Stories of "Being Helpful"
doctorbadsign replied to JohnTheCynic (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The only people I've really ever helped out in DayZ is friends. That's not to say I kill other people, but I would rather not help them. -
Worried About Hall's Departure?
doctorbadsign replied to dusty_nuttles's topic in General Discussion
I think the reaction to all this is way too out of proportion. I must admit it did ring alarm bells when he announced his intentions along with he statement that the game was fundamentally flawed as a concept. However I went straight to his twitter and reddit and was quickly assured that nothing was awry---it amazes me that no one else seems to have done the same choosing instead to partake in furious speculation. What happened; Dean said that he intends to leave when he is no longer needed which may be by the end of the year, or longer. Then in a mixture of poor wording and poor journalism he said he thought the game was flawed. Really what the journalist should have done is asked him what exactly he meant by that, but they seem to have gone down the sensationalist route and neglected to do so, or even worse neglected to publish any explanation he did offer. I think he was simply being transparent about the flaws and limitations of DayZ, flaws and limitations which we are all aware of as players. What he did not say was that the game was irreparably broken and will never be finished. People should really stop reading this into his statement. As supporters of DayZ I think Eurogamer owes it to Dean Hall to explain itself and undo this sensationalist shitstorm that it has created. -
Concretely: what differs the pro from the noob?
doctorbadsign replied to MarchmelloMan's topic in New Player Discussion
Head inland. Don't run across fields or in the middle of roads. Be patient. Think about what you're doing. Maintain situational awareness. Have a plan. -
Yup this is it. This is the end. Dean Hall is leaving when he is no longer needed. EVERYTHING IS FUCKED. We were all ripped off, its a fraud. He's leaving the game unfinished and running off to bathe in our money whilst snorting coke off a gold plated hooker.

What to do when I first spawn...
doctorbadsign replied to amazingmazer's topic in New Player Discussion
That is generally frowned upon as 'server hopping' If you can I'd stay on the same server as long as possible :) -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
doctorbadsign replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
So Rocket seems to have been a victim of some perhaps poorly chosen words taken out of context. I have read some of his follow up comments etc. I feel like this shitstorm is a bit excessive. He is basically leaving when he is no longer needed, and his comment about the game being flawed is being blown way out of proportion. Time to calm down I think. -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
doctorbadsign replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
"I feel like DayZ is a fundamentally flawed concept," he went on, "and I've always recognised that. It's not the perfect game; it's not the multiplayer experience, and it never can be, [with] the absolute spark that I want in it." (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-02-24-dean-hall-to-leave-bohemia-and-step-down-as-leader-of-dayz) He may have told people not to buy the game, but in many of the pre-alpha streams and videos etc he'd say 'I'm super excited' about such and such. This can be construed as hyping up the game. Anyway its less about what he said to the public and more about his own excitement for the game, in those pre-alpha streams he seemed really excited about the game. Now it seems like he'd rather do something else. You have to ask what has changed. -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
doctorbadsign replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
I think a lot of people are speculating too far within this topic. However I can sympathize with the doomsayers. Something does make me worried when a guy who spent over a year hyping up DayZ has now said it is flawed and will never be the game he wants it to be. It just seems odd. Has he realised that DayZ will never match his vision? Or what? -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
doctorbadsign replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Pre-release Hall seemed pretty much like "I'm totally excited about everything" Strange how now he's like "its never gonna be the perfect game". Going by that I think he should be replaced. You need someone who believes in what they are doing or else it is doomed to fail. Might as well replace him now... Also based upon that I don't think I'd be much interested in any of these other ideas he has -
Not necessarily, just remove guns from Balota half the problem will be solved

I think the issue is people assume that the reason you are not using voice chat is because you're communicating with team mates via TS or Skype.

Doors With Noise Do You Want It
doctorbadsign replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
How would you close them? -
I'd actually say the opposite. DayZ takes a lot of getting used to. This dawned on me when my brother recently got the game and was explaining his frustrations to me. Night time is too dark, legs breaking, screen gone black and white etc. There are no explanations offered for any of the in game functions and systems. I'd wager that a big percentage of those who bought DayZ, played for a while, got frustrated and haven't gone back to it. With no outside help or sources DayZ would be incredibly hard. Most of us, whether it was in the mod or later during the standalone probably had to look up things online in order to actually be able to understand the game let alone survive. I'd say DayZ is pretty hard, it just doesn't seem it for those who've played the mod, know the map and spend time on the forums understanding all mechanics, bugs, and so forth.

Approximate percentage of female DayZ players
doctorbadsign replied to elLoCo's topic in General Discussion
I agree. Nudity is unnecessary and can only lead to abuse. The same as having 'bodily functions' in game, not necessary and will just lead to people doing fucked up shit. -
How many bought it, didn't like it and stopped playing it though? I mean 1.5 million is a big number but if its just people who've bought it, it says nothing about how many like it . EDIT: However I do wish to say grats to the devs on their success. To them its all money in the bank ;)

Should the dot crosshair be removed from hardcore servers?
doctorbadsign replied to ztranger's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I feel no need for it really... -
Animals - A discussion / I'm excited for this..
doctorbadsign replied to Mr Jizz's topic in General Discussion
I can't wait for the day when I can set up camp in the middle of nowhere and stay out of everyone's way hunting animals until I need to go into a town to do a supply run... That's the DayZ I want. -
Did you really put in heart attacks?
doctorbadsign replied to DayzForumer's topic in General Discussion
I figured that this would mostly be something to do with going into shock, and then subsequently undergoing cardiac arrest? I never suspected random heart attacks, but whatever... -
I tried to live of berries in the previous build. That didn't go so well. I didn't find a single berry and then reached the brink of starvation and decided it would be much better to find some beans haha

I can't wait until I can live in the woods on DayZ and not ever have to go near another player

update 0.36.115535 - disappointing!
doctorbadsign replied to timedance's topic in General Discussion
I really like the update, especially the wetness etc. That baby is going to change how we play BIGTIME. It doesn't do anything yet and we don't have fire to dry off, but I can totally see why they are introducing it in baby steps, as it will totally change the game and needs to be done right. -
I dunno how they could do it. Maybe have the grass render much further whilst looking through a scope, but not at all times? That way performance wouldn't be hit too badly and the advantage would be removed. Then again, you should know that to a sniper whilst you might think you're in cover, you're not.

I disagree. Why would there only be 1 jacket and a couple of other sundry items per house? If the game were realistic, which it is not, nor will it ever be fully. Every house would have far more clothes, food. Not to mention that every house would also have a fucking can opener! I'd agree with you if the houses spawned a realistic level of loot, but they don't and I don't think they ever will. Thus respawning loot is the way to go. It's either that or just encourage server hopping forever.

New Update Rolling out on experimental 0.36.115535
doctorbadsign replied to Rancor's topic in General Discussion
I'm really excited about the wet having an effect. I can imagine being caught out in the rain and heading to the nearest shelter and then having to defend it against anyone else who might be looking for shelter too. Sounds like a wicked gameplay changer... -
The people who look down on bandits and KoS players = annoying?
doctorbadsign replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I've come to the conclusion that pretty much everyone involved in the discussion about KoS is annoying.
