It's not that hard Rocket (combat logging comment)
doctorbadsign replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
I too have been frustrated by combat logging today... But I just decided I'd stop playing the Alpha until its fixed along with server hopping/ghosting etc (seeing as it is the only game ruiner at the moment for me). It's Christmas let the guys have a break, you don't have to play the game as it is, but if you do, you'll have to deal with combat logging. -
Who is more foolish, the fool who complains about being killed on sight, or the fool who complains about the fool for complaining about being killed on sight? What I am trying to say is; do we need another topic?

Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
doctorbadsign replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I just view people using Skype and TS as though they are communicating via hand signals, or whispering. I mean no self-respecting bandit would shout 'oh there's a guy over there, take him down!' for everyone in the area to hear. Sure communication from one end of Chernarus to the other is a bit far fetched, but it's not the end of the world. As stated above, despite concerns over privacy, there is no way mic always being on could work. -
Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
doctorbadsign replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Whilst I'm playing DayZ I often talk to people IRL about things I don't necessarily want random people hearing. I don't want to have to think about muting my mic to avoid this. Much of what I say might not be anything to worry about, but I do sometimes discuss things I don't want just anyone to hear---and I don't want to have to think twice before saying them. Its a nice thought and all to try level the playing field etc. But you're idea is flawed and if implemented I would stop playing the game on principle. Privacy is privacy, I don't care how fucking in depth and realistic you want your experience to be, no one is going to get away with building a system into a game that allows people to hear a constant stream of what I am saying outside of that game. I doubt it is even bloody legal. Deal with it :) -
Got killed by 4 guys who said they were friendly, what a joke...
doctorbadsign replied to Miza's topic in General Discussion
KOS is not the only option... Hiding is an option. Running is an option. Assessing the situation based upon the level of threat and acting accordingly is an option. Trusting is an option too, but you shouldn't get surprised if this ends up with you being dead. -
Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
doctorbadsign replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Mic always on? No way I'd ever want that. No way I'd ever agree to that. Just no way. I don't want people listening in on my conversations. If this is even a problem the only way it can be solved is to make direct communication more beneficial than skype or teamspeak---which would be hard, or impossible. But hey, you make the assumption that it is even a problem in the first place. -
People don't seem to get the moral depth of DayZ---which would simply cease to exist if KOS were removed. A while back on the mod I came across another player who cried 'friendly' repeatedly outside the firestation in Cherno. I replied that I'm friendly too, then ran out, climbed a ladder onto a platform overlooking the station. My immediate thought was to do this in case they were bluffing and just wanted an opportunity to kill me when my back was turned. I saw him run out, and he'd clearly forgotten about our encounter, assuming I was no threat. Then the question struck me 'should I shoot him anyway?' perhaps he needed a lesson in not being so trusting... 'Should I just do it anyway, just because I can?' I decided not to, but the whole dilemma and fact that I was contemplating the morality of my options in a game is something I haven't experienced before. If it was 'I can't shoot him cause the admin will ban me' then you've just removed a whole dimension to the game. Sure some wouldn't have had such a thought process and would have shot as soon as they heard the word 'friendly' but again this is part of the moral landscape in DayZ. The collapse of civilization would bring totally new moral dilemmas for us to face, and some, in the absence of law and order would kill just to survive. Some would also kill just because they can. KOS brings a lot of depth to DayZ if you ask me. And this is coming from someone who rarely engages in it.

Pfffttt Zombies are frankly boring, and easy as shit to handle. The thing that makes the whole game for me is the paranoia and stealthiness that comes with the potential to bump into other players. Remove that and you have no game really. I try not to KOS, but that doesn't mean I want it removed, the threat that it could occur or that I could find myself in a situation in which I have no choice improves the game for me.

What is the difference between PvP and PvE servers? I don't understand, why is it worse that a player bandit kills you than an AI one? AI bandits definitely aren't going to hold you up or say hello before shooting you. I don't understand, if you don't mind dying to AI enemies, why do you mind dying to players? It makes no sense to me.

Kill on sight... my group is doing it now

Why does it bother new spawns? They have fuck all to lose. Just run at the person screaming things that will haunt their dreams. -
Discussion : KoS Mentality and how to keep it to minimum
doctorbadsign replied to LeoIvanov's topic in General Discussion
What exactly is it that people don't like about KOS? How is it any different from dying of starvation or zombies? -
Ghosting,Loot Farming (server hopping),Combat Logging. Possible Solution.
doctorbadsign replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
I think people who server hop should respawn at the beach... But their character should be given a giant dunce hat that they cannot remove ;) -
Third person view removal from SA discussion
doctorbadsign replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
As the option is there for 3rd person, I don't think it is right that people should berate those who choose to play in that view as somehow cheating. Its a feature of the game at the moment, and thus people are free to do as they please. I think the best option is separate servers. Sure you might not get as many players, but why not try to reason with people and show them why 1st person is better rather than accusing them of cheating and being poor players etc? Then you might win some people round. At the moment all these people getting irate and wanting 3rd person removed entirely and throwing around accusations of cheating are just making me want to use it to piss them off. -

Your fault for trusting them. -

doctorbadsign replied to Zeeb (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I think you're ideas are good Zeeb and you should look to implementing them somewhat down the line when DayZ becomes available to modders. I don't think they will suit everyone however, so I don't agree that they should be put into the main game. -
Things like this will happen whilst the game is in Alpha. There is a problem with zombies and players clipping through walls. I am sure it will be fixed in time, don't let it bother you too much. EDIT: Yes, and report the issue :)

1. The fact that people come here to whine about their new spawn being killed makes people actively want to shoot new spawns 2. Why make new spawns invulnerable? Why is your character so special to you before you have anything? To me new spawns are as good as invincible cause I don't give a shit when I die as a new spawn. Fuck it just start over, I lost a few easy to find items. 3. How is people killing you stopping you from testing the game? Avoiding other players is easy, you just gotta have your wits about you. Don't run around towns standing up straight, crouch and move slowly, stick behind cover and always look to see if anyone is moving near you. Also don't run around areas where there is bound to be loads of people. Go off into the countryside. With 40 players on a server, you can easily play without meeting anyone, just gotta avoid the places that everyone goes to. -
Help I need to calm down...!
doctorbadsign replied to CGNoodlePot (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Why would you want to stop that feeling? What other games get you going like that? I was attacked by a guy with an axe earlier, I ran out of the building pulled out my pistol and gunned him down. My heart was racing but its all about keeping a cool head and trying to solve the situation as best you can, just like real life :) -

doctorbadsign replied to Zeeb (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I agree with the idea of making the character rather than gear more valuable. The disappointment I receive upon dying is directly proportional to the quality of my gear rather than the amount of time I have spent playing. This wouldn't and shouldn't stop KOS, but people would probably be more cautious and avoid killing on sight in situations that may risk their character. The things that make your character valuable need to be things that do no give you a huge advantage over other players. Having to team up to raid certain places would also be cool. A huge horde at each military spawn point would be cool, so that the chances of you coming out alive or unharmed when going alone are less than 50/50. This could be cool because you'd have to team up and possibly make uneasy truces with people... And how knows what kind of shit would go down once you get out safely? You'd likely get people who want to kill you straight away after doing this, but hey you've just looted a military base so the chances are you're on level ground gear wise. Interaction should definitely be encouraged, but I don't think it should always be positive. As I say making uneasy truces and bargains would add a whole other level to interaction in the game. -
I'm always down for some teaming up :) if anyone would like my Steam just send a PM

Finding a gun is too easy. Spawn at Balota, come out geared up like a God I found an M4 and enough bullets not to have to worry about them on at least 2 occasions.

Why do we already have so many 24/7 daylight servers?
doctorbadsign replied to Gingerizhere's topic in General Discussion
Possibly because thousands of people on here were moaning about it being night time?? -
I don't mind there being snipers in dayz (although no stupidly overpowered ones) However I think if you fire a shot you should get a fuckload of zombies heading your way, so you need to move after each shot and be a lot more careful and tactical.

Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
doctorbadsign replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
I think there are different kinds of KOS, so people should be clear when they are talking about it. The first kind is self preservation/defence. This is perfectly understandable in my view. You walk into a room and see an armed player before they see you, you have a split second to make the decision and ask yourself 'if I don't shoot now, will (s)he shoot me as soon as (s)he seems me?'. Given that a high percentage of players would shoot you upon seeing you, killing someone on sight in such a scenario is rational and understandable. The second kind is pretty much for the lolz. This is less understandable to me. But is certainly fed by people's reactions. Any kind of distressed/angry response is giving the killer what they want. Basically nothing can be done to stop people from doing this. The only thing you can change is your response. When someone kills you as an unarmed player you have lost very little, and they have gained very little---there is no real need to go super mega apeshit over it. The first kind of KOS is endemic, but it doesn't have to be. Every single player who doesn't like KOS either goes lone wolf, plays with a few trusted people, or starts to KOS themselves as a reaction. Thus KOS grows and grows. However there are enough people who would be friendly out there, they just don't play that way because of KOS. I know it's meta-gaming and some people don't like that, but friendlies could start groups and communities, we can now add other friendlies on Steam and play with them. Once people who have lost trust in other players start seeing that trust restored by groups of friendlies KOS might start to decline, or at least those who KOS because of KOS will think twice. That's what I think anyway. -
Temporary solution for server-hopping already in place? (true or not)
doctorbadsign replied to t-monk's topic in General Discussion
I think there needs to be limitations on it. Say I go make my dinner, close the game, come back to find the server I was originally on full and wish to join a new one---my character should not in my opinion get deleted for this. However hopping servers to gear up or get out of combat should be penalized. The time between leaving one server and joining another has to be a factor.
