  1. That is not a problem of starting weapon or side chat. DayZ before went mainstream, had few servers only and most of players were ArmA 2 community members gameplay was much better. People talked more, strangers help each other, didn't shoot on sight or even inform other survivors where bandits are. Also bandit skin feature helped a lot. Since all that DayZ hype, game turned from innovative survival horror into deathmatch with almost harmless zombie NPC.

    Vision range in DayZ?

    That's server side setting and might be vary. In ArmA 2 most of the servers doesn't have that limitation and you can set maximum view distance in your game settings. Maximum is 10km.

    Textures and servers?

    Check 3D texture resolution in options. It should be 100% (equals yours screen resolution) or higher. Also if you have Combined Ops only, character models and weapons from BAF and PMC expansions will be low resolution. I hope that helps.

    I'm not sure about Holo version (British Army don't use it), but L85A2 w/ ACOG, SUSAT and IronSight should be in game and replace AWS version.

    Wind

    Realistic wind and sniping are part of ACE mod which is used on ArmA 2:CO Multiplayer. It affect to all weapons and beyond 400-500 meters makes shooting way more exciting and interesting. ACE also has a Kestrel, used by real military sniper personnel to calculate wind adjustments and other factors.

    Make it harder, less loot

    I agree with Op. My solution would be to: - reduce a military/weapon loot rate in buildings like barracks, military tents, deer stands, etc by 75% - remove completely military/weapon loot from firestation buildings (why fireman would have AK or M16 there?). - reduce by 50% heli crash site spawn rate, but leave actual loot rate there. This would also make a server hopping less efficient. Now, to improve gameplay I'd like to see more random events with small chance to spawn on server like destroyed military convoys, crashes ambulances and supply trucks: - Russian, American and British military convoys with proper loot, so British convoy would have 2-3 destroyed Jackals and British Army loot (i.e. L85A2 w/ ACOG, not AWS version) - crashed ambulance with medical loot - supply trucks with food, tools etc. It'd reward players whom explore entire map, not only loot NW Airfield and Stary Sobor military tents.

    I hope Rocket removed AWS version and added ACOG/SUSAT/Iron Sight version of L85A2.
  10. 1.60 = version of ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead game. 1.7.2 = version of DayZ mod.

    Remove L85A2 AWS Add L85A2 w/ SUSAT, L85A2 w/ ACOG, L85A2 Iron Sight, L86A2 (keep very very low spawn rate) Reason: AWS version is not commonly in use by British Armed Forced. They use standard issue L85A2 w/ ACOG or one of those listed above. I don't care if weapon is OP/1337/etc. DayZ suppose to stay realistic and possibility that UK would use AWS is very, very unlikely.

    You find perks, killstreaks and "awards" in all kinds of mainsteam/casual shooters. DayZ is zombie survival simulator, unique game, not "just a shooter".
  14. DayZ is a survival simulator, not PvP game with PVE zombies. You don't even need to shoot to anyone to play DayZ - remember about it. For full PvP experience once again I highly recommend ArmA 2 - it's one of the most immerse and exciting multiplayer games I have ever played. With ACE and ACRE it's the most unique experience. Problems which you mentioned: I believe Rocket knows about those and your feedback will make this mod better (remember it's only an Alpha!) ps. JSRS and Blastcore are optional, but awesome mods for ArmA 2 (not DayZ).
  15. I'd recommend ArmA 2 with ACE and ACRE mods - way more interesting PvP then DayZ.

Xeno [/quote'] Great idea folks, but it doesn't look as if it's likely to happen anytime soon. That's really sad to hear. I still wonder why Bohemia haven't hired ACE team yet. They improved original ArmA 2 massively and many people bought game just because of ACE or ACRE.

    Realism vs keeping new players

    Not true. When you respawn you already know where you are (game shows name of location) so you already know where you are. Map is small' date=' running speed is not realistic (it's too fast) and DayZ needs ACE mod to add fatigue system (otherwise you can sprint forever) so you need about 15-30 minutes to get to your buddy. Also such elements like terrain association, navigation, etc are park of the DayZ. You won't get any sort of HUD to tell you where you need to go. If you add option to spawn next to your buddy, game lost another it's unique feature and there will be no drawback for being lame and dying. As mentioned earlier game is not difficult if you know what you are doing and think about it. Weapons, food, water, other supplies are almost everywhere and zombies are easy to avoid. Most newcomers also make a huge mistake: they go straight to DayZ and play it. Imho it would be useful for them to play some ArmA 2 tutorials and learn about game and controls first.

So how long do you survive on average? - 14 days, would be more but got killed few times by hackers and server hoppers How long does it take you get to your preffered set up? - less then 20 minutes to get basic equipment like larger backpack, matches, hatchet, hunting knife, tons of beans and water, civilian weapon etc. Extra 20 minutes for military assault rifle, so lets make it less than hours.
  19. I wonder why all those players that only want to kill survivors, they don't play ArmA 2? It's much more fun PvP experience (expecially with ACE and ACRE mods) than DayZ.
