Thing you want to see added/fixed the most?

Speaking of fixing the sounds, those random zombie noise place holders are really annoying. I realize they won't be there forever, but come on, I'm starting to hear them in my sleep.

    Why everyone is soo unfriendly?

My usual playing style is the silent stalker type. I prefer to play alone and leave people alone. My rush comes from doing things as closely to other players as possible without getting caught. Almost every time I play, I make it a point to enter one of the bigger buildings while another player is in there looting and not get caught. Having said that, without the fear of the KoS'ers, we'd all just be holding hands, skipping down Main street in Cherno, collecting up all the loot and sharing our beans. Like KoS'ers or not, they do make the game more intense and fun, especially since it only takes about 30 minutes of game play before you lose all respect for the zombies.

    a suggestion and a question

I agree, the way it's SUPPOSED to work is whatever you dropped should stay till a server restart, but because this is the alpha, it might not be perfect. As for the spawning, I kinda feel the same way Aussie does, I think that could be exploited to give certain people an unfair advantage. If I have to survive long enough, and walk far enough, to get to the NW airfield, so should everyone else, not just spawn there because their friends are there.

Have been looking for 4 days...

I'm sure the server hoppers are the first people to claim their KoS mentality is due to boredom from there not being anything to do in the game yet. I don't mind searching for days for the pistol mag, it keeps me from getting bored, it also gives my characters life meaning.

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad

Hahaha! Well, now that you've used your big boy words and have intelligently articulated your opinion in an adult manner, I totally agree with you.

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad

What's the matter, is Call of Duty too hard for you? As for your choices, if the game "forces" you to play a certain way, how are so many people NOT playing the way you do? Do voices in your head "force" you to do things also?

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad

Not sure what you're talking about when you say "DayZ will never work as such", but trust me, by the time the game reaches retail release, the zombies will be a MUCH larger threat than they are now. There will be far more of them and they won't be as easy to beat / evade. They're already more of a threat than they were in the mod. I realize there will still be people who don't care, but those people will eventually quit when it becomes "too hard" for them to continue playing as they do today because they're too busy battling zombies, they didn't come here to play a zombie apocalypse game.

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad

I agree with this. This is a ZOMBIE apocalypse, not an "everyone that survived the apocalypse" apocalypse. IRL, I think people would be far more fearful of the zombies and would seek out other uninfected humans to help them survive, if for no other reason than there is strength in numbers. The worst thing to do to a person in a zombie apocalypse would be to kick them out of the community, leaving them to fend for themselves.

How do you prepare to log off?

Some times I like to go back to the coast, grab a new spawn, make him swap everything with me (except my pistol) so I look like a new spawn and he starts fully geared, then log off on the beach. When I log back in and a bandit tries to hold up the new spawn, out comes the pistol... "SURPRISE MOTHER TRUCKER"!!!! Killed at least 3 bandits this way so far. The biggest trash talker that I took down, squealed like a little girl on comms when I pulled out the pistol, it was amazing.

    A compilation of good ideas

... So you tell the OP to go play another game until he gets a few positive responses and then suddenly you like his idea(s)? I guess your plan to lead the attack fell apart eh? About the ideas: Tape recorder - I don't really have a strong opinion on that one. Might be fun / funny for a while, but it would lose it's shine pretty quick I'd guess. Skills - as a lone wolf player, as long as players aren't limited to only one skill, I'm fine with this too. Cuffs - I actually like the way they're implemented right now. As a bandit, you don't have the luxury of just cuffing someone and then letting your guard down, I prefer that. Blood types - I agree, knowing your in game blood type from the start would be nice. Or at a minimum, replace one of the bandages in a med kit with a tester. That way you have everything you need for the transfusion in one place (other than the disifectant).

    getting BLOOD bags from Hospitals

I have found quite a few first aid kits and NONE of them have ever had a saline bag in it. They have 2 bandages, water purification pills, an empty blood bag, an IV start kit and a syringe.

Silly KOSer (just one, not all of you)

I had a guy TRY to KoS me, then combat logged today. I was coming down the steps of the tech building / jail in the NE airfield and he was walking in the front door. He started hosing the building down with bullets while I aimed and put at least two in his chest. He quickly ducked back outside and combat logged. I couldn't care less about KoS'ers, I found the loot I have once, I'll certainly find it again. But combat loggers, they annoy me. Not because I can't loot ther dead body, I don't feel a sense of entitlement to their stuff, but because some times you don't actually know if they combat logged or not and you spend the next 15 minutes in tactical search & destroy mode, just to find out you've been wasting your time. I hate that, that's 15 minutes I could have used jogging to the next town. And now that all the n00bs have figured out ghosting, I move as soon as possible after each engagement.

There's gotta be some electricity in Chernarus, I've seen working street lights at night... unless you assume they're solar powered.

    What am I doing wrong?

The character most definitely will tell you when (s)he is full. (S)he'll say something like "my stomach feels really full". This will happen on both eating and drinking. If you only eat / drink till just after the indicator disappears, you'll be eating / drinking constantly and listening to your character complain the entire time. If you eat / drink till the character says they are full, you won't hear a peep about how (s)he's hungry / thirsty for at least an hour.

Played for an hour or so today and...

It's amazing how many tough guys wet their pants and log when the guns come out. Some times I like to bait the melee KoS'ers. With my m4 out, when they're approaching, I'll say something like "I'm friendly, I don't even have ammo so don't worry". Then when they come at me, BANG, shot in the face. It's not all bad though, I did that once to a guy who only had an axe and he offered me the m4 ammo he had found but didn't have a gun for. Even though I had over 200 rounds, I took his offering and gave 'em a can opener in return. Pretty fair trade I think.
  16. Since they implemented the death on log out while cuffed or unconscious, I think they should take it a step further, death to any player who logs out while bleeding. That'll stop a lot of the combat logging right there. As for the timer, I'm all for it, but a reasonable amount of time, 5 to 10 minutes I think is a little excessive.

I think a little of it would die down if they put in game names back on the players like in the mod. Without knowing who people are, there's no fear of repercussions.

    Survivor's Guide to DayZ SA

I learned that lesson the hard way, about them walking through walls. I had one chasing me, so I went in the back door of a house and out the front door, shutting it behind me. I stopped to admire my skills and to taunt the zombie about how I had just trapped him in the house, till he walked right through the door causing me to, one, soil myself and two, take off running while screaming back over my shoulder "I'm friendly bro, don't eat me". If you have a gun and multiple zombies aggroing on you, it's pretty easy to get a CoD style zombie train going behind you, which can be mowed down fairly quickly with just a couple of shots. You can clean out a whole town in one pass if you do it right, easy looting after that.

    Death By Fall Damage.

I'm on the "no ladder" diet as well. There is nothing at the top of any ladder in DayZ, that's worth dying for. Funny, with all the walking / jogging my character does, I'd think his legs would be a lot stronger.

    Survivor's Guide to DayZ SA

A couple of suggestions for brand new players: 1) Pick a low population server to start with. The less people there are on a server, the more likely you are to find loot and less likely to run into bandits right away. Get used to playing, looting and avoiding zombies, without all the competition. 2) When you first spawn and you start looting for food and drink, for efficiency purposes, skip any building with an open door, it's already been looted. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to get your first meal and not finding anything till you've searched numerous houses. Those buildings may not be completely empty, but if it's near a spawn point, they're likely void of anything you need, since some other new spawn has already been through there. 3) Until you're either really good at melee combat or you have an axe (preferably the fireman axe, but the splitting axe will do also), don't engage the zombies, you'll lose. You can easily out run them and after you've gotten far enough away from them, they'll give up.

    Bugged inside a house.

Wow, that first response was an awfully insightful and amazingly helpful answer. When that's happened to me, I've been able to do that vault / step over move back through the wall. I've had to stand there stepping over the invisible wall for a minute or two before he makes it out, but it's gotten me out a couple of times without having to log out. When they say "trust no one", that includes walls.

    What am I doing wrong?

Just an FYI, if you didn't figure it out yet, you can't blood bag yourself, another play has to give you the blood bag.

    combat logged

While I do understand some of the veterans frustration with reading a post about something "as old as the mod itself", this is the NEW PLAYER section of the Standalone forum, described as "A place for questions, guides and stories about your first experiences in DayZ Standalone". A little patience with the new players who are just now experiencing situations that you've dealt with since the dawn of time would be nice.

We saved a fresh spawn today. (Kross)

Interestingly, that "can't hear you, type" comm, is a common KoS'er way of getting you to take your hand off the mouse and leave your character vulnerable for a second. Just something to watch out for.

    combat logged

From what I heard in one of Rockets Q&A sessions, I think they're going to implement some sort of a monitoring system that will be able to detect if you're server hopping and have some sort of timer that will put you in a "time out". So if you've logged in and out of X number of servers within a certain amount of time, the next time you try to log on, you'll have to wait a certain amount of time. I know they put in a patch so that if you log out while unconscious, you die. They could go a step further and make it so that if you log out while bleeding, you die. That should deter a lot of combat logging right there. I can't think of a single situation where I couldn't at least bandage myself before legitimately logging off (unless my connection timed out).
