.55 is a step in the right direction imo but what I find funny is people defending stuff that is plainly wrong. At the moment, and eugen has confirmed this in the central loot economy thread, rare stuff like rangefinders can spawn in barns (and random houses) way more often than should happen. That's not a big deal at all but it's not how it'll be in 1.0 so saying it's fantastic is silly. Same with way too many silencers in the last release. There were way too many. It was silly. This thing where we pretend every version is perfect is as bad as where people pretend every version is the worst. Neither are helpful in any real way.
-
the economy is per server. "central" is a misnomer imo. Eugen explained over here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/223307-central-economy/

Smeone mentioned something similar to Eugen on twitter earlier and click on eugen's twitter to see the full thing I'm not sure how to show full conversation

If you are getting glitch hit the best thing to do is to get right up close to them. Ok you might get hit some more but at least you've got a chance of hitting them. The old circling tactic doesn't work. tbh I've been running or shooting zombies since the patch.
-
I found that is the most effective way to deal with them with a melee weapon. Ok you maybe take a hit or two but you at least kill them. People are still doing the circling thing and it's disastrous. All you do is guarantee you'll miss and be hit if you use that old tactic.
-
There's much more of them. They don't have radar any more. They are much tougher to kill. 2 body shots from an sks. 1 close shot from a sawn off. 1 shot from a mosin (untested.) They react to hits/shots and theirs friends will also react to gun shots.

It wouldn't make a jot of difference unfortunately. You should think of experimental as "your pc may burst into flames" and stable as "your pc probably won't burst into flames."

definite progress. I hated the circle in exp. but I think the team have nailed the new reticule. it's not intrusive at all. The zombies are a huge improvement too. I love persistence but I hate the whole concept of a central loot economy. The soviet union were the last to attempt that and that didn't work out too well. (I'm not being entirely serious with the last comment but I'm also not totally joking.)

Haven't read all the replies but I'd suggest the op stay away from public shards. I moved from 3p public to 1p private at christmas and one big difference was where people hang out and what they do. I play on oldschooldayz and most of the action seems to be in the nwaf and surrounding areas. In fact, every mil area is a pvp fest. Many towns just near to mil bases are the same e.g. stary. I very rarely see the stupid no pant+broom combo running around anywhere.

I switched from exp to stable today. I couldn't see any friends in a server that I knew they were there and when I went to join their server I got a message saying battleye is updating..may take a while. but after that I was able to join them. if you contact battleye they'll help. sorry i couldn't help

reboot your computer and then go into game properties and verify cache. you might have to reboot an other time after that but maybe not. other than that check be is allowed through your firewall.

runs like a dream for me. I used to avoid the apartment blocks north of cherno because of unlivable fps but I've just run through there with no issues. Have to say I hate the circle though. I love the dot because most of the time you don't see it. Probably the circle will be great in those times when you lost the dot (and I often do) but we need to have some sort of happy medium. Maybe have the dot until you are looking at an item and then change to the circle? I don't know but I do know having the circle on screen constantly is annoying. Obviously, I understand this is a process and the circle isn't the final thing but it's annoying as hell to suddenly have this screen furniture in a game that I thought was about having a clean, unfussy interface. Suspect right shoulder button will be roll to the right pretty soon.

Run towards the rock then disconnect your internet cable. Exit game. Reconnect and rejoin the game and you should be outside

My CPU is 180°F (85°C) HOT!
freethink replied to killerjustin (DayZ)'s topic in Technology/Programming
No help whatsoever to you but my laptop used to shut itself down after 30 mins when playing dayz. It's the ultimate pc stress test. I'm surprised more pcs don't burst into flames tbh. -
What's that saying "Don't blame the player, blame the..."? Seriously, this thing where people think none of us sickly pussies would have a problem if we just turned off headbob is laughable. It's not headbob etc. It's a result of the engine and jittering/low frames. Combine a low fov and a low fps and you'll get players getting motion sickness regardless of headbob. The reason it's less of an issue in third is because the brain can anchor onto the visible character on screen.
-
Most of my time playing 3rd person shooters I'm "I wish they made this as a first person shooter instead." There's some huge games that I played for less than an hour then gave up just because I hated the camera. So it's odd that dayz was such a struggle to play in first. I'd never heard of motion sickness from games before dayz but I found that a narrow fov combined with low/jittering fps almost guaranteed it. Happily I've managed to overcome it through tweaking my settings and buying new equipment so since christmas I've almost exclusively played first person. Before that I had to avoid certain cities and buildings (the tower blocks/any multistory stairs.) I don't know about the overall stats of people preferring 1st v 3rd person games in general but I know I'm an fps player will always pick first over third when possible but didn't, for whatever reasons, pick first in dayz. That's why I find it odd when I see all these threads about fixing 3rd. If you want people to play first don't just change third. Instead make first better.
-
It's impossible for us to judge from one static pic. Maybe invest the time in figuring out why so many people, like me, who generally prefer fps games ended up playing hundreds of hours in third. The horse may have bolted on changing third person imo.

Exp Update: 0.55.126884 Discussion
freethink replied to eugenharton's topic in PC Experimental Updates
If you are a freshspawn and try join the server before it's properly restarted there's a good chance of getting the vybor spawn. Last night a pal of mine was killed, respawned in novo, played for a minute or two before the server stopped then deliberately joined before the server had properly restarted and got the vybor spawn. He died naked at veresnik military base. RIP --------------- Back on topic, I only got to play for 30 mins before dayz went into a total death spiral of crashing every couple of minutes but it's already clear the new zombie ai is a game changer. I hate the aggro from 1k away currently in stable. -
to the guy i killed at Bolota ATC with 5 pelican cases full of ammo and grenades:

I've seen ads and people pay more for gear boxes than they pay for the game itself. Same with cheats. It's bizarre to me but I suppose we are living in an age where buying perks is normal enough. I'm amazed it's a viable business at all but it is. -
I think I might have a problem with shotguns...

I love the sawn* off at close quarters. I hate the pump. *aka 'sawed' (US, CAN) and in this game. -
Should I keep trying or just wait for the beta?
freethink replied to 1chainz's topic in Troubleshooting
I've spent more hours messing around with graphics settings/config files in bis games than I have beating other games. I think you should be able to run the games but you'll probably have to research the best settings for your machine. -
