  1. Hey guys, I spend a lot of time online correcting people and answering questions in regards to DayZ. Many people are completely unaware that the engine is being completely rebuilt. I was wondering, is there a source anywhere of all of the changes to the engine? An overview of things like new renderer, new physics system, new player controller, etc? It would be very useful in my quest to dispel ignorance related to DayZ. Thanks!
  2. Thanks dude. Love your avatar btw. DayZ and Ultima Online are easily in my top 5 favorite games of all time.In fact, i've pondered the idea of making a UO mod for DayZ when modding is implemented ;) As for the question of helicopters and base building coming in .63 I don't really know. I know .63 signifies the new engine being in it's first complete iteration and should therefore allow helicopters and base building to be implemented but it will take time to add content. I do think they want to "wow" us with .63 so I wouldn't be surprised if they waited to launch it with those features, but I could also easily understand if complications came up delaying them till later on. The good news is once .63 hits the majority of the heavy work done to the engine is completed leaving the team to really focus down on bug fixes, optimization, and content.
  3. Thanks bud. Yeah i've actually been working on a sort of "FAQ" for common criticisms and so forth that I hear all the time. Get sick of typing them out 20x a day :)

The Promise and Fear of .62

2 years ago they announced that in order to create the game that they wanted to create that they'd have to fundamentally overhaul various large parts of the engine and turn what is essentially a monolithic titan of a game engine in a modular, highly configurable and adaptable engine. Creating a game like Ark in Unreal 4 Engine or Rust in the Unity engine is like building a car. You have all the parts in front of you and you then must put them together to build the car. Building the engine from scratch is akin to building a car except you must design the car, design the parts, build the manufacturing facilities, produce the parts, assemble the parts, and then finally hopefully you can assemble the car and hope it works correctly. After extreme amounts of testing, you finally have the car, working and ready to go but it is clearly a vastly more difficult process than just putting a car together from a heap of pre-made parts.

What needs to be done with DayZ

Once the new player controller and physics system are in place, content will be added. Thank you for admitting you know nothing about game development, though.
  8. Funny how guys like TopeRECTV don't have any problems with this. It is YOUR responsibility to adapt to the game, not the game's responsibility to adapt to you. I like the way the character handles. It's not instantaneous and easy like CoD. It's more realistic. Besides that, the new player controller is being developed to smooth the game out.

    Future of public hive servers

Agreed and it's 100% opposed to the spirit of DayZ. All of my good memories from DayZ are private server memories. They foster community and are in keeping with what DayZ is supposed to be. Server hopping, combat logging, it's all BS.

    Future of public hive servers

I'm all for it. Besides I think private 1st person servers such as DUG are where it's at. Never had a "great" experience on a public server in SA or the mod.

from fun to pretty much unplayable

Honestly sound fun to me. This is what I WANT from DayZ. If everything is easy then exploring quickly becomes boring and meaningless.

    CLE still a mess

Tuning balance in terms of CLE is probably a very low priority right now as long as the system is working right. Game balance will come in beta.
  13. I have a strong passion for this feature. I can't quite explain it, but nothing would make me happier than to see a single action revolver, specifically the 1875 Remington Outlaw or more likely the iconic Colt Single Action Army implemented into DayZ. I'll try to explain it. DayZ is about survival of course. But it's also about exploration. It's about society banding together and planting the seeds of civilization on a bleak and brutal new frontier. DayZ and other apocalypse genre media take their roots from the western. The western is at the heart of cinema and is the basis and a major inspiration behind franchises such as Star Wars (think Han Solo and the Cantina shootout in the desert planet of Tattooine or Luke's story which parallels John Wayne's story from The Searchers) and Terminator (Aside from the apocalypse theme, think Terminator going into the country bar and taking a Winchester 1887 which is an iconic old west shotgun and riding off on a steel horse). Long story short, when I play DayZ I have this feeling of being a character in a western. This connects me to my grandfather who loved westerns. I inherited his Colt Single Action Army. The western isn't as relevent today as it was when my grandfather was a child. But the narrative of the western is taken and put into modern franchises and in that way it is very much alive. It is for these reasons and more that I would very much like to see a Single Action Revolver implemented into DayZ. As for the mechanics - on a single action revolver as you pull the hammer back you will hear it click 4 times. Each time you pull the hammer back it will rotate the cylinder 1/6 around for each of the 6 rounds. Also, you can hold the trigger down and "fan" the hammer for rapid fire. The first click is the "safety position" in which the trigger cannot be pulled and the gun is "safe" (although can still go off if the gun is dropped or if the hammer is hit with some significant force which is why it's recommended to keep the gun loaded with only 5 shells and have the hammer resting on the empty chamber). The 2nd click or the "half cock" is for reloading. In this position, the loading gate can be opened and the cylinder can be turned. You must turn the cylinder and manually eject each shell case with the ejecting rod and load each shell in one by one through the loading gate. The 3rd click is the cylinder bolt locking against the cylinder. The 4th click or "full cock" is when the hammer is fully cocked back and ready to fire. There are 2 possible ways this could be implemented into the game. The first and easiest way would be to use your gun function or reload key once per shot and click for each shot. You could then hold the left click down and hit your reload key to fan fire. The other method would be to tap r 3 times for each shot, or to put the gun in safe mode you could tap r once, to reload you could tap r twice, and to fire you'd tap r 3 times and then click. Although I like the idea of the latter more complex method I think the former single press method would be better for simplicity sake. Additional information on this here: http://www.solidsmack.com/design/the-grit-the-gun-and-the-4-stages-of-product-design-retribution-inddes/ Another feature for this weapon once pistol whipping is implemented will be it's ability to function as a great melee weapon due to it's robust, heavy frame. I've brought this idea up before elsewhere. Some people really like it but others have said that the gun would be out of place in Eastern Europe. My rebuttal to this is that the lever action rifle is in the game and it is no more out of place than this would be. In addition, there are Cowboy Shooting clubs in the Czech Republic so these guns are certainly in the area although they may be rare. As seen here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://www.realwestern.com/firearm/ Personally I feel the iconic nature of the weapon and its ties to culture and roots in the sort of history and theme behind the apocalypse genre not only warrants it's inclusion but demands it. I hope you feel the same way. Below I will leave other references to this gun in culture and history as well as some pictures of the Remington 1875 and Colt SAA. The SAA in the Fallout franchise: http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/1/17015/1560962-falloutnv_2010_10_19_17_38_21_38.png The gun can be found in original "Van Buren" Fallout 3 before it was scrapped: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/lr1OcNPpSro/maxresdefault.jpg Revolver Ocelot from the Metal Gear tells you what the greatest handgun ever made is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTIG_hO8tg0 The Remington 1875 Outlaw. The main difference between this and the Colt SAA is the "web" under the barrel, a design left intact from the ramrod on the legendary black powder Remington New Model Army. It adds some heft to the gun, making it great for a melee weapon and reducing recoil. http://www.taylorsfirearms.com/media/catalog/category/1875-Army-Outlaw-Revolver-ProductPageLW462.jpg A beautifully engraved Colt Single Action Army: http://www.engravingtransfers.com/Dubber CCA 2013-0001.jpg hickok45 shooting the Remington 1875 Outlaw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eP9knGpzMw4 Thank you for reading. Please do consider implementing this treasure of a weapon. It's history and lore surely deserves a place in the greatest zombie survival game ever made. If you agree please support this idea! Thank you.
  14. We have Payday masks in DayZ... What else does Payday have that DayZ could use? Hmmm.... True story: I actually bought and played Payday 2 JUST BECAUSE of this weapon :D
  15. One extremely important aspect of this topic I forgot to mention: Another reason a Single Action revolver would be great for DayZ is because of it's mechanics. There is no spray and pray with this weapon. There is no blind firing. Every shot must be deliberate and thoughtful. If you make a mistake with this weapon it will punish you severely! For this reason the gun promotes a very "DayZ" philosophy and play style - Mindful yet unforgiving considering it can do extensive damage but it takes more time than usual to empty and load.
  16. its nice any lever action is good to look at though there's a problem with it, its chambered in 45-70 I'm not sure if its a unique cartridge or chambered in a lot of other guns. If they want more revolvers or reapeters maybe just add in .44-40 winchester used in revolvers and popular lever action guns like winchester 1873 and colt single action army I now there's aloot of other lever actions and revolvers. Or add more .357 magnum revolvers and lever action guns. The devs said they don't have planns now for adding more but they didn't say no. Yes! Thank you. I created a thread on this topic in the suggestions forum. The Single Action revolver is an iconic weapon at the heart of the apocalypse genre and it deserves a place in this game. We're all trying to make our way in this new frontier after all. The thread is here:
  17. As the creator of this thread and topic I deem the 7.5" to be the standard :) Wouldn't mind being able to find other barrels or variants though. But these pistols are also used for hunting and the 7.5" is standard for hunting.
  18. Just a reminder we do have a revolver in the Magnum :) What we need is a single action revolver which does not have a pop out cylinder and yes is VERY slow to load and to empty for that matter. Only the most badass survivors would use it. I wouldn't mind an eastern revolver as long as the traditional western single action is implemented. Up above I said the single action should use .357 but I forgot about .45 ACP. .45 ACP would probably make a little more sense. Another feature i'd like to see with the single action is a side holster. I'd also like to find leather stamping tools which would allow you to make custom holsters such as these: http://www.purdygear.com/SAskirted001.html and of course would allow for quick draw shootouts to occur. Thanks for commenting!
  19. Awesome, thanks for the support. I don't anticipate a ton of support on this issue as many people don't feel as strongly as I do about it. Would be a very cool rare "prestige" item though if nothing else!
  20. Yeah I would imagine it would use .357. It would probably be a generic name such as "Single Action Army". I'd prefer the 7.5" barrel myself. Disagree with it being "out of place" though, plenty of people collect them in Czech.

    Well Done BI!

The game is awesome. I am enjoying it and patiently waiting until it's finished. Some people will always complain.

    Less Military. More Apocalyptic. (Clothing)

I definitely think craftable FUR clothing would be awesome and practical. Think buccaneers in the wild west... Or barbarians in ancient germany!

    Water Purification [MAYBE NOT SOLVED]

I have taken hundreds of sips from ponds/Wells without any sickness. If there is a .1 chance of getting sick, it would occur roughly 1/1000 sips. Having to take 32 sips adda fresh spawn would mean that purification would be a serious pain in the ass if infection wad likely.

    Suggestion: Rain Ponchos

Love the camo/od green ponchos edit: damn I posted this 2 years ago. I recently bought a coyote tan poncho, LOVE it, want to see it in game.
