    SA Hotspots

    I don't go south much at all, but NWAF still gets some action on the servers I play on. NEAF occasionally has someone but not often. Found most people between Zele and Vybor mil base for the most part. Easy pickings when they are crossing those fields with no cover. (tip: get in the damn tree line even if it is just one tree wide) Farther south than Zele I can't really comment on.

    Yep the 1st person server availablity now will change how people play a bit. Now we'll see who the true hardcores are. :P On topic: I scan the town for 5-10 minutes before moving down into it. If it has open doors I'll probably just skip it. If not then I take my time moving around being sneaky and try not to aggro any infected. Get what I need and get back out. Scan the town for a while longer after I move out while eating or arranging my inventory. Never know who might have been watching you or following you. Had 2 people so far try and shadow me. They both got a 7.62 earhole.

    This right here is uncalled for. You do realize it takes months, if not over a year, to plan an ascent of the magnitude that he did.

    Its really not you. It comes down to the netcode, server code, and hive structure mostly. It is one of the reasons why we are stress testing the servers right now with minimal zeds. The devs are collecting tons of metrics from us and once the holidays are over I'm sure we'll see some stability/optimization changes coming down the pipe.

    Vehicles needed asap?

    No. They aren't needed at this time. Much more important things to worry about and implement before vehicles. Actually, I would be happy if they didn't have any vehicles at all. They aren't needed. Wanted by most yes, but not needed. They remove any type of suspense/tension that comes from moving around the map. Why be careful when you can zip through towns and over terrain and be out of range after 1 shot is fired at you at most. Infected sure can't keep up so they're no longer a problem. Didn't like the ideas of vehicles in the mod and sure don't like them now.

    Gas tank explosion maybe from a gas station? Or could be someone setting the sandbox on fire. You can do this by hitting it with an axe. Its short but pretty cool.

    Agree with the previous poster about having a son and watching that movie. I kept putting myself in Viggo's shoes and wondering what I would do. The end was heart wrenching for me I'll tell you that. As for DayZ, yes I very much get a "The Road" feeling while playing it solo. Its probably one of the reason I avoid going to the southern part of the map. Would much rather play in the Northwest, Northeast, and Eastern portions.

    What did you do in Dayz today?

    Logged in NW of Lopatino at the new town. Looted and moved on to NWAF. Spent a while scouting the area and moved near the tents. Heard a mosin and M4 being shot not to far away. Got eyeballs on the tents and saw 2 guys manning the ground bunker there shooting people coming to loot the tents. Affixed my long range scope. Took out one with a headshot. second one ducked down. I waited a bit and saw him low crawling away toward the tents. Two shots later he was dead. Changed positions and watched the tents and surroundings for another 10 minutes or so. Nothing was moving, so made my way to the tents and grabbed a new tac vest (mine was damaged) and grabbed a ammo box. Moved out to Grishino, scouted the area then moved in and looted it refilling my food supply and finding some more 7,62 ammo. After that made my way Southeast for a while. Found a pretty cool campsite in the woods on a hill. Logged off for the night after that. All in all was a good night.

    How/when can we make standalone cinematics?

    The possibility of modding has been discussed. I haven't read/seen anything that says "yes modding will be included". Rocket has said it is something he would like to add in far down the road, but security of the game also has to be taken into account.

    Actually Rocket did design it this way. The ability to KoS is part of the game. It is part of the human interaction. Remove the ability to KoS and you remove a level of tension and unknown when it comes to seeing another player. It would turn the game into a looting and running simulator with no unknown dangerous elements. Sure there would be zombies, but zombies are AI and as such can be handled easily with experience no matter how difficult you make them or how many you place on the map. The human element and the danger of KoS is what makes the game interesting whether you personally KoS or not. It makes entering a town or moving through wooded areas suspenseful. You don't know if someone is watching that town or scanning the area you are in. It makes you have to be careful at all times. That at its core is DayZ. Sure there are infected. Sure you need to get supplies for various reasons. But remove the ability to KoS and there is nothing left to fear. Nothing to add suspense to the game. DayZ is a harsh world. It is unforgiving and if you're not careful it will chew you up and spit you out in a heart beat. Even if you are careful you will die eventually cause everyone makes mistakes. Even the guy living far north, scavenging the northern towns, and living mostly in the woods has to worry about that one guy he might run across. Why is that? It is because KoS is in the game.

    non english speaker. Me thinks google translate failed you horribly. As for the topic, it is just common sense to communicate with an unknown person from cover instead of revealing yourself. If you didn't know that you deserve whats coming.

    You are playing the wrong game. No really you are I'm not being trollish here. Dayz will always have the ability to shoot another player on sight if you want. Always has. Its part of the game. Learn to avoid it. Become better at being sneaky and judging people by their actions. Not everyone KoS's. Just have to learn how to figure that out for yourself.

    New Player Views

    Yep quite a bit of the items you have problems with are because of "alpha". Sorry to say, but thats the best explanation. Animations are sure to get better as will the in game interaction with the environment (sliding). The alpha right now is mainly testing the database and server stability. Features and content are slowly going to be added over the next year. The road map http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ list whats on the table for immediate development. There is a nice video, though a bit long at 24 minutes, explaining the eating/drinking system. And yes I recommend watching/listening to the whole video to really understand whats going on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwNgTnj9hBE As for players, the map is huge. Like, take the past 2 or 3 BattleField games' maps and combine them all into one map huge. Even better take the Planetside 2 maps (all 3 land masses) and combine them and you have an idea of the map size in DayZ. So naturally with only 40 players per server it can be quite hard to run into someone else depending on where you go. And yea there are compasses in game. But the clouds generally always travel west to east and the sun goes from Southeast to Northwest roughly (yea it should be east to west but someone goofed initially putting it in. Fix incoming). At night the stars are correct for the northern hemisphere and can be used for navigation. Hope that helps ya get around. And yea the game is very time intensive. Its more of a simulator than your traditional game. But you can set small goals for yourself if you have limited time. Something like get to town A and raid/loot it in one play session. Move to town B and maybe loot it in another play session. Things of that Nature can usually be done in a fairly short amount of time depending on play style. Good luck and welcome to Dayz SA :)

    How long for corpse decay?

    Yea its a bug currently where most bodies disappear upon respawn. They are supposed to stay for quite a while after dieing. Hopefully the bug fix will be in the next patch. Totally agree Aussie. Coming up on the NWAF firestation back door and hearing the flies buzzing from a corpse always put me on edge. Knowing someone had recently died in the area added a whole new level of tension.

    New Hygiene System and Ideas

    1. Hygiene: I think Rocket already has something like this planned given there is disinfectant spray in game already. Of course adding in the "washing clothes/items with water" aspect would add on to such a thing. 2. The temperature addition, as stated by Kingfury4, was in the mod already and had a definite impact on how most people played. I can't see any reason why rocket would not include this in the SA as well. Makes sense given we have raincoats, wellies, beanies, etc.

    If this is in direct response to my post, I never said I wanted pvp removed. No where in my post does it say that. No where in my post history have I ever said such a thing. I actually argue for KoS staying in game all the time. I'm a bandit. I kill people. I don't always KoS, but yea I like the pvp in DayZ. I just don't want the game to be easy to survive in with 100's of vehicles, everyone having military grade weapons and equipment easily found, and no one having to worry about how they will survive. Stop insinuating I meant something else. If this was not a direct response to my previous post, disregard then.

    Mosin test, effect of bipod (video)

    So given distance is calculated correctly (not arguing this), the bipod undeployed increases dispersion. Shots fired with a deployed bipod decreases dispersion, but only really factors in for long range shots. Makes sense actually. Thanks for the info both OP and Gews. Makes my decision yesterday of dropping my pristine M4 w/ acog and MP attachments easier to handle now.
