Why do you "have" to feel bad for being a bandit/kos?
Zogvarn replied to Nesuma (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
These topics are got old really fast and have been discussed/argued/trolled/hammered/beaten for over a YEAR. So what is the problem exactly? Is it KOS or Bandits, because those are NOT the same thing? If it is KoS then there isn't anything going to be done about it by Rocket. Having the ability to KoS in SA adds a huge element of the unknown and tension to running into another player/s. Without that element this game becomes a running/collecting simulator. Do I condone KoS of all players all the time? No i do not. But knowing that it is possible makes me think a helluva lot more when running into a player about the possible scenario than if it wasn't or there was some indicator (bandit skin or whatever) like the beginning of the mod had. Here is the problem as I see it currently. Not all features are even in the game yet. We, as players, do not know how increasing the zed count with new AI will affect KoS. We don't know how an adjusted loot spawn system will affect KoS. Or how the new areas being added to the north will impact the game overall. Or the medical system or the etc, etc, etc. It is alpha folks. If you dont like the way KoS is currently in the alpha I have a couple suggestions to help you deal with it. 1. Get more than a kilometer away from the coast. For some reason the CoD kiddies have an aversion to moving that long without shooting/hitting someone. 2. By moving away from the coast realize once you pass the halfway part of the map players will generally be extremely experienced with DayZ. Avoid the airfields and mil spawn areas. Or if going there, get in and get the F-out fast. Just about every player I know that spends the majority of thier time up north assumes everyone is hostile until proven otherwise. Most players up north usually seek to avoid confrontation by being cautious, patient, and thinking ahead rathen than attacking everyone on sight. The exception is the military spawn areas like the airfields. Those are free fire zones. 3. Get some competent people to play with. 3-5 is usually an ideal group size imo. With those numbers you usually have an advantage and can take a few more chances with social interaction situations. -
<<<< [How to] Improve random player killing. >>>>
Zogvarn replied to Zeeb (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
So basically you want SA to turn into Epoch mod..no......no....No......NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
The bottom left indicators will tell you when you are full. The ones in inventory indicate when you need to eat or drink before something bad happens, like a warning system. So eat/drink until the bottom left says something like "my stomach is full/stuffed" Hospitals spawn loot just fine, always find something either on the second floor or the back rooms. And saline bags can be found in civilian houses with a first aid kit on the wall, the prison, and hospitals. They can also appear in the red first aid kits we can carry. Never had problems finding one to be honest.

probably a typo

The "zombies" are actually infected as per the mod. Rocket posted a long time ago how it was an infectious outbreak of some kind that lead to our current situation. But he kept the details close to his chest for obvious reasons. As for our characters themselves, iirc we are shipwreck survivors that washed up on Chernarus shore. If there was any more told/hinted at from the early days of the mod I dont remember sorry. Maybe another vet could chime in if I missed something?

Adding loot to apartment buildings
Zogvarn replied to roadlesstraveled's topic in General Discussion
There is loot on multiple floors in the same building yes. Searched one of them tonight and found: 50% water bottle, a few books, a pristine rotten kiwi (wtf?), 7.62 ammo, cooking pot, tuna, and a backpack. Forget when/where but rocket had mentioned that they lowered the chance for loot to spawn in those buildings due to the sheer amount of spawn points possible in one building alone. -
M4 does need its accuracy tweaked a bit. Even with a fully pristine M4 with an ACOG, the shots regularly go wide left/right from prone with a bipod inside even 100m and get worse the longer the distance. Tested mine earlier on a storage facility up north lying prone on the road at 100m, 200m, and 400m. Zeroing was set to 100m and ranges based on the range guide inside the ACOG sight itself. You know those short horzontal lines underneath the crosshairs. They are actually the width of the shoulders of a target standing at those ranges. Love me some ACOG. The farther the distance the more shots went left or right. (no pattern detected) It needs to be tweaked.

OP: Nice feedback. Eskel: Hopefully they will not have nearly as many vehicles spawned at once as the mod had. It cheapened the game overall when as a group you could have 3-4 trucks, a bus, 4-5 atvs, a couple helos, 3-4 cars, and a few motorcycles. Also, the tents are not needed. Takes the survival aspect of the game out of the equation. Hell, the group I play with used to hunt tent cities down by chopper, raid those tents, then set up ambushes for the owners. It was fun sure, but once you get a tent you no longer worry about getting gear cause you know you can get what you had back as soon as you get to your tent.

Move inland and check for loot as you go. Personally I like to head to the north east section of the map as a new spawn. No one, except vets, usually go there and most of the loot is untouched. Berezino is a nice area to get geared up regardless of what a lot of people say. From there you can hit the NE AF to get a M4 and other military supplies. Avoid Cherno/electro/balota. Its just a KOS fest and usually the loot is gone within 30 minutes of a server restart in most easy to get areas there. Also, if you are a fresh spawn try hitting a night time server. You probably wont find much at the mil spawn areas, but the rest of the gear you need is plentiful most times. I'm only advocating this due to the lack of loot respawning at this time. Server hopping in mil areas just to get military gear over and over again is just wrong. Find a night server and move from town to town around the map. It really isnt that bad.
-
Also, try going to the NEast AF instead of making the NWest run. Few people venture out east and most of the buildings/towns wont have been looted. Usually when I hit the NE AF it has a couple of weapons there even if someone has looted it before me. Also, there is a cargo ship crashed on the coast north of Berezino. It spawns weapons and gear as well. It is also cool as hell to see and explore. Check it out.

Coming from a different survivor story, tell me the story of DayZ...
Zogvarn replied to Simmal (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Can you help me with a couple of questions: DayZ seems a lot "slower" than my old game, all movements are done in "real" speed. Is this supposed to be like this? I actually like it, it's more strategic than Quake-like... 1. Yes Dayz is slower paced. Think of it as a simulation instead of a COD style FPS. I died once, than I stayed of the path till I found a really awesome spot (the military base south of Pavlovo in the South West) and well I guess because of my old game experience... I just log in there, roam the area, play there for a while (I'm not server hopping, cause I can't carry any more) and than log out after a while. I am pretty sure that's not how it's ment to be... But I am thinking, why going somewhere else if I have everything here. In a "real" Survival Situation I would do the very same thing. Secure my area and stay put as long as it's useful. 2. If you want to secure an area like that and patrol the perimeter to keep it secure go for it! This is a sandbox game you can do whatever you want within the game engines limits. Some people help new players, other play medics. Still more play "bandits" or bad guys. Hell some people even create "police forces" to counter the "bandits". These are just some ideas. Personally I'm a survivalist. I help when I think it wont put me in too much danger and eliminate any threats to myself or my group. I die, I loose everything, no global inventory, only way are the tents which are not ingame yet but everyone has acces to them. So even the best DayZ Players have to start from scratch with their flashlight when they die? 3. Correct Spawning... I die and do I spawn close to my point of death? Or just randomly on the coastline? How can you meet with friends? I mean if you always spawn somewhere... It takes me hours just to run to that point, given the fact I dont starve / get killed before? How can I persuade my mates to get into DayZ because we actually can play together? 4. Random respawn usually on coast. Getting together initially with friends is problematic due to not knowing the map. After experience though it isnt such a big deal. I like to think of trying to meet up initially as an adventure. When someone in our group dies, meeting up again is more like a rescue operation for those that respawned. Make it fun. A fully skilled character in the old game with all protection gear was able to tank like 20 shots of an M4 without using any meds... The guy I killed here dropped after 1 or 2 within my first burst in his direction? It would be awesome if this is normal, but just wanted to make sure?! 5. This is normal for now. Clothing/gear does give some damage mitigation it seems, but nothing unrealistic. As more gear/weapon options get implemented things will change. I highly doubt though it will ever be like "that other game". I know which one you mean :) I actually have to find a map / compass every single time for navigation? How long do you have to play along the coast line, that you know where you are when you spawn and know where to go? That might take months mh? 6. Doesn't really take long to become familiar with the terrain of certain areas. The sun/stars are accurate btw and can be navigated by their positions. The sun is slightly off though from straight East/West as is appropriate for the latitude of Chernarus IRL. The map posted by other is extremely helpful for new and old players alike. I am absolutely happy about this game so far, it's so much more exciting... But well because of my old game as I said, I am scared for my Char... I don't wanna run around, stay put and shoot everything that comes to my new home... 7. My advice would be too go explore the whole map the first few times you respawn. Especially if you have a decent backpack, an axe, and a water bottle. After all, the gear you have is only borrowed cause EVERYONE dies eventually and has to start over :) -
A few ways: try them in this order. Easiest is to be given a saline kit by another player. Taking antibiotics usually clears it up also. Try using alcohol tincture on yourself (don't drink it) to clean wounds you might have sustained. It will say you are sick for a little while, but you get messages that your wounds are feeling better. Then they heal up and the sickness goes away.

Cannot get rid of the yellow thirst icon...
Zogvarn replied to Owain1122's topic in General Discussion
Might be bugged for some people but not all. My group and I never have problems reaching the "stomach is full" message for both food and water. Yes it takes a LOT of food/water to reach that point, more than the previous patches. Last night I got the first hungry message. It took me almost eight, EIGHT, full cans of beans/spaghetti to reach the full point for food. After that a full canteen to get the full message for water. So yes its still possible. -
Server Hopping, DayZ Top Experience Ruining Factor.
Zogvarn replied to Ducard's topic in General Discussion
Hate server hoppers myself. Friend and I were playing on a night server earlier having a blast with the increased tension moving from south of the NW AF to the prison just north of the NWAF, then continuing over to Berezino and the ship. All the mil spawns had been looted that we ran across. WE kept an eye out of the players on the server. Usually no more than 5-6 at most due to it being almost pitch black. Saw what seemed to be a lot of server hoppers given that a number of times we saw what were flashlights at the mil spawns then nothing. No one was there. No one left the area. Its already getting bad and is taking the fun out of traveling around the map to various spawn areas looking for good gear. Think I'll just start camping those areas on night servers. Bag me some hoppers and get my upgraded loot that way :) -
The game needs a bandit system/rewards for being either good or bad
Zogvarn replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Just say no to a "Hero/Bandit" reward system and save a kitten. -

For me and my crew the rare items are press vest, blood test kit, walkie-talkie, and the pistol magazines. We have yet to find any of those.
-
Time Alive (Current Character) Longest Time Survived Zombies Killed Shots fired Accuracy Percentage Kilometers walked Those stats look good. Anything related to strictly pvp can be left out imo. All it does is promote a KoS environment. Now I do pvp and often KoS, but I'm rarely in new spawn areas spending most my time in the north and east. So usually my prey, and that of my group, are well geared seasoned players.
-
There aren't any ballistic vest in the game yet. The ones you see are just for carrying gear, though they do add some damage mitigation. And being shot in the back, especially lower back, is usually worse than being shot in the upper chest. Lower back area has kidneys, intestines, bladder, etc etc. It also lacks protections from the ribcage.

1. Hospitals mostly, first aid kits sometimes, houses very rarely 2. Use the blood bag with an IV kit (drag one on top of the other) and take blood from someone. Saline kits are currently much better than bloodbags as they restore full health, full food/drink, and seem to cure illnesses. Blood bags only restore some health and require the same blood type to be effective (just like IRL). 3. Answered already and there isn't a use for it currently it seems. Use antibiotics to cure most sicknesses. Charcoal tabs work if you eat something rotten. So do not eat food that is labeled "rotten". If you notice that you seem to be moaning for a long time, over 2 hours, use morphine to get rid of the moaning. Usually though the moaning will go away after a little while if you just get high levels of food/drink, but sometimes not hence the morphine use. Also, sometimes if you eat fruit you get a message that your mouth is feels funny/numb. I was told epinephine will work for this, but havent tested it myself so might just be rumor.

I would be ok with more damage per hit, but less chance of a bleed. With that said though, I don't think bleeding is an issue really. You bleed out slower in SA than the mod it seems. And rags are easy to come by by making them from shirts. And yes you can take your own shirt off and make it into rags.

As a vet and old school gamer, let me tell all you guys whining for a tutorial something. All you need to learn the controls is listed in esc>configuration> assignable. If it is too difficult to figure out reading and making some notes on a piece of paper, or god forbid a cutout keyboard overlay, then you are the problem. As for the rest I will leave you a little something from another game that has an extreme learning curve, is a sandbox, and prides itself on being a harsh universe.
