    Unexpected Betrayal

    That isn't banditry - that's just griefing.

    Whats your worst Dayz luck?

I always think that DayZ likes to lie in wait ... and then getcha! last night I was running away from a town as night was falling, thinking how zombies aren't really a threat if you know how to deal with them. Ran straight into a deerstand I hadn't seen and spent the next five minutes desperately shooting down three zombie soldiers in the dark while bleeding like a stuck pig. I survived.... just.
  3. Is it not linked to server difficulty? IE regular, Veteran etc?
  4. Totally against any moves to start with a weapon - it was too easy before.
  5. Good post. I think you're being too harsh, but, meh ... different strokes, and all that. I would point out that as a mod, DayZ has succeeded by passing the ultimate test - it is now going to become a standalone game.

    Shit DayZ players say (contribute!)

"Ha! There's no way he could hit me from this dist....."

    Shit DayZ players say (contribute!)

Ahem .... "Who's shooting in Cherno?"
  8. Pretty sure the sinking into the floor thing is a bug .... an alt-f4 will simply disappear. Had the floor thing once too - was the guy prone? That may be the trigger.

    Finding a Home.

Spent a lot of time near the NE airfield, so every time I get back there I think ... 'well, I'm home'. It's got military spawns, although they're not usually great (never found a sniper rifle), and there's some civilian buildings nearby for cokes and pepsis. By the point I get there I've always got hunting supplies, so food is plentiful in the forests. It just gets a bit boring, tbh.

    DayZ Stories

Logged in last night to hear Lee Enfield fire off to my right. I wasn't getting shot at, and I don't think whoever was firing even knew I was there (he was either engaging another player or a lot of zombies, judging by the amount of fire). Even with all this, and the fact that it was probably a good distance off, what with the Enflield being the loudest gun in the game, I panicked and took off into the woods at full tilt. Now I'm lost lol.
  11. WTF is a 'Camouflage passport'?

    Just found portable generator... legit?

Interesting find, but what's the point? Light up a house in Cherno and you may as well strap a giant neon arrow onto your head, with the words 'shoot me' emblazoned on it.

    Extraordinarily lucky break

Heh - love it that zombies aren't really a threat, until you turn your back on them and start thinking 'zombies aren't a threat'. Got some great gear myself after waiting for Zs to do their thing.

  16. Only time I've ever found a ghillie suit was after I'd lost my pack to the debug forest, so I had no-where to put it. My pockets were being used for ammo, food, drink and meds. A suit seemed a bit of a luxury at the time (I was in Electro).

    1.7.3 @ gamescom

You'll be able to befriend wild dogs by feeding them meat. They'll hang around with you and slowly become more valuable, by doing things like growling when other players are near, staying on command, and 'tracking' - whatever that works out as (Players? loot? Zombies?). While it's not been confirmed fully, Rocket did say that when he introduces dogs he expects the forums to fill up pretty quick with QQ over people's dogs dying. And it's not like he's pulled any punches before... So expect fully shootable dogs in the next patch. ....patch ... patch .... Patch! That's my dog's name!!! You sick bastards!! You shot him!!!! Why?? Why was I put on this earth only to lose my only friend? The pain! GOD-DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!! and so forth :)

    Gamescom - Aug 2012 - Interviews

That RPS interview is good: Explains a lot about dogs. And underground bases. And the dev team (all ArmA guys) And says .... drumroll ... Standalone release in November, probably.

    Coast Spawning Bug

Only happened to me after ctrl-alt-del-ing when stuck on loading.
  21. Ah I feel your pain, OP. It's awful when a game mechanic chews you up and spits you out, and you're right to raise it as an issue. Still, I can't help but lol a little as I imagine your frantic attempts to stop your char changing clothes in the middle of a firefight. :) Have some beans.
  22. *leans back in rocking chair* *takes out pipe from pocket* *Taps out old tobacco* *Spends five minutes scrapping out the remainder with a pocket knife his grandpappy gave him* *Fills pipe with fresh tobacco* *Lights it* *Puffs deeply, staring off into the distance as though meditating* *chuckles* You know, you young ‘uns are a funny bunch. Always yammering back and forth about what should be in DayZ, and what shouldn’t, and how it’s great, and how it’s terrible, and getting yourselves all het up about stuff that a lot of you don’t really know much about at all. Now, I’m an old man, and maybe my opinion ain’t worth a cuss to anyone but m’self, but it seems to me that all y’all would be spendin' your time more productively if you actually played the part of Alpha testers that the game as it is requires you to be. Then maybe you’d notice that in the few months – and that’s months, not years, mind – DayZ’s been around we’ve had bandit skins introduced, taken out, tweaked, and put back in. We’ve had hero skins added so we can tell the good guys from the God-damned varmints. We’ve had zombies adjusted so many times I can’t even remember how they were when we started out, and a cute little hearbeat feature added to give you a tip-off about who’s been a’killin folk. Way back in the day, we used to start with guns on our hips and a bagful’ of food – that’s gone. And nowadays we got choppers again, when there were none for a long, long time. Once upon a time, if you shouted, it seemed like the whole WORLD could hear you – but that went the way of the dinosaurs too. Now, you may not believe this, but zombies were liable to break your bones on every occasion you encountered one. Thankfully, that’s also been adjusted. And you really will think I’m pullin your chain when I say this, but at one point there wasn’t a single woman in Chernarus! Not a one of them fair creatures in the whole county. I’ll keep to myself what a lot of the guys got up to back then. Let’s just say fellers lose their civilisation a bit when there ain’t a female to tell them what’s what. Behind the scenes, the whole stability of the project has increased. I remember times when it took 10 minutes to get into a game. Just think about that – you had time to log in, go off and feed the hogs, whip up some lemonade, and then come back and still see a loadin’ screen. And it would be that maybe you’d git in a game for a quarter hour, and the whole thing would crash, and you’d have to start agin. I doubt any of you youngsters would put up with that, but we did – we was real fired up to play this here mod back then. Still are, if truth be told. In between times, that guy Rocket has still managed time to appear on all them talk shows and games conventions my little granddaughter likes so much – drumming up interest in his mod so that it can become a game in its own right. And guess what – he did it! How’s that? Soon, all of us is a’gittin a shiny DayZ game to play – one that’s not essentially a hack on top of an engine that was clearly designed for other uses. Now, most of you will probably not listen to an old fart like me. And that’s just fine and dandy. But just maybe some of you will heed my words, and learn to stop and smell the zombies as you’re all a-rushing around. What we got here is mighty fine and there’s a passel o‘work gone into it, which perhaps we should stand back and appreciate, if just for a little while. *takes another puff of pipe* Lazy and incompetent? *chuckles* My ass .......

Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?

This thread depresses the hell out of me. We're finally given a game that breaks all the rules established through the domination of on-rails, hand holding FPS games and theme park mmos .... a game with reall penalties, which provokes intense ractions .... and people immediately find ways to take the challenge out of it. But on the other hand .... standalone should take care of a lot of the abuses. It's almost like we're slipping through a door to happy land before it closes.
  24. You know ... on one level we've completed our mission as testers. We've proven that we're willing to pay for a sandbox shooter which boldly rejects the massively dominant forms of game design. So much so that we're getting the standalone title many of us have dreamed about for years. So, like, leaving is ok - job's done. However, people are still going to have to stick around to test patches and new innovations - but that can be done with far less people .... meaning far fewer targets to go after .... meaning fewer hackers ....

    Instanced building will ruin Dayz...

Aw Miffy, don't let it get you down. The main advantage in using instancing is it removes the possibility of people server hopping to get round defences - which has so far been the death knell of all attempts to create player-controlled bases. I don't think it will kill DayZ. We do need some form of social hub, and unless you want to create safe zones where friendly fire is disabled - and how realistic would that be? - instancing is the best suggestion yet.
