Actually, no - you don't have any options at all against a sniper. That's the whole point. And in DayZ you cannot stay in cover all the time because you have to go and get supplies. Now, I agree that the threat of sniper rifles adds a certain frission to the game, but there's just too damn many for it to work IMHO. Get rid of military sniper spawns and make scoped hunting rifles rare. The Leeroy Enfield has incredible range and killing power. Let them use that instead and have to deal with its 'dinner bell' effect. There should be no easymodes in DayZ. Every action should have an equally unpleasant reaction. Note that I'm not trying to balance PvP. If you want to snipe, fine. But to do so you're either going to have to hunt high and low through zombie-infested zones to find a scoped rifle, or use the one gun which let's everyone and every Z know you're around. No to easymodes. Yes to brutal challenges. -

Totally agree with your post, and think it would make the game much more like an apocalyptic scenario if everyone wasn't running around with more hardware than the entire cast of GI Joe. But to answer your questions - I like to think that as the zombie plague swept over the land these places were taken over by the military in a vain attempt to stop the hordes. That's why you get military zombies there. You have to remember that DayZ is set after the end of the world. Just look at all the wreckage around - all those battles against the undead that were ultimitely futlie. The barricades in even isolated towns. The crashed Humvees, the wrecked helicopters.... It gives me the shivers, I tell you. Deerstands were commandeered because they were out in the country and could be useful to control the flow of refugees trying to creep away from infection hotspots like the cities. Fire stations became control centres in those cities. But nothing worked. The dead rose. The slaughter began. -
I love how these posts keep surfacing now that dayZ has become wildely popular. So many gamers these days are so used to games spoon-feeding them it's very enlightening to see their reactions to something which actually challenges them. Don't give up OP - there's a steep learning curve and you're at the bottom. Just wait till you've been Pk'd after spending an hour crawling on your belly around a zombie-infested city searching for a can of beans. In the meantime, read my sig. Says it all, really.

Ok then - How about we replace sniper rifles with sabre-toothed chickens we throw at each other? How'd that be? Eh? BAM! Snarling razor-jawed chicken in your face! Eh? EH? Back on topic. -

Yeah - sniper rifles have to go. That shit's just lame. C'Mon rocket - take them out for at least one patch. We've still got the Lee Enfield for long-range shooting. Let's see how the snipers cope when they're using a weapon that attracts every zombie within earsot and may as well be a big, red arrow saying 'I AM HERE'. Also - OMG! They killed Kenny! -
PS - can anyone tell me how to get pics embedded into posts in a larger size? Thanks in advance. Beans for the first correct answer.

So thirsty ... ran out of soda .. and then I find this! What do I do!!!!
-
Once it was quiet, but I find it's as busy as Cherno/Electro now. Zelno! That's where it's at. It's got a church!
-
You get some beans for the effort and the sentiment behind the post. A well, thought out argument for a more developed game. What's not to like? I'm all for the changes you suggest, namely: Tougher zombies Fewer guns (esp military grade) Less ammo. This is a "fucking zombie apocalypse", so hopefully that's the way it's going to develop.

Random Broken Leg and Instadeath...

It's a hack - happened to me too. -
Friendly survivor - shoot on sight survivor - player hunter
Bottlerocket replied to cucu (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Do not give in to the darkside - you were just unlucky. Exact same thing has happened to me, and I still play friendly. Last night I got together with two randoms and we all ended up with gear and med supplies, where we could have just ended up in a death match. Remember - friendly survivors are playing the game to the max. Shoot on sight is easymode. -
Tougher zombies - fuck yeah! Now let's make it that when you bleed you can only crouch run. That'll tell them men from the boys in this "fucking zombie apocalypse".

Have you ever gotten a bit of luck...
Bottlerocket replied to KEEPCARLM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Spent ages last night running around Electro dodging snipers looking for a box of matches to complete my hunting kit. Tried bars, the office and the supermarket - no luck, but did get shot once (I lived). Get chucked out when server restarts and log back in later on. Decide I've pushed my luck in sniper alley too long and leave city, stopping off at one last red-brick building for the hell of it. Find matches inside! -
Dammit Bael! The DayZ Experiences of a Terrible Gamer. An Ongoing Series
Bottlerocket replied to DayZPvP.com's topic in New Player Discussion
I gave some beans to encourage you to write more - although perhaps the stories forum would be a more apt stage for your musings? -
Fuck, man ... this post had me loling for real. And the photo of the OP's booze-filled desk was just a killer pay-off line. Op - I hope you made it somewhere. Thanks for the luls, you mad genius.
-
I too, can confirm you now need multiple hits with an M1911 to bring down a Z. Also, I headshot one with a Makarov and it still took another shot to bring it down! Another time, it took seven body shots from my mak - a whole clip. Can anyone else confirm this? TBH - I think DayZ needs harder zombies, so I hope this change is intended and here to stay. I welcome our new unkillable zombie overlords! Perhaps there's an opening for someone of my talents, oh undead potentate of corruption?

Helping people is difficult
Bottlerocket replied to Raghammer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
On this subject, I'd just like to say a big thanks to the French guy and the American I just met on US 1081. Long story short, by talking to each other we all got weapons and gear and got out alive. Started off with us all talking from inside different buildings - so we were all in cover when it happened. A Total rush when we all met up and didn't start shooting! DayZ doesn;t have to be a deathmatch to be fun!!! -
Dear Op Your tears (and tearducts) were delicious. Sincerely, The zombies.
-
I'm friendly and have a 'no first use' of weapons policy. I've died to other players, true, but not as often as you would think. Most are easy to avoid. The other day I met a new player in the forest near Cherno armed with only an axe. I gave him a shotgun .... And together we raided Baolota and the military tents until he could replace it with a machine gun. Then I showed him where the aprtments were in Cherno so he could get some more loot, and we parted company. One of my best days in DayZ, I may add.

How fast can you get the basic gear?
Bottlerocket replied to Tenderness's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sadly, it's about 15 minutes if you're near a major city, as many have said. If you sprint in and ignore zombies, you can get loot far too quickly. The only danger is coming across another player. This has to change. -
Think you got hacked. I've had both happen to me. Just remember - dying is fun.
-
Hmmmmmm. Something similar happened to me a week or so back. I was in a deerstand when I started taking fire, so I went prone. The guy comes up and starts shooting me, I shoot back, but neither of us can hit the other. So it's a stalemate .... By rotating the camera I can see him, and I can;t get out of the stand. But he can;t get in to get me. Then all of a sudden my leg breaks, I lose half my health, then it drops to 0 and dead. I assumed he had a buddy that hit my leg as it glitched out of the deerstand with an axe, but I heard nothing and those things are pretty loud.
