Please wait... (while someone puts a machete in your face)
toasted duckie replied to sachad's topic in General Discussion
In such case I'd log into an empty server and GTFO, so I can log in safely in a populated server. And I tend to play on servers that warn in case of upcoming restarts ;) People have more control over their faith then they like to admit. -

Hope you learned your lesson then? ;) I always log out in the woods and I don't think I've ever been killed when logging in in my 270 hours or so of gameplay. -

Written Notes Need a Different Graphic, now more than ever
toasted duckie replied to Bororm's topic in Suggestions
I too wish there was a way to make notes more noticeable. Perhaps pinning them on walls/doors? -
So I'm walking around Svet, with nothing but a baseball bat on my back. I see 2 guys at the police station and a third guy down the street. All heavily armed. I'm walking around, greeting them, asking them what's up.. They don't really respond, except for a "Wait, stop, stand still for a second", whilst their guns are aimed at me. So the intentions of these guys are obvious, right? Bambi-hunting, handcuffing, forcefeeding, leg-breaking, bandit scumbags. I decide to leg it, into a building which has a door open and sure enough I'm being chased by a salvo of SKS fire. I take one hit and I'm bleeding, running up the stairs. Quickly I bandage up, no more bleeding. Then I decide that it's time to reveal the surprise I have for these MFers. I take in my hand a FNX45 and let the magazine feed 7 rounds into my pistol as it is putting each round into the torso of the bandit that chases me in. Did not expect that, did you now? His friends decide that they can take the better off me and chase me. After maybe 30 - 45 min. the last guy of their group comes in, yelling that I should give up and that I'm surrounded. He too drops to the ground and his life ends. One of them had a M16, I hid it. Boy I love bringing a tiny bit of justice in this Zapocalypse world :D Also: The pistols are fucking beasts and should not be underestimated. In close quarters it outguns any other weapon, except for maybe the MP5. http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/589160490677315413/E781C5F6086ADB51F2F1D4675145964BAA4F8164/ This is why you don't chase and shoot at players that -appear- to be unarmed. You come for me, I empty my mag on you. http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/589160490677329281/1EA8EF47B9624684D86947D18293C44F35EAA50C/ And this is why you don't send your friends in after me, trying to avenge your well-deserved death. Just to clarify: The screenshots were taken well after I looted those guys and at different floors of the building that I'm in.

Pistols saved my life, let me explain why. When I enter a town, I often leave most of my gear stashed away in the woods. So I leave my rifle, backpack and other stuff I don't need behind. Only the absolute necessary gear comes with me (ammo, bandages). One might find this odd, but let me tell you the reason why I do this. I try to look unimportant / no threat to others. This is extremely useful in some cases, because: people might not fire at you when they see you, or they DO fire, but you flee into a building. They will think you are unarmed and come rushing in to kill poor mr. bambi. Little does he know that at that time you've already pulled out your FNX and are ready to make it rain lead ;) Happened to me more then once. It's exciting, justified and you get out alive.

There could be a tiiiiiny bit of feedback, but not too much. Perhaps just the body-part that is hurting. "My back is hurting" could mean a 180 degree area from which the shot could have come. I can't imagine someone registering the direction where a shot came from if he got hit. I haven't ever been shot, so I can't help you there, unfortunately :p

If Novo becomes the center of the map, then yes, increase the server population. The map is way too small for more people. Honestly 40 players isn't that bad, I encounter players all the time. Even with only a few people on I still run into people. The tension and core feelings that DayZ brings me would fade away quickly if I encounter players -all the time-

Is this a confirmed feature? Would be nice to see backpacks survive one or two restarts, only to be removed from the world at the 3rd restart or whatever.
-
What do you mean by 'persistent backpacks'?
-
You're not the 'adrenaline' , don't act tough. You're skilless, both in gameplay mechanics and social interactions, nothing else. However, killing you bastards is the greatest feeling there is, so yes, I'm glad you are a part of DayZ.

This is what happens when you hunt the unarmed.

So true, I also notice how often these 'bandits' (wrong terminology for bambi-hunting, KoSing scum) have the worst aim ever. My aim isn't like that of a gaming guru, but this dick got 1 round of his SKS salvo at 10-20 meters on target. -
The real way to play the game, hardcore, with interactions, and with the intention to not kill if you don't have to. Makes the game bring out sooooo much more emotion and tension for the player.

YOU KNOW WHAT MUST BE DONE- DayZ Standalone- Day 8
toasted duckie replied to DepletedCharge's topic in Gallery
Awesome :) Funny, last week in that same church, I left a Blaze, some food/water/supplies, surrounded by notes (to attract whoever found it and made them actually read them) and wished them good luck. Also wrote that there is a box of ammo for the gun just outside of the church, next to the statue :) I always wonder if anyone finds my 'carepackages' ... I started leaving my steam name on them, hoping for a message of whoever found it :D -
Nice, 2 groups in probably the biggest killzone of Chernarus de-escalate and get out alive :) Beans

Hey guys, I think I just went through my most intense DayZ moment yet... decided to share my story and get your views. First of all, allow me to say that I play on HC only since a couple of months and that I am not a KoS-er, I want to go for interactions. If I meet someone who acts hostile I'll try to take him out, but I'm a talk first, shoot second kind of guy... So I spawned back in DayZ, somewhere West of Berezino. I'm heading south/southwest, looking for villages to loot and find some new clothing. Some of my stuff is ruined. I'm pretty well kitted, with a Mosin, LRS, 1911 engraved and a MP5 with 1 mag. As I see a village, I decide to scope it out a bit before moving in. After a few min of observation, sure enough I spot a player running around the edge of the village. He's armed with an SKS and is wearing a gasmask. I remember one of my personal rules, which is don't trust guys with masks. I want to stalk him a bit, but suddenly he has disappeared. A little voice in the back of my mind said I had to move back to higher ground, even a smaller voice tells me he might have a friend who spotted me, which is why he went for cover, but I quickly decide that the odds are to small. As I move back, I'm startled by the brutal sound of 7 or 8 SKS shots, fired in fast repetition and VERY close by. I start hauling ass along the forest line (can't go into the forest as it is too steep uphill). Looking behind me I can make out a figure chasing me, weapon drawn. I'm now actually noticing how my hands start to shake and I'm breathing heavily. There's a smile on my face, because I realize DayZ is the only game that I've played which gets my adrenaline flowing and even though I HATE KoSers, they are the direct cause for this extremely tense feeling I'm having. I manage to make it to Berezino and hide inside a green house at the edge of the city. I decide to stay there for a good 15 min. to scope out the hillside and see if my persuader(s?) is/are following me. After 15 min I decide that the coast is probably clear and I'm making a plan to escape Berezino. I do NOT feel save in the city and want to GTFO. I decide to haul through the city, towards the coast and then head up North into forested area. This is where things went really quickly, as I leave Berezino North (towards Rify) I spot a player coming the opposite way. He hasn't seen me and I duck for cover behind a three. I then spot a second player, wearing a payday mask running along, but much closer to me. I'm a lone wolf and I'm convinced that these guys will kill me when they see me. I don't think I can get away unseen and I aim through my LRS, only to see a third guy, also wearing a payday mask cross the view at mere meters away. I take a shot and hit him. He drops to the floor, but is moving. I switch to my MP5 and put a few bullets in him, he goes unconscious or dead and the second guy ducks and rotates towards me, weapon drawn. I manage to put a couple of 9mm on his contour and he too falls to the floor. I don't know where the first guy is or if there are any more people in the group, but I don't want to find out. I put my MP5 away as I haul ass towards the North/North West. As I'm getting out at least one guy is saying goodbye by putting Mosin fire along my line of travel. I'm shaking and ALL I can think of is that I want to get out ALIVE. I don't care about their gear, I don't care if the guys I shot will live or if they're already dead... I just want to get out. After an intense couple of minutes of running I manage to get to safer grounds. Holy shit, second time the MP5 saved my ass. I'm officially in love with it. Opinions? Does this count as KoS? I was convinced that it was either me or them, I was shot at before, possibly by the same group. 2 (and I THINK all 3) were wearing payday masks, all had weapons drawn. I need a break from the game for a bit... Damn
-
I've thought about it for a bit, and if I could change the title of this thread I would probably change it to "Narrow escape" or "Got some bandits" or whatever to share my story... The more I think about it, the more certain I am that these guys were up to no good and that I had no choice in this situation. Does this mean I'm going to shoot at people who look scary? No, I'll go on my way, or attempt to make contact... The satisfaction of meeting people and both coming out alive, or someone trying to kill me and me getting the better of them adds SO MUCH MORE to the game that shooting at people who are scary looking... Those guys with their payday masks, weapons drawn, strolling the coast... Fuck em, they had it coming, they were bad men.

But is it really? DayZ SA gives people the opportunity to show and manifest the way they play through clothing and gestures. Also: if this "stupid stereotyp bullshitting" exists, wouldn't that imply that people play by it? Meaning people would not wear masks and shoot those that do wear masks? Meaning that the stereotype becomes true by the sole fact that people acknowledge it as a stereotype?

Part of the reason why I only play a couple of hours a week. Bought the early access on release, but just under 200 hours clocked. :D

From what I understand from your post, you want to see a change in the health generation config and/or make food in general more scarce. I agree that it's way, way too easy to get healthy and well-fed, but I think the majority of loot-tables, configurations of regeneration, the overall health-system etc. is not even being looked at yet to get the numbers right. I think it might even be made this easy on purpose, so people stay alive and test the game. I'm not sure if this has ever been officially confirmed though. But I agree that the final product should have a very different system, I think we just have to be patient for a bit. Maybe someone can confirm/disprove this?

Is Controlled Spawn points still in the Road Map, any news?
toasted duckie replied to blazed's topic in General Discussion
You lost my sympathy right there, man... Perhaps you want to rephrase that ;) -
Then I can't explain why Dayz (and arma, arma 2, arma 3, albeit less) run much worse performance wise then those games you mentioned..
-
I don't play with headset, but I do know that there are tons of 'random' sounds. Like the sound of ammo being reshuffled, a fence, zombies etc... The zombies & ammo sounds are a bug, the fence sound is rudimentary from Arma era I believe. I hope they remove it. Same goes for twigs snapping.. The only ambient sound I can stand are the birds in the forest. Never heard anything you described, though. But since you say it's very faint it might be because I'm not using a headset. And honestly there's so much background noise in this game at the moment, I've learned to ignore it usually.

Hey guys, I'm desperately looking for a HC server which gives warnings about the next restart. Ideally a 1,2,3,5,10,15,20,30,45,60 minute warning or something like that. I just don't like being in a sketchy place when a sudden restart takes place :( Anyone knows such a server? Much appreciated :)

Don't underestimate the lethality of the pistols.
