  1. But this isn't counterstrike. If you want counterstrike, um, go play it? Playing DayZ solely for the PvP is like being given the keys to a Lambourghini and spending the day reverse parking, in my opinion.
  2. The simple fact of the matter is that at the moment we do not have to tools to play co-op unless you play with your friends. The devs have aknowledged this, and I hope that means we are going to move towards a system where we can actually interact without everyone shooting on sight. Instanced underground hideouts have been mentioned, where people can meet and team up. This would at least create areas where people can't ghost in and go on a murder spree. I'm all for PvP, and think dayZ is boss, but honestly - how much longevity is there is a game where you gather gear, get shot, gather gear, get shot, gather gear etc etc ad infinitum, ad absurdum, ad tedium? This isn't a PvP game. At least, not solely a PvP game. It's a zombie apocalypse simulator with PvP elements. That needs to be the focus. At the moment zombies may as well not exist. I'll give you an example: The other night I was in Cherno when I saw a player running down the street pursued by two zombies. I ducked into a shop and hunkered down, but he still came in and pumped a few shots into me - presumably while zombies were chewing on his ass? No way that should have happened. No-one should be able to take time out to PvP while they are under attack by zombies. Zombies need to be the threat, as much as players are. So in a way I blame a lot of those calling for zombie nerfs for the current state of the game, with regards to PvP.

A story about men.. and chickens.

    Have some beans!

    I lol'd, then i cried a bit..

Excellent tale, old chap. After the 'don't get attached to your gear rule', I've got another - don't push your luck! Roughly the same thing happened to me, only I got shot in the deerstand instead of Dc'ing. Ah well.

    Spread The Word: Surrender Key

OK - how do you do it?
  6. Bottlerocket

    Make zombies a player option

They're already in game - you can tell them by the way they sit on hillsides and tall buildings with sniper rifles.
  7. Thanks for the nice remarks. I kinda rationalise this by assuming that when the infection struck, it came from the south and everyone moved north as refugees. But the sickness came with them. So when you awake on the coast, you're really one of the last few refugees hoping to find sanctuary. Now, my char's job was to be a refugee co-ordinator. But everyone's dead, excpet bandits and survivors - and the last few people coming from the south. So she's gone back to try and help them out. She feels it was her duty. So far, so good - but try explaining all this in text chat, while staying in character, and at the same time reassuring someone you're not out to kill them. I'm sure someone, somewhere, was giving their monitor the blankest of all blank looks.
  8. Just putting these scrren shots up to show how close you can get to a zombie while prone and not have it aggro. Too much misinformation on the forums right now about Zeds aggroing from 100 mettres while you're stealthing. This is not the case - pics taken 12/7/12

New DayZ player inbound. Any tips/hints?

Coastal towns like Electro and Cherno - the big 2 - are where all new spawns go and are invariably deathmatches. Also, snipers tend to stake them out for easy kills. You can go there, of course. In fact I spawned at the docks in Electro today and made it out with my life intact, picking up basic supplies along the way. That said, I've been playing for a while and know what I'm doing. You're just more likely to face hostile players in either of those towns. The best bet is to get off the coast and head north, raiding barns and cowsheds along the way. Or follow the coast from the treeline to Berezino (it's quite far) doing the same. It's a big town but less populated at the moment, with 2 supermarkets, a hospital and military tents. Don't be completely distrusting of people you meet. I'm friendly and so are others, occasionally. Either avoid them or say "friendly" in general chat. Start shooting if they don't respond. Deer stands can be a good source of loot. They are out in the wilderness and always have 3 military zombies. You can find them because they are usually in the treeline at the top of an expanse of open ground. Above all - don't get attached to your stuff. You will die due to aggresive zombies, nervous players, bandits, hackers, doors, short drops, vehicle accidents, broken bones, ambushes, honey traps, blood loss, starvation, dehydration, exhaustion and general ennui. Accept it, and remember - the best bit of the game is the beginning.

    Barbed wire everywhere...

Any wire kits I find, I take them and dump them out in the country where they'll do no harm.

    Uniforms.. What? :/

Hmmm.... have to say it, but was it definitely a DayZ vid and not an Arma vid? Apart from that, it has to be hax. There's no military skins in the game, apart from the ones I've mentioned.

    Uniforms.. What? :/

It's either: 1) The old bandit skin (did they have scarves over their faces?). Now taken out of the game. 2)The camo skin - basic camoflague clothing skin (Were they wearing green t-shirts?) 3)Ghille sniper suit. Military spawn. (looks like a green wookie) Hope that helps. Could always be hax, I suppose.

    .

Yeah, that didn't work. People testing it got huge zombie trains then server hopped until they found others to sic em on. It's called 'emergent gameplay', meaning the devs cannot predict what people will do. Let's face it, What DayZ needs is a logout timer - one that you can interrupt if someone suddenly stumbles across your logout spot. They are in plenty of MMOs, so why not here?
  14. Well, we're getting dogs, so this may be the next step. Who knows? Mind you, I'm going to have a hard time getting over my dog dying - imagine what it's going to be like for female players losing their horsey......
  15. "wizard fun". Yah - it's a 1950s English public schoolboy's term for amazing. Like, "ripping", or "corking". "That was a wizard apple crumble, matron" one might say. Or "Shrewsbury gave Smeaton a wizard rollicking during latin prep this morning." It's fun to use old words.
  16. Thanks, Redhsift! I so want that emote to replace the salute one!

    LaDZ Night

Wow - OP comes up with thread, gets flamed, becomes hysterical, has meltdown. I don't think we're dealing with an imposter here, guys - she's the real deal. Seriously though, hope this works out for you. Don't let these trolls put you off.

    "Werewolves"

I'd sure like to see them "bares" .....
  19. My only real complaint with all this is that video is about as funny as getting kicked in the balls ... or punched in the tit, if you're female.
  20. Updated first post .... think I should have a third go?
  21. Bottlerocket

You know you play DayZ too much...

When you see a cow and think ... dinner! When you see a field and mentally scout out a route through it, hugging the trees and bushes.
  22. Good on you - wish more people tried this because actually getting a stranger to converse with you and helping them out is more satisfying than just killing them. I mean - there are a million games out there where you can kill players. Only one I can think of where you can attempt to bring an enemy on to your side. I had a thread about my experiments doing this so far - needs updated, but will do it soon after reading your post.

Zombies are NOT over-powered in 1.7.2

Ah - should have stressed that I was in that position for a while and they looked right at me. Just difficult to get a decent pic as they keep moving around.
  24. One more thing about the new aggro system - I've noticed that you can get quite close to a Zed crouch walking, but they will aggro the second you drop to go prone. I think either the movement or the sound triggers them off. On the whole, I approve of the new changes - but I would scale the aggro distance for crouching back just a bit. Keep the 100 metre radius for standing and running, but shift it back slightly. Then again, I'm sure once I work out what the safe distance is I'll change my mind. Dangerous zombies FTW!
  25. Just had a bug where I broke m'bones trying to crawl thorugh a door - I know it's been reported. But lost sound after coming out of shock, so logged out. When I logged back in I had the 'unconcious timer' going. Edit - woah, this is worse than I feared. After letting the timer run down, I'm now stuck in prone mode, hovering about 1ft off the ground. Can't move and logging out and loggin in just brings up the timer again. Think a respawn is on the cards? This happen to anyone else? Tickled pink that I get to report a real bug for a change. Edit II - after two tries at re-loadig, finally came free.
