Not really, as you say you can just kill yourself to get a better spot. Its a shame really. It would be wicked to have suicide as a last resort option in the game, but right now its just a way for people to teleport closer to their friends...

Simple solution... Do a char wipe

I hope magazines and bullets become rare enough to develop into an economy in DayZ... Kinda like how they are in Metro 2033.

There definitely should be craftable tents and shelters. For example rope, Ash wood sticks, and a tarp could create a shelter known as a "bender" (by bending green ashwood sticks into a dome and chucking a tarp over the top).

I killed someone there the other day. My first conscious, calculated kill on sight... Well I saw him a while before I shot him, but he didn't see me.

What would you do if you were lost and looking for civilization in real life? Look for roads? Power lines? Train tracks?

What Weapons Warrant Being Hyper-Rare and/or Regulated?
doctorbadsign replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I don't think I like the idea of regulating the number of any item across all servers... If that is what this loot management system is... It encourages server hopping. -
It needs to be a balance between food being rare enough for hunger and starvation to factor into your decisions, but not so rare that it becomes a hindrance to everything else. At the moment I rarely worry about food unless I have just spawned in. Even less so when it comes to water... I don't even bother carrying drinks on me cause there is a well in pretty much every town. Perhaps in addition to your suggestions there should be a risk of getting an infection from the wells. Right now I just run up to them and spam F until I'm fully hydrated... Seems to take the point out of there being thirst in the game to begin with. I also think there should be more foraging/bushcraft type stuff in the game. Maybe an option for forage for plants that could be used for (not-very-substantial) nutrition or medicine. Edible mushrooms would be great and maybe roots that you can dig up etc. My ideal DayZ would be a game where I could just live off the land :)

I think everyone should stop referring to a video game in such a way as to assume that it is even plausible to achieve anything remotely close to realistic or authentic within that medium. It's a game, controlled with mouse and keyboard. Corners need to be cut here and there. Certain things are just plain infeasible. Other considerations such as it actually being entertaining also come into play. Sure we can push for certain mechanics to give the game a certain feel, but the game is never going to be realistic.

Three things that completely ruin the DayZ experience...
doctorbadsign replied to Daricles's topic in New Player Discussion
I think on hardcore servers at the very least the damage system should be redone. One hit with a fire axe should pretty much end you if you don't get adequate medical help fast. One bullet to any body part should pretty much incapacitate you obviously depending on the kind of round etc and whether or not you have a protective vest. This would make combat way riskier, because you won't think, maybe I'll kill this dude with my crowbar, because one hit from his axe will quite possibly kill me. The problem at the moment is that people can take loads of hits and still function normally, then they can just bandage after killing you, eat loads, find a well then they are fine. -
Signs to tell if someone is hostile

Fuck it just kill everyone -
I would be good, but also controversial. Perhaps this is why they are hesitant to add it?

Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode
doctorbadsign replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
3PP allows you to go prone on a roof top with your gun and watch as a guy runs around waiting until their back is turned and you have a good shot. All the while not risking any detection whatsoever because you can see down over the edge, but they can't see up over it. The only reason I can think of that people would only want to play in this mode with such advantages is if they are the person doing the above or similar. Or they are stupid enough to want an uneven playing field in an inherently competitive game. -

I love hardcore. I use regular for when I want to fuck around and not care. Hardcore is when I want to get really into it. -
Make server restart warning compulsory
doctorbadsign replied to General Zod's topic in General Discussion
This I agree with entirely. I hate it when a server restarts without warning, especially if I am in a building. It makes me look like one of those server hopping douchebags. -
What is the best pistol in DayZ SA?
doctorbadsign replied to MIKEMONSTER's topic in General Discussion
I don't care about science and magazine capacity and all that crazy shit. I'll take a magnum every time. -
Definition of Bandit vs Murderer?
doctorbadsign replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
I agree. The only times I've ever been KoS'ed has been when I've not been paying attention to anything, just running around absent mindedly looking for cool loot. I totally deserved to die on every single one of those occasions. Whenever I am actually absorbed fully in the experience I don't let other players even know I'm there. This is pretty easy to do. Just scope out each town before you approach, look for opened doors and signs of movement. Know what you are after and where you might find it then head in with a plan. If you are prepared 9 times out of 10 you will see dozens of players and sneak off before they even know you're around. -
Server hopping for a compass  that is new. I find at least 3 lying around with each char. Look around the map. Also you can navigate without a compass anyway.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
doctorbadsign replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
More difficult does not equal better in my opinion. For me zombies have a few defining characteristics in gaming. Firstly they are fun to kill. Mowing down zombies with whatever you can find is meant to be exhilarating and fun. The God-awful clunky melee system and the fact that fire arms spawn an unending stream of zombies in DayZ makes them no fun. They are a hassle. As I said before they just get in the way of whatever else you are doing. For a zombie game to have zombies that make you feel like this is pretty piss-poor. Secondly zombies are meant to be scary. The zombies in DayZ are not close to being scary. Its very rare that they surprise you. Mostly you see them standing there like dumbfounded morons waiting for you to come near. If you don't see them you hear them. I've never had a true jump scare out of the zombies. Aside from fixing the fact that they walk through walls, they really need to fix the melee system as well as making some attempt to add horror to the zombies. The predictable element needs to be removed entirely. Maybe then the zombies will be fun and exciting to deal with. All I experience now is the heart sinking feeling when I hear yet another zombie aggro and the frustration that comes with using the melee system and the zombie being able to hit you from miles away... -
I agree I would wait until the intentions of the person become clear. I don't actually support the notion in my post but it is logical given the current state of the game. Something really needs to be done to make the humiliation of being mugged not as bad as dying. Otherwise the only logical course of action is to try and take as many of them with you as you can.
-
Being forced to drop all your gear is the same as dying in DayZ except for one crucial thing, you lose your dignity in submitting to another player. If you run at them with an axe or fire wildly at them, you will end up in the same position, albeit in a different location (at the coast with no gear as opposed to where you were with no gear). There is as yet no logical reason to comply with muggers.

Mushrooms would be cool. There should also be a book in game that tells you which ones are safe to eat. Traps would be wicked too. Either for keeping your camp safe, or finding food.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
doctorbadsign replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Everyone mentions the navigation and path finding of the zombies as being the defining factor in their improvement. The main issue with the zombies for me is that they are fucking irritating. All they are really is a disruption to whatever else you are trying to do. They fail at being scary, they fail at being entertaining to kill. In other words they fail as zombies. Whenever I hear them aggro at me, I think "oh for fucks sake". It's been like that since the mod. Obviously not walking through walls is an improvement, but they are still no where near the standard I'd like to see. I want them to be fun to kill in small numbers, and absolutely brick shittingly exhilarating in large numbers. All they are now is irritating and I really hope that changes. -
Safe zones that turn off PVP = campers/griefers paradise... If you want to annex an area, or create a manned camp once tents are in, then that would be wicked. But there should never be a safe zone added by the devs

Yeah really cool designs. I mean at the moment the interface does its job, but its kinda like one of those poor websites you find that are in Times New Roman. Even a minor font change would help.
