Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?

God, why do so many people think DayZ should be how they want it to be? The only way you'll get a game exactly how you make it is by making your own one. What you really mean is; "I really don't want DayZ to be a game that turns out differently to how I want it". When it comes to competitive games, people exploit things that give them the edge, its just the way it goes. Things such as communicating via another program have no fix. The only thing you can do is make it more of an advantage to use in-game communication---which would be difficult as hell to achieve. Forcing people's mics to be always on will never work. Why? Because I could unplug my mic, and use my phone to skype people whilst playing. I can hear everyone else and no one can hear me..... I have a massive advantage and no one can stop me.

I agree to an extent. However, mic always on = bigger advantage to people who can easily bypass it against those who chose not to. In other words it will achieve the opposite of what you want. Ergo leave it as it is.

Not everyone has or can afford a good mic. I am picking at things that make having a mic always on a stupid idea. Such as the fact that it would be stupidly easy to bypass...

Well to be fair you can communicate via hand signals, whispering and radios etc IRL. Seeing as these things aren't in game, you could say that TS or Skype is just a replacement for these missing features. No self-respecting bandit is going to shout his plans out for everyone within a certain distance to hear. You could argue that this proposal is therefore less realistic. Anyway immersion is not the only deciding factor in the game's features or in this argument. We have privacy concerns, and the fact that having a mic always on is easy to bypass, ergo the disadvantage will be bigger to those who don't use Skype/TS if it is implemented. In other words people will find a way around it, communicate in outside software, whilst being able to hear you and kill you easily.

Can't always be helped. You are playing with you're headphones on, someone in the same room wants to listen to music...

For you maybe. But what about all this stuff about being hardcore and getting super into the game? Its fine to play like that, I've been known to get properly into DayZ from time to time, but how the hell does hearing random conversations/music/whatever fit into the whole realism/immersion thing. It would totally break it for a lot of people. Conclusion: this idea is a ridiculous, privacy invading, immersion ruining, easily bypass-able farce. I'm done here, you seem like you're trolling now rather than making any attempts to respond properly.

And I don't want you hearing that kind of stuff. It would make no sense in terms of immersion and realism anyway. All it would seem like is someone having an ordinary and dull conversation with an invisible person. How does that make sense in game? What if I someone is listening to music? Or someone is watching a random documentary about sharks really loudly? Stupidest idea ever.

I often randomly get a knock on my door whilst playing a game to talk about stuff like that. All it would take is for me to forget briefly to mute my mic... That is not out of the question. Also, as I said it is a matter of principle. I value my privacy and I don't want to have to opt-out of people being able to hear everything that I say whilst I'm on a game. This is not asking a lot really. Sure it would mostly be idle chatter, but I don't care, how is me talking to someone going to improve your immersion in DayZ anyway? You really want to hear me asking my girlfriend what she fancies having for dinner today and such as you're strolling through Chenarus? It's a dumb idea on so many levels. Let it go.

In most instances no one would care, this is true. However I sometimes discuss bank transfers with housemates for bills etc. I do not want the risk of this being overheard in case some bank details are talked about, just because I forgot to mute my mic. Sure the risk is slim but still. Also you'd get douches who would inevitably pick up some random conversation during a live stream and post it everywhere online, without anyone's consent. In any case for me, it is a matter of principle. I value my privacy and I do not want it invaded by having the audio in my room broadcast to some randoms over the internet regardless of what is said. I want to have control over when people can hear me and when they cannot and not to have to worry whether the mic is on when I'm talking to people IRL. I know it is just a suggestion, but it is shit. It won't stop anyone as soon as a bypass is found everyone will do it, and those who don't will be raped by those who do.

    How about adding locks?

If you can craft a bomb/place an alarm clock inside a case then locks would be amazing. "Here dude I found this box, its locked and I don't have room for it in my inventory, if you can find a crowbar you can get it open though, you might find something cool inside it" [Moments later] *tick tick tick BOOOOM!!* or *BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!* [all the zombies come a-runnin']

combat logging: a constructive thread ?

Could just shoot them before they see you ;)

It's not that hard Rocket (combat logging comment)

I too have been frustrated by combat logging today... But I just decided I'd stop playing the Alpha until its fixed along with server hopping/ghosting etc (seeing as it is the only game ruiner at the moment for me). It's Christmas let the guys have a break, you don't have to play the game as it is, but if you do, you'll have to deal with combat logging.

People over exaggerate KOS so much.

Who is more foolish, the fool who complains about being killed on sight, or the fool who complains about the fool for complaining about being killed on sight? What I am trying to say is; do we need another topic?

Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?

I just view people using Skype and TS as though they are communicating via hand signals, or whispering. I mean no self-respecting bandit would shout 'oh there's a guy over there, take him down!' for everyone in the area to hear. Sure communication from one end of Chernarus to the other is a bit far fetched, but it's not the end of the world. As stated above, despite concerns over privacy, there is no way mic always being on could work.

Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?

Whilst I'm playing DayZ I often talk to people IRL about things I don't necessarily want random people hearing. I don't want to have to think about muting my mic to avoid this. Much of what I say might not be anything to worry about, but I do sometimes discuss things I don't want just anyone to hear---and I don't want to have to think twice before saying them. Its a nice thought and all to try level the playing field etc. But you're idea is flawed and if implemented I would stop playing the game on principle. Privacy is privacy, I don't care how fucking in depth and realistic you want your experience to be, no one is going to get away with building a system into a game that allows people to hear a constant stream of what I am saying outside of that game. I doubt it is even bloody legal. Deal with it :)
  18. KOS is not the only option... Hiding is an option. Running is an option. Assessing the situation based upon the level of threat and acting accordingly is an option. Trusting is an option too, but you shouldn't get surprised if this ends up with you being dead.

Mic always on? No way I'd ever want that. No way I'd ever agree to that. Just no way. I don't want people listening in on my conversations. If this is even a problem the only way it can be solved is to make direct communication more beneficial than skype or teamspeak---which would be hard, or impossible. But hey, you make the assumption that it is even a problem in the first place.

    PvE servers to cure KoS?

People don't seem to get the moral depth of DayZ---which would simply cease to exist if KOS were removed. A while back on the mod I came across another player who cried 'friendly' repeatedly outside the firestation in Cherno. I replied that I'm friendly too, then ran out, climbed a ladder onto a platform overlooking the station. My immediate thought was to do this in case they were bluffing and just wanted an opportunity to kill me when my back was turned. I saw him run out, and he'd clearly forgotten about our encounter, assuming I was no threat. Then the question struck me 'should I shoot him anyway?' perhaps he needed a lesson in not being so trusting... 'Should I just do it anyway, just because I can?' I decided not to, but the whole dilemma and fact that I was contemplating the morality of my options in a game is something I haven't experienced before. If it was 'I can't shoot him cause the admin will ban me' then you've just removed a whole dimension to the game. Sure some wouldn't have had such a thought process and would have shot as soon as they heard the word 'friendly' but again this is part of the moral landscape in DayZ. The collapse of civilization would bring totally new moral dilemmas for us to face, and some, in the absence of law and order would kill just to survive. Some would also kill just because they can. KOS brings a lot of depth to DayZ if you ask me. And this is coming from someone who rarely engages in it.

    PvE servers to cure KoS?

Pfffttt Zombies are frankly boring, and easy as shit to handle. The thing that makes the whole game for me is the paranoia and stealthiness that comes with the potential to bump into other players. Remove that and you have no game really. I try not to KOS, but that doesn't mean I want it removed, the threat that it could occur or that I could find myself in a situation in which I have no choice improves the game for me.

    PvE servers to cure KoS?

What is the difference between PvP and PvE servers? I don't understand, why is it worse that a player bandit kills you than an AI one? AI bandits definitely aren't going to hold you up or say hello before shooting you. I don't understand, if you don't mind dying to AI enemies, why do you mind dying to players? It makes no sense to me.

Kill on sight... my group is doing it now

Why does it bother new spawns? They have fuck all to lose. Just run at the person screaming things that will haunt their dreams.
  24. What exactly is it that people don't like about KOS? How is it any different from dying of starvation or zombies?
  25. I think people who server hop should respawn at the beach... But their character should be given a giant dunce hat that they cannot remove ;)
