Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
Bakercompany86 replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
Good point. Maybe Rocket's endgame thoughts will translate well into that player life value we're seeking. It is true, that there is no reason to *not* kill someone if you're going to rob them anyway. Unless you just want to be a decent person. And we're out there.... Like this interaction for example. I thought this was pretty cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROkftUbovIU -
Any ideas on fixing "Ghost Walking"?

Night time In Dayz SA and your thoughts?
Bakercompany86 replied to BlackDalia's topic in General Discussion
My thinking exactly. Here in Arkansas you can stand in an open field with no unnatural lighting around you at all, and it's pretty damn bright if the moon isn't obstructed by clouds. If they change the lighting to reflect this, people wouldn't have to jack up their gamma. Complete utter darkness would only be in buildings or forests. Even then you'd get SOME light. -
Any ideas on fixing "Ghost Walking"?
Bakercompany86 replied to TimberWolfz's topic in General Discussion
Ghosting sucks big time. So does server hopping, and combat logging. But I do believe that the community is unanimous in our outcry to fix this, and I believe BI has stated they are working on a solution. Once these things are fixed, the game will get a lot more enjoyable. -

Must be the area I'm in that makes me think I'd kill almost everyone who approached my dwelling.....or maybe I'm just a dark human being. -

Does that sound logical in our current situation? No.... In a post apocalyptic world in a very poor area of Russia...maybe you wouldn't, but others would. -
I dig this idea. I want a grizzly beard anyways. But adding the element of a time indicator is pretty cool, I think. I always wonder how many characters are relatively new and just blitzed to get their gear, and how many are actually survivors. :) Of course I say I want a grizzly beard, but this current character who's been alive for days happened to spawn with boobs.....regardless of my default character. *sigh*

DayZ SA - Initial Thoughts - Will it ever live up to it's potential?
Bakercompany86 replied to Timma (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
1. They are most definitely working on optimization. I don't know why I'm different, or just not seeing it, but my performance is always excellent. Even in cities. I'll get exact FPS numbers tonight if I stay awake enough to play. But I really don't ever notice framerate issues. I would definitely notice and bitch about it, because I'm a stickler for FPS performance. You are not alone however, there are other players out there experiencing exactly this. 2. The movement system needs tightening, in my opinion. I noticed you couldn't crouch/sidestep through doorways, and it irritated me at first. But then I realized "Hey asshole, could YOU fit through a door sideways wearing a mountain backpack?" The answer is definitely no. But what I'm referring to is the extra-unwanted movement. When you are crouch-walking forward and you release the movement key, but your character continues to move a couple of feet forward. Things like that I'd love to see tightened up, at least when you're at full health. If you're suffering heavy blood loss, or dying of starvation, your movement would be a little sloppy for sure. But not at full health and ready to rock and roll. I hope they tighten up the controls a bit. Although I think this is less of an issue with the engine (people are quick to blame the engine, I don't think that's actually the problem). 3. Agreed. Being that melee is such a huge part of this game, it definitely stands to reason that it needs to be super tight. But i'm 100% positive they know this and will improve it as time goes on. At least it's functional. 4. Pretty sure I've heard Rocket talk about a lot of features to be implemented. Gathering, hunting, cooking, even a touch of herbalism. I've also heard his idea of true DayZ Endgame content, is building fortifications. Specifically subterranean dwellings. Also vehicles will definitely be implemented, most likely with the ability to lock portions of them. Which is cool. I have complete faith that he will continue to expand the world and add features as long as they're realistic and don't detract from the core experience that makes DayZ unique. As far as my opinion of the game goes; I really enjoy it and enjoy the unique experience I get out of playing it. The player interactions are truly unlike any other game I've played. You really get a sense of human nature from playing. I love the core experience of DayZ. I can't wait until further refinements are made (like movement, melee, and Zombies). Even in it's current state, it's very enjoyable. Everyone has their own set of goals. Mine happens to be to survive as long as possible, helping as many people along the way while trying to avoid death by bandit. Each person will garner their own experience from playing DayZ, that is for sure. -
Possibly hacked or something lol

This is my guess as well. It's happened to me before. -
Pics or it never happened.

There isn't a razor or can of shaving cream in sight. I think beards are justified :)

This. If you used bandages from torn up clothing, there is a chance for infection if you don't first sterilize them.

From what I understand there is a bug with ladders that will kill you occasionally. Be sure to report the bug.

AMD FX-8150 here. No problems that I can see.

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
Bakercompany86 replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
Welcome to the truth about human nature. It probably wouldn't be much different in a real apocalypse (except maybe in places like Japan). You'll find kind and cooperative players. Maybe far and few between, but we're out there. -
Make sure you report bugs like this. They'll definitely add it to the "to do" list :)

-I really think the tape recorder idea is cool. Leaving an audio journal or a message for your killer (or someone who found your corpse that was mauled by zombies). However due to the network overhead involved, I doubt we'll see anything like it implemented. Now the radio broadcast from Green Mountain to anyone with a radio is pretty cool and could work actually. You're not storing audio files to be sent and retrieved from a server. It's just a VOIP multicast to anyone with a radio :) Neat idea actually. -I don't think Rocket will ever implement skills. It just goes against what he wants this game to be (and the majority of the playerbase). I also would prefer to never see skills in this game. I really don't think it fits with the hyper-realism this game is all about. Just my personal opinion. There are both people who support this idea and do not support it. -Never used or been in handcuffs (yet). Can't really comment here. -I actually don't know my blood type. That's just my horrible memory though. I definitely knew it 6 years ago when my son was born, but have since forgotten. So not everyone knows their blood type. HOWEVER. I don't see anything wrong with an ID system in this game. Someone mentioned an idea of people having personal identifications on them of some sort (like a drivers license). And it could include blood type! Unless Rocket wants to stick with the whole testing thing. And like you mentioned Saline bags are currently the way to go (and I find more of them than the pieces necessary for blood testing anyway). So really I'd take any change in this department, or we can leave it as is. Doesn't bother me either way. It's kind of funny watching people get held up for their blood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROkftUbovIU

Base building as leveling system.
Bakercompany86 replied to Magnusveritas's topic in General Discussion
Because in reality, I either know something or I don't. I can either figure it out, or I can't. It's not some meter that fills up and then *ding*, I learn a skill. In DayZ, "skills" are a players knowledge base. Like opening a can with a kitchen knife. Some players might not even know that until they read this sentence. But imaginary numbers and meters (outside of our hunger/thirst system) are not realistic, in my humble opinion. -
Base building as leveling system.
Bakercompany86 replied to Magnusveritas's topic in General Discussion
Not sure about the OP's ideas. I definitely don't want any sort of leveling system or anything that strongly dips outside the realm of reality for DayZ. But Rocket did mention that his idea of end game for DayZ will be something like subterranean dwellings and bases for players. We'll see where he goes with that. I've also heard we'll have vehicles that we can lock and potentially store stuff. Sort of a mobile base. -
A solid post with great points that are well thought out. I agree night time needs some adjustment (for both realism and gameplay). It's actually not realistic for night time to be completely pitch black all the time. Yes there should be the occasional cloud cover that restricts the moons illumination. But to be completely pitch black constantly is not only unrealistic, it restricts gameplay heavily on night servers. They are working on timers to prevent server hopping and combat loggers btw. Good news there. They're also working to balance spawns so Balota hopefully won't be such a terrible place. Agree on the server selection change as well. Definitely need to know what time of day a server is before joining, especially if we're going to implement timers for server hoppers.

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.
Bakercompany86 replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely. Funding is a HUGE part of video game development. A lot of potentially good games died or ended up being flops because they ran out of money (look at Brink). -
Yeah both are what I'm used to seeing at night, which is absolutely nothing at all. I can't play at night unless I jack up my gamma and I hate doing that. Also, flashlights are death beacons... Definitely welcome changes (addition) to moonlighting.
