I don't KoS, but if I see you in game I'll probably shoot you
-
Bollocks. Killing people on sight isn't human nature, its the behaviour of a psychopath or an extremely unstable individual. If you think you could survive alone, killing everyone you see without being crippled by loneliness, insanity and guilt, then you probably have been playing too many video games. This whole "killing on sight is what people would actually do cause DayZ is a super intellectual social experiment" is bullshit. People kill on sight in DayZ because it is the easiest play style and because its a video game.
-
I think it does need a balance. By balance I don't mean removing from the game, I mean making it so that it is as challenging as any other play style. Otherwise it totally weighs the game down to being KoS heavy. Because killing on sight is the easiest way to play; it negates risk, has rewards and no negatives, it is only logical that most players will play like that, thus making every other play style that more difficult. All it needs is a few mechanics to either make KoS more risky or other play styles more rewarding. Nothing is penalized or removed, just balanced a bit.

I don't really KOS often, but I think the reasoning is simple. It negates having to trust strangers, it can give you loads of loot thus saving you in-game hours, plus it has no negative consequences. It makes logical sense when you look at it like that, as all the other things you could do upon seeing a player have potential negative outcomes. Its down to the devs to balance that, people often blame the players for being arseholes and whatnot, but really what they do makes logical sense. People need to request that the devs balance the game a bit more, not moan at people for seizing the initiative.

More than likely because you came here to whine about it. They like your tears, and get sexy kicks from reading topics like this.

Having recovered from an addiction to nicotine, and seen the negative consequences of it. I really don't think that it should be actively or passively promoted anywhere whatsoever. They could add it and have a negative health effect on the player, but then it does seem rather pointless having it. It should make your sprinting distance shorter, being out of breath for longer, shakes if you haven't had a smoke for a while etc. Adding it because it is "cool" is facile and promotes a dangerous outlook.

How to change status condition to english?

Did you buy it from one of those second hand game key sites? You may have accidentally paid for a Russian key. -
I think that DayZ is about more than PVP. Sure it is a factor in the game, but the potential for other forms of interaction is what keeps it interesting. DayZ isn't tense because I know you're going to fight me, DayZ is tense because I don't know whether you are going to be friendly, or deceitful, or aggressive. I have to be on the ball because the instant I make a false assumption, I either lose my character or I miss out on meeting someone interesting. Personally I think there should be more zombies (once they work properly), killing on sight is the easiest way to play DayZ, it has instant rewards that no other play style affords. I don't want to be one of those who says KOS should be removed from the game, but I do think the game needs balancing so that it is as hard as any other play style. One way to do this is to make zombies a threat and make them hone in on gunshots. KOS is by no means an invalid way to play, but as things stand it is way easier than doing anything else, which totally unbalances the game and stops it from reaching its full potential.

I'm not sure that it would really add anything to the game, considering that you can heal in other ways. They'd also have to be careful not to appear to promote drug use as that could get the game banned in some countries. I don't think its worth it for the minute pleasure that you might get out of smoking a joint in DayZ. Just smoke one as you're playing it if you must.

In what way does your friend get better performance? Higher FPS? What is his setup compared to yours? Does he use the same graphics settings? At this moment in time some graphics settings in DayZ will cause your game to run slowly, there are guides out there as to what to turn on/off in order to make the game a bit more smooth. Hopefully we'll be able to max out the graphics settings in DayZ at release but for now they cost too much in terms of performance.

I don't see that it would be that difficult to do controls for DayZ. Excluding the gestures I don't see that there would be an issue with mapping most of the main controls. It might be slightly limited but definitely workable.

Know your role, and stick to your words.

Sticking to one play style is boring. For the most part I'm a friendly survivor, but if the mood takes me I'll kill on sight. -
The thing people don't seem to realise is that the solution to KOS should not be written into the game. It should be written by the players themselves. If you don't like it. Form an anti-KOS alliance with people, go around servers and protect people from KOS'ers. Capture them. Do whatever. You could go in with enough people and secure a town to make a safe zone. All these things are possible if you want them. People should stop looking to the devs to put the changes into the game itself, make the changes as a player.

This. I see even camo'ed players instantly if they are sprinting.
-
I much prefer "Drop your weapon and get on the floor, if you turn around I'll kill you" After which you can gauge whether they are friendly and compliant or not.

If it occurred the instant you spawned in, the perhaps make a bug report about it on the tracker.

Clearing this up: DayZ is NOT years afterwards
doctorbadsign replied to bobotype3334's topic in General Discussion
I'd say heavily rusted vehicles all about the place gives some indication that a lot of time has passed, or at least could be used to argue that point. And the buildings seem to be going for that abandoned post apocalyptic look, because the designers seem to like that aesthetic---and that's fine. I just don't think they are particularly bound by making things entirely consistent which is precisely why people can use anything to argue their opinion of when the game is set. -

Personally I don't think they have given much thought to the consistency as far as the time setting of the game goes. Parts of it indicate that the game occurs very soon after the initial events, other parts indicate that it is some time after... I think they go with an aesthetic that looks good, and add items that seem cool. Doesn't seem like anyone goes "does this fit with a recent event or a while after?"... -
I am of the ilk that don't like to use maps or any source to guide my progress. Not that I have a problem with those that do, but for me it takes away from the game experience. I haven't died of dehydration yet but I am finding thirst hard to manage for the first time.
-
You playing on stable 0.50? I'm sure most people are dying from dehydration on that build since the wells don't work.

Unfortunately you may find that people have a hard time trusting you if you don't use your voice. In your case this would seem very harsh, but the fact of the matter is that often when people only type to communicate, it means that they are talking with their friend and telling them what is happening. Try not to take it too personally if you do get killed when you don't use your voice. Although anyone reading this topic might want to take this into account when they meet a player who does not use voice chat. I hope this doesn't put you off the game, and I hope other players will be more considerate and less paranoid when people don't use a mic after reading this.

A huge truck... [i think I have been playing too much Euro Truck Simulator]

I kinda feel that chernarus needs to be "blown up"
doctorbadsign replied to 5mirkeh's topic in Suggestions
I am generally bored with Chernarus as it is. The new parts are fun to explore for sure, but what I really want post release is for the map design folks to make something unique. My favourite part of DayZ during the mod was when I felt lost, it added another aspect to survival that is now gone for me. I think yearly map updates would be the best thing to keep that feeling alive among players. When I spawn in Chernarus I know where I am and where to go to get what I want, this meta-game knowledge spoils the fun a bit. -
Lead Producer of DayZ says, "1PP is better"
doctorbadsign replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
If you can afford to do so, get a TrackIR... Then 1PP really is way way better. DayZ/Arma with TrackIR is so immersive and fun. -

I wish people would make more 1pp servers. There really aren't enough.
