How to use the search function.

Thanks for creating a thread in this sub-forum reminding everyone to use this forum Search Function. I’m surprised a Moderator haven't got around to doing that yet and then stickied it. Instead of listing all the things you feel are Dead Horses, you could have given some more detailed advice on “How to use the Search Function” Tool more effectively, like clicking on the Advanced Search button beside the search box, then beside “Match” choose “Search in Titles”, and beside “Find in forum” choose “General Discussion”, so that people will stop creating duplicate threads in this sub-forum. I do have to take issue with you on the Killing on Sight topic though. As it’s an outright fallacy that it’s a dead horse and that Rocket or the devs don’t care about this issue. A quick google search will show you that the devs are spending a lot of their time and effort trying to come up with new and clever ways to discourage KoS, by implementing new gameplay mechanics to make KoS less likely. :) Some examples are: More complex & authentic Hunger, Thirst & Health mechanics. Killing other players damages their gear. Handcuffing. Physical actions like Waving, Surrendering, Sitting, Lowering Weapons. Improve Zombie AI. And here’s a few of quotes on the KoS topic: “The humanity system is on pause until we do the alpha. So the game is fundamentally changed in so many ways, going right back to basics, that we want to see how the players play it before we fool around with a lot of this stuff. Like, there’s a lot of new stuff like now you can play gestures using the function keys and in fact the F7… F8 to F12 is reserved for facial gestures, so we want to see what this entails and how player behaviour changes. So we’ll be gathering a lot of data while people are playing, in the database, and then use that and then look at it. I think humanity needs to be a lot more subtle than it is now. And hopefully also with the introduction of this new antagonist — which is the environment, effectively, and your health — I think there’s going to be a lot more reasons for people to interact. Not necessarily positively interact! But certainly neutrally.” - http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/06/dayz-fans-sent-us-questions-for-the-games-creator-we-asked-them-all/ “Dean 'Rocket' Hall: The mechanism needs to be authentic, whatever it is. I think it is more a matter of giving more options to the players rather than punishing or rewarding particular player styles. Currently the only real challenge when you get good at the game, is to hunt other players. So we need to give more challenges, more tools, to the world.” - http://www.eurogamer.de/articles/2012-08-06-dayz-interview-mit-lead-designer-dean-rocket-hall?page=2 “One of the biggest debates about DayZ the mod (and its inevitable standalone) is the unfortunate situation of killing other players on sight. Dean “Rocket” Hall, the lead designer of DayZ has talked to great lengths about ways they plan to address KOS and how they have mechanics and features in place to “discourage” players from instantly pulling the trigger (or swinging the axe) after encountering another player. “ - http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Why-Killing-Sight-Important-DayZ-59466.html “Upon tackling a more sensitive matter of players killing on sight, Dean Hall believes that the new item damage system will discourage players from doing so.” - http://dayzblog.net/news/people-2/ So could people please stop going on about Killing on Sight being a Dead Horse, and instead try to discuss authentic and balanced ways to discourage Killing on Sight in a more constructive manner. :beans: And please use both this Forums and Googles search functions, m’kay.

Zombies as a cure for KOS

Another two ways that Zombies can help alleviate the KoS epidemic in this game are: 1. - Zombies hearing need to be just as good as our hearing. When they hear any non-ambient noise, they should come running/shambling to investigate the area they heard the noise coming from. This will create far more paranoia and tension in the game, where players will have to try and be as quite as possible at all times, and will also make players think twice before firing their very loud guns. I also think that all firearms should be a lot louder in this game, so that they are more risky to use in terms of giving your location to away to Zombies and other players. 2. - Zombies should be able to smell fresh blood. This would mean that when a player injures or kills another player, any Zombies in the area will be attracted to the smell of the blood. This will also make the game far more interesting, where we will most likely have to fight off Zombies while we try to loot the corpse of a freshly killed player. Also if you were injured in the fight you would need to bandage yourself up quickly to stop the Zombies from knowing your location from the smell of your blood. It would also make for some fun and exciting moments when two or more players are going at each other with melee weapons, which would most likely attract a horde of Zombies to the party from all the bloodshed. LMAO! Well played Troll.... well played. You had me going there for a while, but your retarded Straw Man arguments and cheering picking of quotes gave you away. GG. ;) I know you were just playing the Straw Man Semantics game, but in case you didn't know, the words “authentic” & “simulation” mean basically the same thing in this context of gaming. Both pertaining to mean an as realistic as possible game. In hindsight I should have directly quoted the devs description of the game in its entirety and not shortened it down for easy reading. Also thanks for this link (Do you see it as a simulation game?), where Rocket is talking about a new Mountaineering game that he is planning on developing. I’m not totally sure why you posted that link in regards to this thread, but I will make sure not to mistake that game for a simulation. If you are this threatened in regards to my idea of Zombies being able to detect (smell) you a bit more easily with each successive kill, and feel that it is arbitrary punishment if you manage to survive more than an hour, then that says a lot about how you play this game. I’m guessing that you probably play with a Goody-Goody Super Psychic Fantastic Group, that uses TeamSpeak and go around killing the majority of other players you come across, amirite? At the moment the only people getting arbitrarily punished in this game via the gameplay mechanics are the Carebears, and that’s because the only real significant threat in this game is KoS players like you and me. It looks like the devs are working on trying to discourage KoS, by making it that gear is damaged when you kill another player, and by creating more complex Hunger, Thirst and Health systems. So why not also work on making the Zombies more complex and significant a threat as to give the Z in DayZ true meaning? By not just Killing on Sight when you come across someone and using other means to deal with the situation does take more effort and intelligence, where you either: A) Try and communicate with them (maybe group up with them. B) Try and determine if they are a threat or not. C) Keep an eye on them and evade their sight while you loot the area. D) Run away and miss out on the loot the other player is taking making things more difficult for yourself. E) Maybe something else entirely. Right now it’s – I see another player = bang! Or I see another player = axe them in the face! But I do admit that I’m not sure if it’s easier to kill another player on sight compared to eating a can of beans at sunset. As you first have to find the beans and then you have to wait for sunset, which can be difficult to survive that long if it’s night time when you decide to do this momentous challenge. And there is also a good chance you might get killed by another player when your full attention is on both admiring this wondrous sunset and clicking your mouse button multiple times to get your toon to eat the damn beans. :beans: I didn't say CoD is “dumb”. What I said was that compared to what DayZ is supposed to be (according to the devs), then yes CoD is a dumbed down style of gameplay in comparison. Which is one of the reasons it’s such a successful a game. Those that want a more intelligent realistic/authentic/simulation shooter experience would play ARMA. Nice cheery picking there bud. But what I said was “I’d assume that most people that play DayZ are like me and also believe that it needs to be a “gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game, in which players follow a single goal: to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can.” Going by this statement I know that at least the devs agree with me, and are working to try and meet this ideal. Currently this game is just basically an “open-world MMO free for all shooter.” This game could be a lot more than that, and I believe the devs are trying to make this game a much more immersive and rewarding experience. Exactly! How can you form a group in game if most people are killing each other on Sight? So a lot of people who are having a hard time surviving end up organizing a group outside of the game, which of course breaks the immersion and authenticity. I was just listing the things that go against the goal of DayZ being a: “gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game, in which players follow a single goal: to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can.” And if these things were balanced/fixed then this game would be so much better.... in my very very humble opinion. Now check my middle finger and go away Troll. ^_^

People over exaggerate KOS so much.

I'd really like to know how much gear were you carrying in these 30 encounters? <_< If you were had a gun, backpack or axe I would say most of us would have killed you on sight, and it would not have mattered how much you yelled out friendly. 90% of other players I meet I kill on sight, as that's currently the easiest and less frustrating way to play this game unfortunately. Hopefully the devs can come up with some clever gameplay mechanics to help discourage KoS, or else this game is going to get boring rather fast for most of us. :emptycan:

Zombies as a cure for KOS

"DayZ is a gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hyrid-MMO game, in which players follow a single goal: to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can." - http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/153735-frequently-asked-questions/ So yes, it is a "post apocalyptic zombie survival simulation". My suggestion to make Zombies be able to detect (smell) players that kill other survivors a little more easily won't stop people playing the way they choose to play, it just gives more incentive to play the game intelligently, with more skill and therefor emersion. It's a far better gameplay mechanic than making KoS Bandits look like terrorists, or many other suggestions I've seen in regards to dealing with the KoS issue. I also have no problem with CoD or CoD players, it's a nice fun and very casual game to play. What I have a problem with is that this game is being dumbed down to that level of gameplay. I'd assume that most people that play DayZ are like me and also believe that it needs to be a "gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hyrid-MMO game, in which players follow a single goal: to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can." Currently this game has a long way to go to meet this criteria unfortunately . By the way I like your suggestions you have made in the link in your signature. They would also change the game in a more positive way, by encouraging us to play a bit differently compared to the way we currently are. At the moment the best/easiest way to play this game is to: Kill on Sight Play in a group Use third person Combat Log Server Hop to Farm Loot and outflank other players Ghost Enable Very High Quality Clouds at night ^ Just imagine how great this game would be if these issues were dealt with in a balanced way that makes most people happy (except for the Trolls & Griefers). :beans:

Zombies as a cure for KOS

Thanks for the constructive reply. The point of my background story was to make it far less supernatural and more scientific reason for the Zombie outbreak, and also a more natural reasoning for the Zombie/Infected gameplay mechanic that I proposed. Rabies do turn animals (like dogs for example) into the equivalent of Zombies, so a mutated strain could do the same to humans, and that was the premise of the movie 28 Days Later. Also Certain Pheromones do cause many animals to become super aggressive, so why not infected humans? I wasn't really meaning to so much to punish Kill on Sight players, but to implement a gameplay mechanic to balance things out, so that people don't just go around killing almost everyone they see. This Zombies being able to smell your aggressive pheromones will just be more of a hindrance to most skilled bandits, it definitely won't make it harder than playing as a Carebear, and will also make the game more challenging and enjoyable for everyone (except for Trolls and Griefers). My idea is all about balancing the positives and negatives of being an outright Carebear compared to a KoS bandit, so that people will weigh up these positives and negatives whenever they come across another player and to decide if it's worth killing them or not. Also the other main reason I brainstormed this idea is that I am a KoS Bandit. Basically 90% of other players I come across I attempt to kill, as that's always been the most easiest and less frustrating way to play this game. :D Rocket wanted this game to be a post apocalyptic zombie survival simulation, not CoD. Zombies as a cure for KOS

Why not? If it improves the game for the majority of us then it must be a good thing. Right now those at do not KoS are punished, and as it currently stands KoS is easy mode DayZ. What's so ridiculous about my suggestion?

Zombies as a cure for KOS

Check out my post in regards to this thread: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/157541-kos-general-what-to-do-how-to-fix/?p=1578475  Each time you kill another player the Zombies/Infected are more and more easily able to detect you and from further distances. This will mean that KoS Bandits will have Hordes of Zombies/Infected attacking them whenever they enter a highly Zombie/Infected populated area of the map. Which will make the game more fun for everyone..... but maybe not for the Trolls & Griefers.
