Took a break ~3months ago, came back today and...
toasted duckie replied to Kushko's topic in General Discussion
Dude I'm just trying to be helpful, don't be a dick <_< -
Why? If someone were to change his username and you meet him again, somewhere in the UI it could say: "It's [name 1], aka [name 2] "
-
Maybe... but then shooting a lot should damage our hearing. If you've ever fired a firearm (especially (assault) rifles or carbines like the Mosin or M4) without any protection you know how quick that would make you suffer from noise-induced hearing losses.

Are you aware that you have to press spacebar to raise melee weapons in order to use them? Been like this for quite some time now. -
Where or how did I ever say such a thing? :emptycan:
-
That stream of your face... exactly what I expected from someone that plays like this. Thanks for confirming what I already assumed.

Best response to Punch On Sight fresh spawns!

chugga chugga choo choo :D Nice troll, deserved as well.. I was waiting for you to kill them, but thinking about it, this was probably better. :beans: -
Nothing mean, pure tactics, many people overlook the importance of closing the doors behind you. It's second nature to me. I close all the doors and I'm convinced it saved me from being spotted multiple times. Why? Because I've found more then 1 player because he/she left the doors open. Think about it, it's like leaving a trail of breadcrumbs..

Thinking out loud here: I like the idea of having some system that has to do with your energy level. Sleeping and having a shelter, protecting you from the environment is one of most important aspects of surviving out there. I'm not sure about how to implement this system... Perhaps you gain energy when you log off (sleeping), but you get an extra buff when you have something like a sleeping bag in your inventory? Perhaps taking naps is possible? Maybe a mini-game while taking a nap, to not get bored? We'll refer to those as dreams :D

Hey, So I got killed in the jail at NEAF yesterday, no problem, that's life in DayZ. But I was in a fight with 2 guys in the jail, 1 downstairs, while I was upstairs. But the 2nd guy was popping in and out of a room which you cannot access... Is this a hacker/glitch abuser, or did desync cause these anomalies? I doubt it is the latter, since I was playing for a while and did not notice any other weird stuff, caused by desync. Also: is this worthy of posing and posted in the right subforum? :)

People who play on experimental to get 'early early access' on new features, and then complain when things don't work :D People who make threads on a forum towards people, being condescending calling others "son" ... :( Sad sack...

Maybe, maybe not. It was in a fairly high-traffic area for bambies... The uncertainty of not knowing whether it was or wasn't found is part of the enjoyment I suppose...

I saw some debating about how the .22 is a laugh. Well, I found one, and I found a full clip for the .22 pistol. So I emptied the clip and chambered one round. Walking in Berenzino I see a guy with a red helmet and an axe killing zombies. There's a dead dude laying next to him and he goes for me, hits me once with his axe and I flee, bleeding heavily. I bandage up and decide to go back and take this guy down. This is what happens next: I see him and another geared player in one of those big metal shacks.I decide to take some pot shots at them, chambering a new .22 pea after each shot. The shots attract zombies, so I have to run out of there. Falling back a bit I see one of those guys take of further North. I do the same, moving parallel on his left. As I creep in I hear a very loud bang. Sounded like a Mosin or SKS. I think it's directed at me and my heart starts pumping :D DayZ is definitely the only game that does that. I see the guy at a house and shoot at him twice. After evading some zombies again all of a sudden I read a cry for help in direct chat: "PLS Don't let me die :'( " it says. I didn't notice it yet, but the guy is laying face down on the floor, unconscious and bleeding out, while a zombie is going for him and me. I tell him that I will take care of the zombie and as long as he doesn't do anything stupid I will patch him up. I also tell him that IF he regains consciousness he has to put his backpack on the floor and his hands up. He wakes up and does exactly this. As I quickly grab his backpack I remind him of the consequences if he pulls out his SKS, while punching the zombie to death, since the .22 doesn't get the job done. I find some handcuffs in his backpack and quickly cuff him, asking about where his friend is. He says he is alone and that he was just helping the other guy out. I feel a bit bad now, but decide to take his weapons and gear. Berenzino is a hot and dodgy place nowadays after all and I just want to GTFO. To give this guy a fighting chance in this fucker up world I do drop the sawed off shotgun from his backpack, along with 15 shells for it and a bunch of opened cans of food. I tell him that he can go walk up to that stuff 10 sec. after I uncuff him, so I can get away relatively safe. I zig zag my way through the city and safely exfiltrate. Now I must say I was tempted to finish him off as he was unconscious and take his stuff, but I decided to go for interaction. I've only had a few interactions before, either with newspawns, where nothing happens, or with (semi) geared players, resulting in my death. But I'm glad I chose the hard way (letting him live). It brings so much more satisfaction on this whole situation. And I realize I have been somewhat lucky: I would not have been surprised if he saw my .22 and just took out his SKS to finish me off. Anyway, I just had to share this, it amazes me how a game can trigger all these feelings for the players. I was actually apologizing to the guy while taking his stuff. I had conflict off happiness (got gear), excitement & achievement (successfully holding him up, and bandaging him up), guilt (for taking his stuff) etc. :D Sorry if this is poorly written, I'm not the greatest story teller and English isn't my native language.

DayZ's progress is confusing me.
toasted duckie replied to green_machine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
:( Lets cwy together :'( I like how you have any clue of what is going on in development by playing this alpha. I like the game, have very little problems and features & performance are noticeably improving imo. -
I once crafted a backpack, put loads of opened cans in them, along with some drinks, bandages and a friendly note :P
-
I think Berenzino indeed is the new Elektro. Probably thanks to spawn point placement. A -lot- of KoS and shooting going on there. Out of my few interactions with players that I've had, most were around the Berenzino area for sure.
-
Be more careful around new spawns, especially if they speak Russian :p Keep your distance, and when you shoot them, for your own sake, aim down that sight! ;) Did enjoy watching the video, at one point I thought: that's sure a lot of bodies starting to pile up there :D
-
Hey guys, found a press vest :D But will this lower the threshold for people to KoS me? Or do you think that KoSers will KoS, and those who don't, don't? I feel kind off a high value target now :P
-
Was it a mistake picking up a press vest?
toasted duckie replied to toasted duckie's topic in New Player Discussion
Was on regular. Anyway, it's already ruined :P I dropped off my SKS and backpack outside of Zelenogorsk, went in the city. Got killed by a guy from some rooftop. I'm sure the next step I took isn't hard to predict... Collected my SKS/backpack, went back into the city, into a house and got the drop on the guy. After climbing onto a nearby rooftop, I see an unarmed guy walk towards the guy I just shot.. I tell him to stop and put his hadns up, but he continues. I warn him not to do anything stupid, but he picks up an M4.. I put him down, no remorse here, he had his chance to live. Anyway I got my stuff and vest back, but the vest is completely ruined. This renders it useless, correct? -
Hi guys, I'm looking for a UK or EU server that warns (with text) when the next restart will be. I know of one that warns like 5 min. before a restart. But that is too short for me, I'd like at least a 15 min warning. Can anyone enlighten me and point me towards such a server (if they even excist) ?

The Sporter is NOT useless
toasted duckie replied to toasted duckie's topic in New Player Discussion
Lets put it this way: If I did not have that .22 I would not have been able to shoot the guy, and get his gear. I felt a little bit like a dick taking his stuff, but it's all about survival, right? Anyway, if I did not have the Sporter I would likely be dead, now that I did have the .22 Sporter, I came out with tons of valuable gear, and more important: I got out of the city alive. Seems pretty useful to me, right? ;) Obviously you are correct if you state that the stopping power of any other rifle in game right now is much higher. -
Be in an advantage position. If they are armed, make them drop the rifle, make them step away, etc. I once gave a guy with a Mosin with no ammo a single mosin round, to at least give him a chance in this fucked up world. But I made him stay put, while I dropped it at a pole high up a hill. I walk back down to him and tell him he can go collect his present (the one mosin round). Being quite a steep hill, he cannot sprint up there. I was vanished before he even got there. There's always a (relatively safe) way, and if the situation shows that there isn't (like a 1 vs 3 situation) dont make contact ;) That's brilliant lol, have some beans.

Wasn't able to loot my own body.
toasted duckie replied to smorisson28's topic in New Player Discussion
So you saying that since you are a 'different' person after respawn, you should be able to loot your body and get geared again, correct? How does this make a new character truly 'new' then? One of the very fundamental aspects of DayZ is that when you make a mistake, you potentially pay for it with your life, which means losing your gear. Being able to loot your own body pushes this very fundamental pillar over in my opinion... Hope it's a feature :D -
Don't mind your English, if it's not your native language.. But the lack of punctuation has no excuse, hard to read like this... Also, who are you referring to with 'idiot'? I hope yourself, because you could see this coming from miles away. You could get the trade done differently, where you'd at least live .. think about it ;)

I like to think that I'm pretty careful. I avoid Elektro and Cherno like there's a plague raging there, partly because of the poor performance/fps in that area, partly because of... well you know ;) I almost solely travel in the woods, avoid roads and make sure I get low in the terrain and not silhouette myself. I check my rear from time to time, and I stop from time to time, when I get a good opportunity (like one of those fallen over trees, maybe a small shed, a barn or something) .. Then I sit there for a while, checking the direction I came from, to see if I'm being followed. I scout out the cities I'm going into for a little bit, and when all seems clear I go in and loot. I do notices, however, that when I'm looting houses etc I strongly lose the focus on seeing if there's any other players. I do close every entrance door of every house I open. This method seems to work quite well, since I rarely run into people.... -ever-... And I only play on high-pop servers (35 - 40 players) Oh and I don't play longer than a couple of hours per session. One reason is boredom/tiredness, but the other is that I think my concentration will plummit after an extended period of time ;)
