what kind messages you will leave on NOTES?
pants! replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
With the current lack of toilet paper, we could perhaps leave 'special' notes here and there. -
Actually they'll probably shoot you in the ass to avoid damaging the helmet and gas-mask they're about to take from you.

Good idea. As in real life, you generally eat until you have satiated your hunger. Either that or you become a fat b*****d.

I'm no bandit but if you forced me to listen as you read that out, I'd shoot you myself. PS. Your 'warm breeze' is seriously improbably as it is perpetually autumn in Chernarus (you noticed the trees?) -

Let us pins notes to the backs of other players! -
I think we should have .22 Air Rifles too, perhaps even .177 for the hilarity. I do jest though, .22 LR seems an obvious inclusion for DayZ

How often have your shot somebody because you don't want to loose everything?
pants! replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
Never. As in; they have to show deliberate hostile intent before I take hostile action myself. -
Knew he would do it HAHA! Bandit for life?

It's a shame you can't 'spike' your own weapon and hand it over. Then you could find out if they are trustworthy. If they are, you could tell them how to fix the weapon. If they aren't, you lose the weapon but they lose their character :) -
Me too... What GPU(s) are you running? Also, the screenshots appear to have a slightly foreshortened vertical aspect (the player appears a little short and fat). Is this how it appears on the actual displays?

I always thought that with the copious amount of beans available in DayZ that something else was needed to go with our campfires.

I duct taped a portable gas stove to my head and ran through Balota airfield. Wacky fun.

I can't find a 105mm Howitzer.

There's plenty of friendlies we just don't feel the need to wave our cod piece around in public.

I have to admit you've got the flat-out most awkward rig when it comes to linux! The default response for GPU selection on Linux used to be "buy Nvidia" but AMD has improved their driver support a long way recently. However, they seem to be having a momentary lapse with the R9 290X (and the 290). They didn't even send a press review sample of the 290X to Michael Larabel. You can guarantee it will be supported but only properly when AMD pull their finger out (next driver update). I've actually used a Plantronics 5.1 USB headset successfully so it may be the mixer config. The most direct method to check is to fire up a terminal, start alsamixer, hit F6 and see where your channel levels are set for the headset. The X4 support has a clue in the name (Microsoft). ;) There is however, kernel driver support in the pipeline (without vendor support, the community write the kernel support). Same with the Razer unfortunately. I'll grant you if razertool isn't updated, that mouse won't be easily supported. Bank card readers are probably down to your bank's implementation. Mine worked out of the box^Wenvelope but without knowing your specifics (and I don't suggest sharing your banking security specifics here) I can't say why it won't work. Certainly, I've never had the nuts to try online banking on a Windows machine. In hindsight, I do tend to tailor my hardware purchases to what I know to work as I've already made the move and Windows is only a 'toy' for running DayZ now. Certainly, the more fancy or expensive something is, the deeper I research it's compatibility before buying. Back on to the topic of the SteamBox / SteamOS, Valve provide target hardware specs so you can know what works and what doesn't before you buy. I really can't help you with that one :p

So if I'm the 2nd person I'm automatically safe from removal?

I've been wearing Head Mounted Displays with tracking systems since the mid/late 1990s. I've 'coped' with 263x230 or worse displays. I've dealt with electronic compasses that always orientated on the nearest lump of metal and orentation sensors that updated a half second after you moved. The Rift is a total step change from even modern high-end HMDs. I believe it's the true beginning of the future of immersive FPS gaming. You can be there, or be square :p

That was the early development units resolution. The second dev kits are reportedly 1080p and the first consumer unit will also be 1080p. Reportedly, they're also developing a future consumer unit with 4K resolution.

How about the type that help you swim so we can get to islands quicker?

I think it would come with it's own advantages. Using an Rift, you can freely look as you do with your own head movement / eyes. A glance over the shoulder is just that (once you get used to how the tracking feels). The steroscopic vision may also aid in picking out moving objects at distance or engaging in hand/hand more accurately. As you say, it's a post-dayz-optimization goal: Dean said: Q: Will DayZ be Oculus Rift or TrackIR supported?’ A: Well I met the Oculus Rift guys at Pax West and tried it out and it was freaking awesome. They were big fans of DayZ and ArmA so we want to do everything we can to ensure that happens. However, ArmA and DayZ suffer from a very complex entity so achieving a locked frame rate at 60 FPS is very difficult because you can’t guarantee what is going to happen and you need that constant 60 FPS to make the Oculus Rift work. So the challenge isn’t to technically support it (because we already do support TrackIR), the challenge is optimizing the game. You don’t want to optimize too early so we need to do all the innovation and then we do a lot of optimization so we will see how it goes, but we love it and having played with the Oculus Rift myself I can hands down say that it will make DayZ a thousand times better and that’s not an exaggeration. I don’t know how many people have tried the Oculus Rift but if you get the chance to then do it but like I say we are going to have to do a lot of optimization.
