight or not, they deserve the loot. And after they've picked it clean of what they want, scavengers should be able to loot it as well. Adds another aspect to the game. A few more actually (baiting, etc).
  21. Bakercompany86

What do YOU do when you are geared?

Always try to perfect my loot set. And I always act extremely paranoid.

Suggestion for a better perma-death feeling

I get your line of thinking. Definitely not the worst suggestion on this forum, but I strongly disagree. When you die, chances are you are no where near your body to just run over and loot your stuff. In no death have I even spawned within a few kilometers of my death (assuming I knew where I was in the first place). Plus if you recently died, whatever killed you is still there. Also as the second comment mentioned, this absolutely sucks for people who want to play with friends. And it's hard enough to meet up with friends anyway. Plus if you die, it doesn't really matter which loot hive you are a part of as you have nothing once again.

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

It is a troll topic. The OP is most likely not a programmer. The OP also most likely has not seen any form of sourcecode from the engine itself to be able to dissect it in such a way. Plus if he were a programmer, he'd know that it might not necessarily be the engine at fault, but the instruction set that is being fed into the engine. I was also pretty sure that Rocket said the engine was being rebuilt from the ground up to suit the standalone, which would make the OP wrong anyway.

    Mosin vs M4A1

For those wondering about bayonet attacks, it's currently not implemented. No point in putting one on your rifle for other than looks right now. And it makes the Mossin about 10 feet long.... I took mine off simply because I didn't want my weapon clipping through walls and giving away my position. Mossin will definitely kill with 1 shot to the head. If they're wearing any sort of helmet, you MUST shoot them in the face for it to be one shot. Otherwise you will basically destroy their helmet and damage them badly, but they won't die. I can't confirm nor deny the one shot to body kill. If I had to guess, it's probably 1 shot if the player has absolutely no body equipment at all (vests, jackets, hoodies), and probably 2 shots with.
  25. It's not bad, but it's not accurate. Also firing them indoors (like say, an aircraft hangar) is VERY loud. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo4kFzECXGs
