StayAlive (DayZ) replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion

Been playing as a Lone Wolf in Dayz and wanted to share with you some of my tips. First of all i want to say that this is probably the most unforgiving way to play the game. There is nobody to help you out and nobody to watch you back. Military formations at your disposal is slim, which means you will most likely die in an ambush. There is nobody to heal you or give you food/water. If you get hurt, there is a high risk you will die. Basically, you are on your own. That said, there are ways to survive and prosper. Be Silent. Get an fire axe or any other sharp/blunt object and use it when absolutely needed. Remember not to use it in a cramp space; If you hit the wall, you make a lot of noise. Don't eat/drink or make other sounds that attracts attention when you are in a city. Do that outside. Zombies are you best friend. If you see zombies, you know the place is safer than without. Don't kill them, but use them as your own alarm. When you hear the zombies start making noises, you know there is a chance that someone is lurking around. Keep hidden and have a safe spot. You are not supposed to run around in the open field, follow the railroads or wires. You are trying to travel with something to blend in with and which can be used for your own protection. A tree, a wall in a city, under a bridge, high vegetation, etc. Also try to see to it that you have your back and sides covered at all time. No one else is doing it for you. You [ALT] is you very best friend. Surviving is dying. Don't get to attached to your gear, because you will eventually die. Learning by dying. Water/food/bandages is you primary source of survival. After that you can get a backpack and a gun. As a Lone Wolf you will eventually need a Mosin with a scope. You are not supposed to be running around spraying bullets. you are using your weapon for scoping. The Mosin will work as your secondary weapon, while your fire axe will be your primary weapon, hopefully for all encounters with the enemy. A sidearm is something you won't be needing. Less bullets is less sound. Be quick in and out of buildings and just take what you need for survival. Also listen for any gunfights or look for any people that have just been looting in the surroundings. There might just be a chance you can pick up some dropped supplies or even some from a dead player. Some people also get rid of stuff they don't need by dropping them inside clothes, so you might want to look there to. Scope the area out. You are spotting the other players, not the other way around. If you really need to go to the cities, which you should only do if you want some extra excitement, or death, remember to start scoping the high buildings and move your aim downwards. Remember, as a Lone Wolf, you already know what you a looking for, which reminds me of my next segment. Know the map. You should know every nook and cranny of the map. This will take a very long time, but at the end, you will die less. Always carry a compass and use the guides out there to otherwise get you bearings. After a while, you can rely on your own instincts as to where you are on the map. After all, nobody else needs to know you position. Move to a better position. Never be to stuck at one position for to long. Change where you rest, scope and eat/drink. If you see a player or a group of players moving towards your location, move a bit further away from them and find a better position. If you have a very well hidden position, you can off course try your luck and let them walk past by you. But keep in mind, larger groups might have a spotter somewhere hiding in the bushes. Hope you found some of it useful. Stay safe out there!

Nothing like cutting into an enemy base;)

[Guide] Surviving as a Lone Wolf
StayAlive (DayZ) replied to StayAlive (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
A Solid Snake sounboard could be fun:) it will be more interesting when you eventually can build your own house, set camp, hunt for food, infiltrate bases, scavenge for materials, etc. I'm mostly not that interested in being where the action is, i like to watch it from a distance. Let other people throw the punches;) -
As a lone wolf, i'd be VERY happy with this kind of weapon! :)

Have Zombies Always Followed You?
StayAlive (DayZ) replied to victusmortuus's topic in General Discussion
From my experience they stop running when they can't see you/or you them. -
This will be a short novel divided in different parts based on my own zombie fantasies, gameplay in Dayz and some strange dreams i am currently having of the game. Hope you enjoy the ride! Part 1: Where the hell am i! I open my eyes to the sound of gunshots and people screaming in an everlasting mix. My heart starts pumping faster and I notice my breath for the first time. I slowly try to move my body, but i can't feel anything. I try to tilt my head and it's then I notice I'm only wearing t-shirt, jeans and a pair of sneakers. I start to panic, while I slowly manage to lift my upper body. The t-shirts makes a cracking sound. Some time after I'm on my knees looking around me. I'm standing in the middle of a pile of bodies. There is blood everywhere! I notice that a couple of the corpses looks quite disfigured. Some has it's has arms and legs being ripped off, one is missing a head and one don't even have eyes. There is also something about them, they look... A shadow grows bigger in front of me and suddenly i have two arms around my neck. I get pushed to the ground on my back while i let out a tiny scream. An horribly looking male person with grey eyes are screaming. I scream back at him while he drools on my forehead. He opens his mouth and i can see the rotten teeth and...that stench!. Just as he tries to bite me, his head explodes into a mist of red blood and small chunks. A solider suddenly pulls me up from the ground and looks at me with scary eyes. "Get the fuck away from here! They are not human!", says the soldier. "What do you mean not human?" "They are dead, a zombie and they eat flesh. Our flesh! Now get the hell out of here before you die. We are outnumbered! He drags me by the shoulder some meters and pushes me into the snow. 200 hundred meters north you will find a military barrack with some clothes. Take this gun and jacket. Now Ruuuuuuun!" Just as he gives me a handgun with a clip and his jacket, i get a better view of the situation I am in. A few soldiers has made a tight formation in the middle of the field. Zombies in the hundreds are swarming around them and a big group is closing in on us. I try to warn the solider, but it's to late. Seconds later the solider is being dragged by the zombies into the field. A silent scream can be heard, as i slowly move towards north in deep snow.

The Zombie Stories: Part 1
StayAlive (DayZ) replied to StayAlive (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
There, easier to read. -
I just watched a clip from the movie Day of The Dead were a zombie named Bub was able to understand how to use a gun. He had a military background before being turned into a zombie. What do you guys think about having a type of military zombie in the game that could use a weapon? I'm not talking about very accurate shooting here, but the risk of you getting you head blown off by a zombie who managed to pull the trigger just as you run past it. These zombies could be put around military structures, which would most likely be were they would move around.

Sunglasses, Yeeeeeaaaahhhhh...or No?
StayAlive (DayZ) replied to GpB311's topic in New Player Discussion
Good idea OP:) Also: I love your avatar, long live Leon;) -
Yeah, i love that he is implementing tougher zombies! Make them make us NEED to run away:) I would not mind some pistol whipping by a zombie:)
-
He, he, yeah it seems like most people don't want the "more alive" zombie type for Dayz. Understandable, even if i still think it could have made some interesting scenarios:)
-
I don't see it ever getting that rough. There will always be something to eat in the wilderness.

Locked Cabinets, Gun Safes, And Drawers...hidden Key To Open...lock-Picking?
StayAlive (DayZ) replied to TEST_SUBJECT_83's topic in Suggestions
I like the idea, good thinking:) -
Ahh, did not know about the special infected thing. I guess the fine motor skills would depend on what type of zombie that was implemented into the game. No, it's fiction;)
-
I think I'd have myself some good laughs if i got shot by a zombie who was "playing" with a gun and it accidentally went off:)
