i had thought i had lost a 40 hour old character to the log out timer (turns out it was a server error of some kind as i got him back) But even thinking i had died to it did i want it removed ?? Nope till someone suggests something better id like to keep it , hell id make the current one longer but thats just me..

OK well i guess this thread can be closed as well the case became even stranger (most likely a server issue which puzzles me has been a great sever_) I logged into another server and bang my old character is alive hiding in the bush where i left off....) should have tried that sooner but it has been my only server i have played on in 2 weeks or more...

LOL hell in hand basket australia server, it just seemed strange was all i was hiding in a bush after about 2 min of scanning the area . Yeah i know rough area had just spent a while watching the airfield for server hoppers (not from that spot lol from another that allows me to seee most of the traffic in and out of arifield so i can be 70% sure when you appear in there with zeds still intact you logged in there ,i see you walk in i dont shoot let you go about your buisness.....( hey shoot me i hate server hoppers lol someone might have done just that.. Its first time dying or wiped when i didnt Know what has happened when i have been killed in past i just respawn etc so there is new character in menu.. so have 0 experience in this...

LOL my fault after leaving the army i took to may forms of hand to hand combat and yes even some weapons based ones so passionate about the idea... In a fair fight i feel something is better than another but as pointed out who wants a fair fight when your life is on the line.... True there is nothing tactical in using a device such as this but nuclear weapons eg weapons of mass destruction etc do these exist?? i was forced to go to iraq as part of Australian aid to america in the 90s (not that you needed it trust me i know) but the point is nuclear beats artillery your own example of an atomic bomb shows it ( proud your the only country to use weapons of mass destruction??? I have offered you the chance to test your theory on swords vs hammer if you believe it to be the hammers favour why not try it out( yes i know the whole death thing how about i use a kendo stick as substitute and you can use a wicker made hammer with proper protective gear... Actually due to the shortish nature of a katana yes actually i could, if you can swing a hammer i have room to draw slash a katana Any weapon wins in a surprise attack so um thats just plain stupid and yes in open you can shoot a gun yeah thats not melee so no you lose... PS id be happy to find any type of sword or be able to make a spear.. they would be easier ( not a katana i just used that as it was the mentioned weapon russians have swords to) to find in chernarus than a colt python would but we must add american weapons so YOU have something to DROOL over

what the hell where have you stored your brains currently is artillery a melee weapon no so whats your point when we are debating melee.... Strange vikings threw them romans threw them ( granted they were slightly different ) but basicly a spear just weighted better... But i dont doubt your standing maces where used alot in a period when what people wore armour making stabing and slashing weapon not very usefull when armour stopped because of bullets even thouse from a musket the effectiveness of sword and spear was whatt the main stay didnt see mother fuckers running around the battle with a hammer or mace ( well you might of lol but it was not the common choice.. So yes put armour on a zed or a person ill take a blunt bludgeoning weapon no armour give me a slashing or stabbing weapon thats faster to use again i am happy to face YOU WITH A HAMMER OR MACE WITH A KATANA unless your wearing armour........

yes id take a spear before a hammer easy to make relatively easy to use to keep someone at bay with and hell at a risk ( with sword as back up weapon ) usefull to throw and kill a target at range... the debate of which weapon is best does depend greatly what you are fighting eg armours fighting styles is it one on one in groups etc.. But a carpenters hammer or a sledge hammer ( i prefer the 12 pounder myself) did not become main stay weapons in these time periods because they were not the most effective as tactics and technology changed the way people fought changed hell the last effective melee weapon still used during the start of gun powder era was a bloody PIKE( still basicly a spear with some difference) not a sword definately not a hammer of any kind.. PS but they still kept and used SWORDS just the armies were made of musket and pike even through the victorian age the use of sword ( only cause not practtical in day to day terms carry a spear.)

The zeds in this game are not undead so the very useful slash that kills a man will kill these zeds.. i dont need to cleave your head of to kill you merely opening your leg so you cant stand you will bleed to death or i can choose to finish you at my leasure... Again any of your pro hammers being best answer the question i havee asked 2 times now why did medievil and earlier cultures prefer to use spear and sword rather than hammer they had hammers ( and some did use a sledge hammer style weapon very VERY rare) specially as there lives dependeed on it a sword is harder to make than a hammer wouldnt it be easier if there so effective to have armed your men with hammers.......

Never said they were the best weapon made they are rendered near useless on a man in medievil chainmail coat but against a hammer 10 pounder ( hey i run a fencing company do fences for the mines want a job always need a good strone guy for the heavy stuff lol ) very VERY effective again where hammers used in medievil combat why yes where they widely used in comparison to say swords and spears nope. So tell me why cultures who needed melee wwarfare used spears and swords rather than hammers usually ???

a huge heavy slow combersome weapon that assuming you still have the strength to wield it from lack of food would most likely have gotten you killed from the very lack of speed ( in talking to a fast moving infected zed as we ment to have in regards to dayz..( again are we talking a sledge or smaller hammer thaqt im not sure on i got the feeling you ment a sledge hammer if you ment a smaller single hammer then gone is your range and you cant hit multiple opponents in one swing guess what with the katana i can .. But granted if i last years this type of sword may become un effective to but its not as hard as you suggest to maintain only if you wish to maintain it in show condition animal fat works fine for rust protection and a stone with a flat edge will do for sharpening.. I dont doubt the killing power of a sledge hammer or a smaller hammer merely its NO WHERE NEAR AS EFFECTIVE as demonstrated by my willingness to face you with a hammer with a katana and you could be 7 foot tall and built like a brick shit house and that would only make my job of disabling and killing that much easier not harder... Edit no debate on the hammer easier to find you wish to debate the ability of the katana i dont see it and could physically prove it if your willing but NO doubt MUCH HARDER to find in that way the idea fits dayz doesnt it the rare loot is usually the effective ones but again i would use the chinese sword( a real one) as its proximity to russia makes it more feasible but less cool so for cool id still go the katana its a small jump compared to what is already in game....

Have you done any reading on the topic its a long sword that is brittle hell before they learnt to temper steel they were very brittle... I wont argue with you as it is rather pointless you would need to know what your talking about sorry break or crack that is the very reason they use folded steal a method used today in modern combat knives it makes them very durable and unlikely to break even when used to pry open things. I suggest you watch some stuff of kendo to see how there weapons were used ( sure they are using wooden version they not trying to kill each other... Edit although yes they do require a certain level of care to maintain the weapon and yes prolonged fights wehre not the norm sure as it was a skilled fight with a deadly weapon that kills far more effectively than your crude sledge hammer ( which agreed would be much easier to find NO DOUBT) dont believe me i welcome you to come try it out with me i take no responsibilty for loss of limb though.... Good thing the samurai didnt decide on there weapon of choice after a night of drinking with there mates aye...

I own a sword made in japan in the traditional method folded steal 1000 plus times it becomes an extremely durable weapon ( cost me 3400$ so not cheap ) id very happily head into a zed apoc with this weapon as my back up melee and trust me in the hands of even a semi skilled wielder it would be one hit and your dead. Your cheap decorative sword could be sharpened and would also be reaonable deadly but for like 1 or 2 encounters lol a true katana could last you your life time your sons and his sons etc a little sharpening andd your good to go... they are not a thrust weapon at all the design is purely slashing a slashing that will cleave head from shoulders come at me with your hammer first strike to your arms ( hard to block with a hammer ) the second slash will end your life.. But yes not as likely to find in russia but the chinese make similar weapons( not the knock offs but there own traditional made swords slightly different but made with much the same method only slightly inferior) and um ya know how close china is rightt?? PS not made for sword fighting like the movies so what did samurai just hang there swords on the wall to look at a culture derived on honor and mastery of the sword oh now when two of these guys got together who were under different shoguns oh hell no they would never have a sword fight would they that be silly right.....

yeah i can roll with this once we start finding guns that are not pristine the ability to fix them to a working state. Id still use a bow for range until yes i could get my broken or even makeshift gun going ( probably still use bow for hunting animals as arrows are easier than bullets to make. But i am all for any add ons to the game that are realistic/authentic and fit a survival game thats not at heart a straight war game...

I voted no why? i mean yes in real life you would need to sleep but you would find you would adapt a very light sleeping method that allows you to wake up at noises also you would gather people to stand guard while you sleep ( and when fighting starts you would wake up ). Now you can say well make friends who will guard you um yeah ok they would need to be in different time zones to be playing while you sleep meaning bad pings you would sleep in much shorter shift sleeps. This is not really viable we have real lives to .. We cant make or barricade safe places yet and again even when we can we would wake up if they were being broken into in real life with this we would not.. Basicly the arguement its realistic is if you look at it very un realistic. As ex military i have had to sleep in dangerous places situations its light sleep lol and its guarded sleep where i can wake and aid in returning fire with this i can not....

KOs will always be part of the game but many complain about it but then do it themselves... Make a stand if your against it try to make contact (again stalking helps this greatly its a usefull survival skill) make contact from a position of advantage and engage convo.. Be firm but not aggressive dont tell them to drop there gun as many reluctant as server restart cleans it away tell them to shoulder it. Stay talking to there back they soon realize hey he aint robbing me he aint cuffing draining my blood and feeding me rotten food he could have shot me.. Once that kicks in a little trust ( and i mean A LITTLE) get better at reading people but dont hesitate to kill them if ANYTHING seems suss. Long pauses in them talking shoot them ( most likely on team speak communicating with others) they keeping moving even only small bits shoot( they are either trying to position for a break away or a attack from cover or are just plain nervous a nervous animal is dangerous( at this point of convo they should no longer be nervous they know your not robbing killing or degrading them. From there make your choices let go try trade live or die by your choices... You might find it more fun than click click yeah killed him and trust me it will still end with you killing a fair few people maybe you wont like it is it a hard way to play yes.. But if more people tried it tthis way survivours would group together a little more and the wheunis style players of the game would have a much MUCH harder time why cause when you get friendly you make friends eventually and heck one day you do as in the mod get a large group together and take back the major cities make them semi safe zones even if only for a few hours. PVP on that scale good vs evil is about as much fun as it can get but thats just IMHO

Oh god cant wait for rocket to start turning down weapon and ammo spawns its going to be funny to see what the pure KOS players do when they have troubles finding all the guns and ammo. Hell they may have to interact (more likely go on suicide runs with fists melee or any improvised weapon they can but hey even that gives you a chance to talk to them before you or them go... This is from a person who doesnt die often or easily my current life is 40 hours strong and going ( hey could die instantly next log in) i am a stalker spot you watch you see what you do engage convo from behind you and i got to say the amount of guys who just auto try turn to shoot funny really funny hell you might live more and KILL me more if you were smart enough to string a few words together...
