Rename to DayB (Bandits are scarier than zombies)
muddyraccoon replied to Mancomb's topic in New Player Discussion
I thought DayZ was just a cute way to spell Daisy. I may quite playing now. But Morality, oh you selfish bitch. Morality is an illusion in the form of Avatars. We control a character, but it is impossible for us to tie our will to them. We don't feel pain or consequences. So Say what you will about psychotics, CoD or Battlefield kids, and KoS'ing turds, the fact remains that people can only play a certain way as long as their boredom and distraction are held in check. Looting over and over and over and over just to go run in the forest, looking for "OMG AMAZING" rock formations and sunsets and sunrises? I'd sooner use some pristine rope to make a noose for my character. The main problem occurs when people start using other players actions as excuses. "Well, thats the third time I've been killed, and since my life in game is so important, which others don't seem to understand, I am left with no other choice but to KoS everyone else." I have been saying it so much lately. It is a sandbox. I think the only way to find a sense of purpose in this game is to do everything you can possibly do. Maybe one time when you have a full backpack, you run to the coast and start handing out goods. You are going to die, probably, but think of how many players you help. Maybe that makes you happy. Also, if continuously dying is a problem for you, prehaps record yourself playing and ask for advice. I am sure you are doing something you shouldn't; i.e. running down streets, looting the first village you spawn next to, going to Elektro for gunz and glory. And no, I don't think you should be able to do whatever you want with a server. If you pay for one, you do so after reading terms and conditions, which tell you not to get one unless you follow the rules. Thats server buyers fault, and I wish more got banned for kicking unnecessarily. This isn't the mod, I dont want "versions" of the standalone. I want DayZ, much the same as the devs. -
Do bandits really exist on DayZ Standalone?
muddyraccoon replied to TheModernGamer94's topic in General Discussion
I play every way possible. It's the only way too play. That way I can criticize people who criticize people who play a certain way. But truth be told, Morality is a vulgar and primitive concept invented by our ability to invent concepts like futility. After a particularly painful death, I might grap an axe, bat or hoe and roam the streets beating the hell out of anyone and everyone I see. After I get killed, I may calm down and repent, hand out some cans of beans. If I'm feeling psychotic, I may shoot your legs, and run circles around you until i get bored and either drop some morphine and run away, or just run away. Since it's a sandbox, I will treat it as such. And the whining of forum responders will not deter me. Unless I play with my clan. Then I am a different person altogether. -
It is natural to hate the idea of "corner peaking" if you prefer hardcore. It is borderline retarded to assume that players playing in 3PP won't use the MECHANIC (not abuse) regardless of how anyone thinks it should be played. Is it there? Yes. Done. End of argument. To not use it is to set yourself up for serious failure in regular. I'm not saying it's an intended feature, but it is there, and it will be used until removed. (<-- ain't gonna happen) I prefer Hardcore and stick to it as much as I can. But when I play regular, you can sure as shit assume that I am looking over walls and around corners. I'm not naive enough to let my principles get me killed.
-
Im there with you! I love that idea. No exterior light, means you have to use a flashlight. It could be like that Multiplayer level in Goldeneye. Thats one thing you don't hear people say. Instead of CoD whiners, it could be Goldeneye whiners... Anywho, the idea that a cave could be an assaultable position, or better yet (though low on the realism side, so so sorry everyone, please kill me quick) we could have one cave system throught the map so multiple entrances could exist. Sorry Dean, CaveZ is My idea (With majority credit to Drunken Knife).

Between this video, and the one lalas posted, I want to go on a bambi punch fest tonight!

Just Logged back in after several qweeks away from SA...
muddyraccoon replied to KOBKED-X's topic in General Discussion
By KOBKED! thanks for wasting our time. Note that I find the game very playable and highly entertaining. What's not entertaining? Reading your dark grey text on a black background. I wish I could nominate perma-ban, because I don't think you deserve to play this game, but perhaps in 4-10 months I'll let bygones be bygones. But until then: -
What to do with cheaters? Yeah I know what you'd like to do. You'd like to find the guy who did it, rip his still beating heart out of his chest and hold it in front of his face so he can see how black it is before he dies.
-
Find an object, like a hammer or something, set it on your W key, and point your guy at that village. Then go do what you will. Come back, you should be there. Just an idea.
-
YES! That makes me so happy to see. Nice work, mate. That video, I wish I could give you more than one can o' beans. But take them all the same. That video, made my day sir. I don't know how many times I wanted revenge, and he just popped off for a second, probably felt good about himself. I wish I could have seen his reaction when he got back to you looting his character.
-
Mr. Sinister, if you and your lass want to join a clan, I found that helps deal with the pain of loss quite a bit. Nothing like telling people how you were just murdered for no reason, losing gear, to have people say "Where are you, I got stuff you can have." OP? Nice video, mate! That sounds like a fun event. And I would kill my best friend (in DayZ) for $2 scratch off lottery ticket, so I think you played well!
-
I literally try everything in Regular. I play as a hero, a bandit, a traveling carepackage who gives away everything until Im left with skivies, a murdering psychopath that kills anything with 2 legs, an even bigger psychopath that will shoot the legs out from under you, and watch you beg for death, but usually an empathetic character that realizes being treated like a shit by a dickhead is terrible, so I usually offer a location and an exchange to my recent victims "Hey, I know I just murdered you for fun, but I will secure this building if you want to meet me here." So I guess what you say is true. I play every way possible, but I usually end up being a softie and trying to help, kinda like those Sour Patch Kids commercial. I know I acted like a sociopath, but I feel feelings, unless I drink to unfeel. I should say "used to" above. Now I just play. I don't care about KoS'ers or dying, so I freely communicate with people and offer trades or free stuff if I have too much. I think part of the problem is people take things so personal these days, that it's hard to accept the inevitability of death in this game, and they take out their rage on little spawnlings on the beach. But for revenge for attacking me or my clanmates, I will torture you for as long as you stay logged in.

It's an exponential curve regardless of the sight. For the ACOG I believe the middle line correspond to the default 200m. But beyond that, it may be 100m increments, but I don't know (it seems like a large drop off for only being 100m increments, but someone with more knowledge should give the bottom line). For the PU scope, one of the problems most people have is assuming the drop off is way more than it is. I set my PU scope to 200, and dont mess with zeroing unless it is to decrease it for some CQ action, since the Mosin or SKS is the bauce gun for CQ... Anyways, I find the best way to determine the distance is to practice. Go to a small town and shoot some zombies from far away. Use different means to judge distance. Hell, go to the coast and pick off freshspawns. Just, make sure after each kill you explain to no one that they died for science. EDIT: Turns out if you read a thread, try to reply, and forget to submit it, and wait a few hours, by the time you post, your info is no longer relevant. Not sure it was to begin with. Did my font just change? wtf?

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
muddyraccoon replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
This thread needs to end. Please stop responding to it. It needs to be buried deep in the archives of other terrible game-breaking ideas. Why not select a faction when you log in? Why not choose a class? Just go play a Blizzard game or an EA game. For me, the Sandbox remains open to anything. Quit trying to tinkle in my Sandbox. -
Bahaha! Literally my new favorite thing to do. I tracker a group of 4 towards the NEAF and I thought they might head to Krazno, and sure enough they were running that way. On the roof of the school I watched them take a screenshot (I assume), I watched them make funny poses by laying on eachother, then I watched them panic when I fired off some Magnum shots and watched the zombies come in. I think one was downed, though I had to hide. But you know what they say about risk/reward...it's hilarious. Trolling people in DayZ without violence. Clever hilarity.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
muddyraccoon replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Since this is a feedback thread could everyone please stop quoting other people's comments to criticize them? This is probably too late since it's on Page 22. Now on to the Zombies. So, whenever I found a gun, I would always go to a street, find a far target, zero my SKS, Mosin, pistol, take a shot or two, then go about my business. Since I always play stealth, this one seemingly careless act I do is, in my experience, the best way to bring anyone within earshot out of the woodwork. To groups or lonewolves, a gunshot means danger. To fresh spawns, a ready to use gun. The first time I tried this after the patch, I shot my sks shots (Perfectly on target as always) and ran my usual course through the corner cafe (no open doors, no trails). Once on the other side, I crouch, check out my immediate surroundings, and instantly regret doing what I did. 5 Zombies all running at me, and I mean Running! Not ambling quickly, not even a fast jog. They are sprinting. My SKS was in my hands with a mosin on my back. Nope! Not fast enough. I had to ditch it if I had any hope of escape. Now my favorite thing to do is find people in cities, fire off shots from a rooftop, and watch them scramble from the zombie madness. But for hard, reliable feedback, here is a list. Yay! Fast Zombies! -Faster is way better than what they were -Spawning Zombies was an inspired idea. Better than having every zombie standing dumbly in a yard until they get killed. Then they wouldn't appear until server reset, and th-at is too easy. -Since this ISN"T a simulator, the new zombie mechanics highlight immersion elements. Makes strategy that much more important when moviong/firing Things I'd Change -I think more if not all zombies should be moving most of the time. Even occasionally having them sprint after nothing. Right now, I can sit Berezino in the Hospital, watch 2 or 3 zombies, and I will always now when someone is approaching. Zombie grunts, spins on the spot, and looks SE? So am I. Maybe I don't want to change this... -Zombie sight: I'm sure this has been mentioned a few dozen times, but they can see better than me with scope. There have been a few instances when I barely clear a treeline to scope out a town and they are already chasing me. Once, when I was scoping out Svetlo from way up past the gas station, 3 zeds from the station were all running at me, and there were more pouring out of the town! -MORE!!! MORE MORE MORE! I olove the PVP aspects of this game, and have come to regard dealing with zombies as more of a chore than anything. I would love to see rambling hordes, a zombie migration, zombies in buildings and on roofs, in the woods, in the lou, everywhere. All within server capabilities, of course. -More noises! I feel like these zombies move around with a sort of politeness. Maybe a grunt once they first see you, and a scream when they jump, but thats not enough. They make idle sounds, I think they should be increased. The moan from a massive horde would be terrifying. -
Don't want to give in to the dark side...
muddyraccoon replied to nl's topic in New Player Discussion
My suggestion, OP, is just learn to cope with item loss. Better yet, learn to love looting. That way, death, while still frustrating (or down right rage inducing) will hit you then leave you quick. Once you get that down you can do anything and everything. Even being the hero by yourself! "Here, have this apple! You need a backpack? I can show you where I saw one. Follow me!" - Oh, thanks mate! After I eat your apple I'm going to punch you in the back of the head a few times and just take your stuff. Happens a lot. But it's cool. I've seen a lot of parodies of the Dark Night's quote, but the most accurate for DayZ is this: You either die, or live long enough to die. Because in DayZ, you're gonna die. -
Wait, what? That video speaks what I speak. I will say I typed more than I thought so I might have glazed over my point, or just dropped the ball altogether. Also, I was assuming the diagram was being used for the purpose of showing a broken mechanic? I also speed through most posts by you, Weedz, and strawman, Because, well, you know why. It's ok. Not getting a point across would piss me off too. What I want, is a wider FoV, not a deeper view point. In that diagram of 2 identical angles, the FPV angle is that of someone cupping hands to the sides of their eyes. It's terrible. The FoV when you have the setting on max on 3PP is better, but it should be on 1PP. Again, forget head movements. It should be left up to the gamer to move their eyes, like humans do. Add that with the head movements, and you got something maybe. Or not, I dont know. As for fairness, 3PP will always be here. Even if the devs think it was a mistake to add, it would have been a bigger one not to. If you want the more realistic feel, give 4 of your friends Bath salts, and go camping for fuck;'s sake. For the game, use the feature in Red Orchestra 2. It lets 3PP peak around all the corners and over all the walls they want. But if you are behind a wall and someone is on the other side, if you cant see it in 1PP, it wont show up in 3PP either. They do that for loot, zombies, other players. then all this fun talk energy can go back to a fucking KoS thread or something just as productive. Different playing field. Not uneven. It's pretty much a different experience altogether. And I mean that in the best way possible (when discussing Hardcore servers).

Also, I was pinned down inside a military building, and got in a shootout with a couple of guys over a misunderstanding about a "warning shot." My mic was unplugged and had no idea they couldnt hear me screaming. But I went in the HQ building with the brig and found a gun to fit my .22 mag (Amphibia) and a gun for my CZ75 mag (or clip! Sorry, I dont know or care). Using the wiggle maneuver for it's intended purpose, I was able to take both of them out. I felt like both guns were nearly equal in weakness. The .22 I get since it's a .22. Is the CZ75 weak should I go practice shooting?
-
I seriously felt that everyone was trolling you through acoastalhero. Did you all not get what he meant by his 2 words? Civilian Weapons are not Military weapons or American weapons. Americans can pretty much own whatever they want, since the legal ones get pretty badass, and the illegal ones are easy to get (or so I assume, since some of my redneck family, who thought I was a snob for attending highschool, could get their hands on fully auto whatevers) but good lord, the amount shooting game snobs on here is ridiculous! CoD is a 3 minute deathmatch. Has anyone played it? Oh, no, that's right, I'm on the leet PC with the cool kids from all their respective schools and whatnot. It's all about ARMA and maybe BF4 if I'm slumming it. DayZ KoS playstyle = CoD? hmmmmmmmmmmmm, to quote a smart man, "nope." It's like when I first got on this forum, and some poor sap, with probably minimal gun experience like me, made the worst mistake in the world by calling a clip a magazine. The multi-page torrent that followed was ridiculous. So many replies began with "I HATE it when people get these confused!" Uh, sorry. it holds bullets and goes in a gun. Anyways, off topic, as is everything in this thread (over generalization, I know) SO! "Weapon" spawns have categories. In a firearm weapon spawn, you may find either the gun, the ammo, an attachment, or a magazine or clip. Just hop on another server and look in the same location (BRING IT ON!!)
-
Hmm. I don't know how to handle this. Bully the bullies by pointing out that they are arguing biased opinions against another person's biased opinion and call them stupid? Remind people that immersion and realism are not the same? Explain how broken First Person is if you want realism? (<- turns out it's second nature to flick eyes from side to side in high stress environments, meaning the 1PP should have a near 180 degree angle view just like 3pp with the FOV altered and the eye movements should be left to the player. Unless you are playing on a small small screen, eye tracking will occur, like in real life**) Or should I just call myself a pretentious asshole for asking questions like I'm so superior? Who the fuck do i think I am? Anyways, all of you are wrong and right. Shut up and deal with it. Both exist. Both are played. Both are fun. I will even toss myself in the camp of "Serious in Hardcore servers, no fucks given in Regular." But i will say this, and I am sorry to my Hardcore brethren, but if you think hardcore is harder, you are wrong. Here is my explanation of my opinion that I stated as fact just to rustle some jimmies: In Hardcore, it's easier to hide, it's easier PVP in cities like Berezino. If you are chasing someone in an open are like a field or even a low built city like the outskirts of berezino, that person, unless freshspawn, should have a backpack, and they can't see you. Easy kill. Happens so much i feel bad doing it. But in Hardcore, I'm hardcore. I feel lame for saying that. But that "easier" moniker isn't a superior label. It's easier to play dumb in hardcore, and it is hard to play smart. Especially if you play on 3PP servers before hcore. 3PP servers are MUCH harder (to survive and thrive in), but much much less challenging to pick up. While prone under a window sill, you peek around without letting anyone know you are there, and you see nothing. You try moving out, run out of the building then BAM! turns out 5 other guys were doing the same thing. Going to the airfield? Go prone under a pine tree. You can see the whole airfield. But I guess so can 1pp players, so that isn't even an argume-SSSHHHHHHH! Is that a someone creeping in the woods behind you? Better increase the field of view and alt+turn! Easy as pie ( I assume that saying was coined after the first American Pie. I mean, it did just lie there and take it). No go ahead and rage because lord knows you kids got nothing else going on (it's ok, I don't either), but if this is to succeed as a Sandbox, we need mudslingers on both sides. **Footnote** Strawman's comment is overall flawed, since head movement I think is handled pretty well, it's just his point holds merit in a different light, like how you can get flanked by someone who could walk right up to you and you wouldn't notice until the barrel of the gun entered your field of view. I know that to simulate peripheral vision would look retarded, but widening the FOV for FPP isn't giving a wider overall sight. You still have to look with your real life human eyes at the wide screen (again, if this doesn't apply to you, maybe it's time to update that CRT monitor?) EDIT: nvm, we are on the same page Strawman. That diagram said what my Too Long: Must Read post humorously stated.

new player since 2 weeks just my opinion.
muddyraccoon replied to rigz's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes, you can report those assholes, but it's a bureaucratic nightmare. Mounds of red tape to cut through. I'm talking out my ass, but for real, some dick hole admins will kick even though it is against the rules set forth by Bohemia Interactive et al. Just stay away from those. I only recently found that buildings that are less than a Kilometer away appear untextured. It might be a bug, or just an optimization that hasn't happened yet. On that point, the Alpha is all about Content. For some reason there exist a horde of entitled cry babies that assume that since they decided to pay for an Alpha release that they would add stuff, then make it perfect and shiny and new, and the add some more stuff, then make THAT perfect and shiny. But alas, as has always been, optimization occurs after all the content is added. If you add stuff after you fix stuff, things can get messed up again. I look at it like my future workout plans. Currently my body is in Alpha, so I am cramming it full of delicious food. Om Nom Nom (1911 added) Om Nom Nom (.22 Rifle added) Om Nom Nom (Hunting). I am full to the brim of awesome stuff. Yeah yeah, in the future, I will go into Beta phase, which is me working on the architecture* surrounding all that glorious goodness I added for a year( the flabby body) and I will make it Shiny and Perfect and nothing will walk through things they shouldnt. But again, that is in Beta and the future. Right now we are gluttons for new stuff to use on each other. So if something messes up, dont worry, it will be fixed. Just get over it. I had a mosin that, once spray painted, only held one round! That was rather annoying, so what I did was head to Elektro and pick people off left and right until I was taken out by a guy with an axe. Good times. Also, make sure to give Hardcore a try. Once you get used to it, I swear you wont go back. Also join one of the many amazing clans, or one of the even more numerous douchey clans (I kid with you clans. For fun, because it's alpha). Also make sure your HDR is on LOW and your Brightness and Gamma are maxed at night. Otherwise you are the one tool on a full server walking around Kamyshovo with your flashlight beam flagging down bandits for miles around. -
Why you should be playing on Experimental.
muddyraccoon replied to Forrelist's topic in General Discussion
Look, I am still really noob when it comes to certain things (maybe not noob, but dumb) and I can't find the change log for experimental anywhere. Anyone help me out there? Is there a thread I'm missing? nevermind. Today I learned that typing a highly used and extremely vague search string like "experimental" is going to produce a lot of results. Adding changelog helped, but also hurt my pride. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/180792-rolling-update-rev-042116181/?p=1863147 Here it is for those that are like the old me. -
..::I NEVER SEARCH FOR LOOT IN THESE BUILDINGS::..
muddyraccoon replied to Upstart2010's topic in Gallery
You should have put buildings like: - The Corner Cafe with no Doors (Terrible, nothing there ever) - House with one yellow exterior wall and perhaps blue shutters (No food, drink, weapon. Just Awful) - 2 story houses, like ones with a piano on the main floor (Tacky decoration, no loot, just instant respawn) - Military buildings (Military guys are effiecient, and they have packed up everything and moved out. Sorry) - New Buildings with Circular room on top and cop cars out front (I believe these are Astronomy towers with Donut shops on the main floor, so stay away unless you like DayZ Stargazing, which you don't so stay away) So I guess everyone should stick to Elektro, most of the loots are in the town proper, and are spread out over the streets. Everyone go there... (god I hope this works) -
Dragonbreath rounds? About as unrealistic as you can get, unless we can mine magnesium (<- JOKE! I do not want professions. But all the same, stun weapon? It's a cool idea. Though I just want to use the crossbow.

If you ever use Comic Sans, or Papyrus, it should be used on your tombstone as well. "Here Lies a Man With, Admittedly, No Taste"
