20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
Bottlerocket replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This has been an excellent addition to the game, and has produced some real edge of the seat moments for me. Just for example: There was the time I was chased by a zed into the woods and managed to escape by hiding behind a rock. It's hard to describe the feeling of utter terror and excitement as I crawled away listening to it on the other side of the boulder, snuffling, goraning and shuffling about. And just the other night I used a thrown whisky bottle to distract 4 zombies while I crept into a barn to loot for weapons. Came out with a Winny! The sense of planning, tactics, fear and triumph DayZ gives in even little scenarios like this just cannot be beat. -
Liberation! (Mechanic of reclaiming towns for Survivors)
Bottlerocket replied to Dreganius (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Great idea - DayZ needs something like this in the long term. We have the tools to survive. We have the tools to kill each other - What's missing is that we do not have the tools to rebuild, even in a limited way. Also - no loot spawns in liberated towns. Perfect. That way you can't just sit there eating beans. You still have to go out and find ammo, or welcome incomers brining in supplies. -
POLL:What kind of person do you think YOU would become in a zombie apocalypse?
Bottlerocket replied to richard_b's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I admit it, I'd be that guy running screaming down the street with a horde of zombies on his ass. The rest of you are just kidding yourselves. -
What weapon was underwhelming to you?
Bottlerocket replied to Areos (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Found my first heli-crash site and got a BAF AS50! Turns out it blows chunks. Who needs to shoot a zombie from half a click away? Even if they spawned at that distance, more would have turned up by the time you got close enough to scavenge. Also, at shorter distances it's so loud you might as wear a giant glowing arrow saying 'FOOD HERE'. Finally, 5 rounds per mag - and it only came with 2. I dropped a Winny for this, and now I want it back. -

For the millionth time magazines are NOT clips!
Bottlerocket replied to DJKhaled's topic in New Player Discussion
So, I was watching the A-team once, and it was one of the episodes where BA Baracus had to fly. Now, you'll all remember that he hated to fly ... really hated it, like, with temper tantrums and everything. So Hannibal and the rest of the gang had him hypnotised, so that the work 'eclipse' sent him to sleep and they could get him on the plane. Pretty clever, no? But of course, it all backfired on them. They got into a gunfight, see, and he had the ammo for their handguns - so Face and Murdoch are shouting at him 'BA! The clips, The clips!' - and he only goes and falls asleep! Now, thanks to the OP, I've found out that this whole, admitedly unlikely scenario was bogus. They should have been shouting 'BA! The mags! The mags!', which wouldn't have had the same effect at all. Hollywood, eh? -

Footsteps. I was alone in an office building, my footsteps ringing out through the empty, abandoned halls. But when I stopped, I heard an echo. “Hello? Anyone there?”, I said. “I’m friendly.” No reply, only silence. I moved on, then stopped. Again, the faint echo. I called out a second time, but again heard nothing. Sometimes you develop a six sense, when you’re on the edge, and I had been surrounded by danger for weeks. My God, the sights I had seen. People torn limb from limb by those .... things. Monsters in human form that could not be stopped. Men and women gone mad with the end of the world, turning their guns on friends and neighbours just for an extra can of beans. It teaches you to be careful. I ducked into an office, and hunkered down. Best to wait and see if I really was alone. Best to be careful. Sure enough, within a few minutes two men came running down the stairs from the second floor. I don’t know why they didn’t respond to my calls. Perhaps they were scared. Perhaps they thought it was a trick. Perhaps they just wanted to kill me, and take the few meagre possessions I had managed to salvage when everything slid into the abyss. I cowered in a corner as they ran outside. Something had spooked them good, and one threw himself prone to cover their retreat while the other booked it into the convenience store across the street. The one lying in the road appeared to be a deserter from the army, maybe one of the soldiers who came to Chernarus before the end came, in a pitiful attempt to restore order. All I know is he was wearing camouflage fatigues, and was carrying an automatic rifle. The other looked like me – a ragged civilian who had survived by looting empty houses and sleeping by a campfire in the woods. I kept as still as I could, barely daring to watch them. I had a shotgun, sure, but no way to match their firepower should the bullets start to fly. They were both inside the store by now, covering each other as they ransacked the shelves for food, soda and whatever else they could carry. That had been my plan, but I decided that getting out of there with my skin intact rather than a haul of tinned goods would be the best I could now hope for. I stayed low. Then something went wrong. I don’t know what happened. I think the soldier went to go back outside, and stumbled right into one of the ... walkers. He started firing, but it was panicked, and sporadic, and within a few seconds he went down to a horrifically powerful blow to the head. His shots broke the stillness, and within seconds every one of the creatures I’d seen wandering the streets was running towards the store, boiling over each other in homicidal rage. The guy inside started wildly firing off his own pistol, emptying clip after clip into the horde. “C’mon, man”, I thought. “Stay focussed. Pick your targets and aim for the head.” But it was no use. As soon he took one down another darted inside, forcing him back into the store. Back towards the counter. Back towards an open door to the delivery area.... I don’t think he ever saw them. Just as he got alongside the door, another group burst through and fell on him. In an instant they were tearing at his flesh, pinning him down by force of numbers. He tried to get up, and for a brief second regained his feet, but he was surrounded on all sides and those things are relentless. My humanity kicked in. I burst from my hiding place and ran to the second floor, out onto the balcony that overlooked the scene of the massacre. I began emptying my rifle into the horde, shattering the shop windows and picking them off one by one. It seemed to take forever, and remains etched on my mind like a line drawing scratched into ancient metal. The noise of shattering glass, the thunder of my rifle, the moans of the dead and dying. But soon it was over. I left my perch and, pausing to shoot one more zombie that had turned up late, made my way inside the store. Bodies were everywhere – so many I couldn’t even see the floor. Everything was still and silent again. I looked at the two men, at their bloodstained corpses. I would never know why they hadn’t responded to me. This could all have been avoided. Then, like I had always done in the past, and would do many times in the future, I took what I needed and walked away, my footsteps ringing out through the empty city.

Forests too safe? Limit usage of matches?
Bottlerocket replied to Xantrim's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It depends on what you're long-term goals are. If you just want to survive, then getting camping gear and heading for the hills will achieve it. Congrats - you beat the game. But what then? Do you have any other goals, like getting a vehicle up and running? Or geting a tent an establishing a permanent base you can fill with different loot? DayZ is a sandbox - it's what you make of it. PS - I'd suggest that you do need morphine. You really don't want to get a broken leg way out there in the wilderness from stumbling over a rock, random zombie swipe or high-velocity round. -
Any stories you feel bad about?
Bottlerocket replied to basedgodtripp's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not sure what's worse - the fact you wasted your time posting this bullshit made-up story, or the fact you think it's something admirable. Bit o'both, I suppose. -
haha way to piss off a douchebag
Bottlerocket replied to ironpython's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A post I noticed earlier on that was almost Joycean in its bold rejection of the common idioms of speech and sentence structure. And no, I have no idea what he was on about :) -
I think when you get sniped you still hear the bullet 'hit' sound?

You should have invited some zombies to that party. -
this is getting a bit more frustrating then fun.
Bottlerocket replied to jackdstripper's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What were you expecting? "It's a fucking zombie apocalypse" But, seriously though - you need to learn the game, find good loot spots, work out tactics to get in/out from afar. Pro tip: Get off the coast when you spawn and roam the countryside. Find barns - a great source of hatchets (melee weapons) and possibly shotguns. -
Animal Companions& Vehicle Inventory

I got it aroung the part when zombies started dropping dog whistles and 'snake-cages'. :) Well played, good sir. -
Yep - server nuked yesterday and lost: Alice pack full of cooked meat, full camping gear (map, compass, matches, hatchet, flashlight, watch), bloodbags, bandages, morphine, epi-pen, M1911 and ammo, AKM and ammo, 2 water bottles, 100+zombie kills and a few tins o'beans and cokes. But seeing as dieing is what DayZ is all about, I just shrugged, sighed, and re-logged to start my quest for survival in this godforsaken zombie-infested nightmare land all over again :)

Nice story - but it's balderdash. Apart from the innacuracies pointd out so far, a silenced pistol won't break your leg. It's piss weak.

Yes, but once they catch on they are much more single-minded and focus on the task better. What? -

Oh, cause I was in an apartment building and came across a survivor - he claimed he had been talking to me in direct, but I didn't hear it. Luckily, Global was still on. And anytime I've tried to talk to someone in direct it has not worked. -
Why are people calling zombies zeds?
Bottlerocket replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
Wierdly, in the UK we say 'Zed' for 'Z', so it makes sense to me. But I call the mod 'DayZee'. Figure that one out. -
"White spots" highlighting zombies/players
Bottlerocket replied to SpiritSharD (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As stated, it's part of ArmA's engine. But its not much of a boost in DayZ - if you can see the dots it's pretty likely you'll also be hearing a lot of groaning, coughing and screaming, so it's kinda obvious that zombies are around. -

Good post op - I'm EU but have been playing on a US server with global chat still on, so I'll post details when I get home and can look in my notebook to see which one it was. On a side note - does anyone have proof that direct chat works? Typed, I mean. -
Do dead players turn into zombies?
Bottlerocket replied to zecele's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, they do not. Bodies stay for a while, attracting flies, so you can loot them. Then they simply disappear, although the flies seem to hang aroun for a bit. maybe they eat the bodies super fast? -
Was checkinh out the back route into Electro when this friendly fellow came along to help me spot for trouble. As thanks, I didn't eat him.
