DayZ 1.7.1 Discussion - Others will be locked/deleted!
Jono (DayZ) replied to Tigerr13's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love the changes - certainly makes it a lot more intense. I don't like the log out > in bug which gives you the lowest health you've had (I think) - which was nice to experience; starting off with 9000 health when I first logged in, then getting into a stupid zombie fight, down to 4000 health, then healing back to full, then having another completely screwed up fight where I got knocked on the floor by a zombie that spawned on me, then proceeded to eat my legs for the next 45 seconds. Then by the time I'd bandaged I was on 318 health. For about 2 hours. I'm back up to full now, and am looking forward to seeing what happens tomorrow. I hope I'll not be on 318 health again, though :( Aggro range of zombies is a little weird. Sometimes you can crouch up to them about 50m away (near deer stands) and then crawl the last bit and you'll be fine. Other times you can crawl up to them from about 100m away and they'll see you at nearly that distance. I haven't actually died, miraculously.... so I'm not sure what I'll think of starting with nothing, but hey ho :) Best mod of the best game I never played. Thanks Rocket & Co. -
Any workaround for FPS drop after respawn/server change?
Jono (DayZ) replied to integ3r's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is not helpful, but I have not experienced any FPS drop after server change (though I don't have the hotfix as my preferred server didn't have it, so I had to revert. In fact I don't think it's run any smoother before. I have a lowly 5850 with ancient drivers. -
Debate on the fundementals (please)
Jono (DayZ) replied to hoik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm *very* new to this, in fact I only bought Arma II last weekend and have played about 4 hours of DayZ so far. I was drawn into it by various videos on youtube, and articles on rockpapershotgun and I thought "Awesome - gotta get me some of that". But in those 4 hours my enjoyment has been ruined by hackers and people being dicks (Killing me in the face for no reason (which is fine)). But c'est la vie. I guess that's the approach I'll be adopting. I don't have any emotional tie to my little guy - Other than "Yay I now have cool stuff" - I don't think that I ever will have. I did like the idea of it being a little bit The Walking Dead-esque, in that it would be much better to group up to survive. All I need to do is avoid packs of zombies and other people, once I have my survival equipment and a pond near by. People in TWD stuck together because as individuals they'd be weak; a lot weaker than sticking together, except for Shane or Daryl, maybe. Yet they still died. They had a reason to survive and to keep some form of humanity about them, only killed in self defence etc, as a last resort. I'm not saying I want the game to change - it's not my game. It's Rocket's and I'm really looking forward to finding out how he implements his vision, and/or how it changes. I just ... I dunno - a small part of me just wishes there was a better alternative than kill or be killed, no matter what. If I need a blood transfusion I'm going to die. None of my friends play the game yet, so really I can trust no one. And they can't trust me. I have an Alice pack and it's just a beacon saying "If you know what this is, shoot me on sight - it contains 20 slots of awesome". In reality it just contains a bunch of ammo and some flares for guns I don't yet have. Maybe some would be handy to others, but they wouldn't know either way until they were prying off my blood-soaked back. I don't want anything forced on me - any way to behave... Other players will punish me for doing them wrong. I just wish they gave me a chance to prove I don't have to be hostile. And vice versa. -
Can you get a global ban for FRAPS?
Jono (DayZ) replied to thygrrr's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I should really start FRAPSing - but it's quite easy to turn off the overlay? I forget how it works... I'll reinstall tonight :) -
2 Hackers on UK 87 server get pwned
Jono (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Is the... M4A1 M203 SOPMOD SD CAM (I think) a legit weapon? I don't know which server I was on last night but some twat shot me in the face after saying they were friendly and I should come to them. Anyway, I couldn't respawn on that server so went to another, EU something but when I spawned I heard a machinegun being fired (presumably on newly-spawned players) from up on the hills in front so went to investigate. I tried to follow the gunshots but when I got close I found a massive crate, which was full of weapons (like you get in Arma2 tutorials for MOAT or whatever it's called training). I picked up the gun I mentioned at the start in the hope of finding whoever was shooting then killing them via their own hacked(?) crate... unfortunately they came back to resupply while I was perusing the goods and shot me in the face. Shame. Now - I'd never have used that weapon to kill any *other* player, but can't something be done to make these items just not work in DayZ... like if you get one in your inventory you get fired up into the air or something? There should definitely be zero tolerance with this sort of thing, either from Rocket/BI/Admins... and that includes others such as myself who just happen to find someone else's crate. I won't be trying to loot one again, anyway. -
I voted prefer to play during day: I don't know if it's just my gfx settings, but at night - even on a clear night when there should be SOME light (surely - though I've never seen a moon in the sky)... Even with Gamma/Brightness whacked all the way up, All I can see is black/silhouettes of trees. It's just no fun at all.

Time of the month? Sorry, couldn't resist. Honestly - I don't know. All I know is that I've had my evening's fun ruined by a couple of hackers of some US servers. I am annoyed.

The one and only: Hackers rustled my jimmies thread.
Jono (DayZ) replied to #BASEDGOD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just got killed by someone who was sat next to a rearming station or whatever they were - crates just full of all weapons and ammo from ARMA2. I'm sure THAT'S not meant to happen. -
My experience of bikes is: Awesome downhill Terrible/don't work uphill.

Dear rocket, f**k humanity. Focus on Morality.
Jono (DayZ) replied to Goldstein (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the best way to implement some kind of Humality would be to make being "a dick" have consequences. I'm not too sure how loot spawning works in-game, but I believe it to be that it'll not respawn if you're sat on the spawn point, but if you run away a bit and come back it'll be there. I suppose what you could do is make the run away radius a bit bigger, so you can't just sit in a building forever, never running out of supplies/ammo (is that possible? - I've only played for a couple of days). A lone bandit making a few peoples' lives hell shouldn't be too hard to overpower, if you're cunning about it. I don't think there should be a penalty for being a bandit and murdering everyone you can - sooner or later you'll probably make a mistake, be forced to fire off a few rounds when there are zombies about. Of course, it would be nice if there were more zombies so you were encouraged to not go it alone.... I dunno - I've not yet given anyone the chance to kill me yet; I'm too good at dying all by myself. -
^Because the tutorials don't have zombies in them. I, however have played the tutorials, but only after playing DayZ and dying a few times :)

I tried that and it just didn't seem to work. All I ever saw was my starting pistol. Then a zombie ate my face.

I'd like to join if possible. I'm 32, but have a mental age of 5, probably. Nah, but seriously - sounds like the sort of thing I'd like. -
Lovely - this deserves more attention (along with other such useful maps). I still suck at navigating at night, though :(

To which (mis)information are you referring?

First impression and condition of the player (me)
Jono (DayZ) replied to catstyle (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
I'll add my 2p to this. Well I finally managed to play a little last night. Two thoughts spring to mind: 1) Are my graphics settings teh sux? Everything seems a little blurry, especially compared to others' screenshots. I don't care about FSAA, what can I change? 2) I am terrible at this game. I got rid of my stupid starter pistol this morning and found a revolver in a shed. Much bettter. I found a tractor, which I used to run over some zombies (satisfying) and then crashed into a fence. More zombies came, I was too stupid to run away. Tractor set on fire somehow. I died. I started again - ran up a hill to a house, found a bicycle. Zombie chased me - Pedalled up the tiniest of tiny inclines... ground to a halt. Zombie ate my face. Repeat above, but this time found my way to where my bike was left - set off downhill. Got to about 50km/h? Ended up in some village. Crashed into a roadblock. Zombie ate my face. Started again this morning - made it to some docks somehow. I was led to believe zombies don't like docks. They do - they also like trying to eat my face there. I am currently logged off, cowering in a shed, with no bandages, about 6000 blood left and no idea what to do next. I too love this game. Can't wait to play more this afternoon.
