i dont think characters should be able to transfer to another server at all. you should be forced to have a seperate character for every server you play on. all this server hopping for vehicle parts and global loot economy is a bunch of ridiculous crap, server hopping should be impossible, not encouraged. the way the servers in this game are set up that allow characters to move from one server to another is by far the largest design flaw in this game imo. -

that is not a private server, that is a locked public server. there is a difference. you can not load a character from a private server onto a public one. -
the only people who spend hours getting geared up are noobs who havent learned how to play dayz yet, so your only stealing "valuable time" from noobs, that is if you can call playing videogames "valuable time".

the only thing that will change is that the chosen pvp city at that point in time will be more crowded, while the rest of the map will still be empty.

the mod had persistant tents and other persistant objects, and it never ended up like that, so why would the sa be any different?

while im glad they are adding more towns and cities to the map, i dont like them doing it at the expense of vast forested areas. if your going to add more towns/cities make the map bigger, dont play paul bunyon with our wilderness. -

if they didnt have private servers, the dayz mod would have been dead long ago, and we wouldnt have the standalone now. there is a reason official servers are never full, because most people dont want to play on them. -

there is no difficulty in ambushing people and gunning them down in this game either, so whats your point? different people like doing different things. i did the cod thing for a while when the sa came out, it got really boring and tedious pretty fast. there are plenty of other games i play that do gunplay much better than this game. currently i play to check out updates at this point and thats about it. but nobody can honestly say what is the "right way" to play the game, or what is fun or not for other people. and what i find enjoyable is challenging games, and there is nothing challenging about pvp or pve in this game currently. the other thing that makes pvp pretty boring in this game is the fact that we have disposable characters. death has no negative impact. losing gear is not a big deal, and it never will be, and currently, a character dieing has no negative impact either. -
or maybe since its a survival game some people dont go apeshit guns blazing as soon as they see other players. instead they stay out of sight till the other players pass then keep heading wherever they were going, only shooting other players when its necessary. just because you like to play gunfighter does not mean everyone likes to play that way. you dont get to define whats "fun" for everyone else.
