Whenever I try to create my own character it just resets back to a female when I back out of it. Any way to stop this?

On my second life I found a compass and just ran NE, found a dead body on the way with a Mosin with no ammo. Eventually found NEAF and there was gear everywhere, found 2 M4s with attachments, assault vests, rucksacks, ammo, pistols!
