I think you're getting things confused ... Sure a bunch of people are trying to argue realism into those debates , but for those of us who have been in these arguments extensively , we've all decided that food and ammo should be scarce, not for realism purposes but for gameplay purposes ... If you can find a hundred bullets in one area along with ten cans of food will there be any incentive to do anything else but sit there and wait for a kill? So overall, I think you have the right idea that bullets and food wouldn't just disappear, but ultimately you missed the whole revolution of gameplay VS realism debate that basically puts the whole realism factor to the back shelf in regard to ammo and food , placing more importance on gameplay factors rather than realism arguments (which still reign King In many other dayz arguements though !).

Zombies in 0.59 (Experimental)

In Zelenogorsk last night (at the military section at the end) we capped at least 30 , and I'm pretty sure they trspawn depending on guns fired , people in the area etc etc ... Me and two others were posted up in the jail cell building shooting zombies endlessly running towards the place (in waves of 3 - 4 it seemed) the bodies disappeared quick but I swear we must have wasted 30 of them, and they were still willing to respawn, but unfortunately we were running low on ammo and had to log for the night . They only respawn like this in big cities , I don't think they soawn at all anywhere else (small towns) . I want to see them everywhere and in this number (and roaming hordes). Dayz is getting better patch by patch , can't wait to get dat waking dead feeling with hordes :) ! -
I've only seen one of the new cars :( and I haven't seen people driving around, only hear a few engines here and there ... I hope to see some more vehicles per map , I really wanna get my hands on one (and if it glitches out like I've heard they do I'll be able to find another relatively soon). Can't wait for helicopters (maybe boats too? ).

Lots of people (like stinkenheim mentioned) don't realize tht this means only the public servers hosted by the hosters themselves (so all the people that buy public servers will have the option for 3PP , just like the private server people). This IS a non-issue when you comprehend it correctly ! -

I really can't wait for this gun , it's been on my list for ages , ever since the mod (never did find one in the mod) .. I always looked for it In that trash game WarZ (honestly the only good thing in that game , collecting rare weapons and trading them). I know dayz devs will make it rare , probably as rare as SVD or vss to a person who hardly loots heli crashes like me . I love light machine guns , simply for their chaotic nature , I can't wait to see this thing in action when someone takes it to the streets of elektro and just unloads on the undead (or banditos), it will be a spectacle to see and hear , let alone do ! -
Probably when they realized ten years is a ridiculous amount of time to work on one game lol.... They could easily stop after 5 years (after 1.0 release) as long as a sequel was in the works ... I can't wait to see how it turns out , we all know this is gonna be a hit considering the amount of people that are so passionate about the game coming through the forums alone (positive or negative) .. Just imagine this game still being worked on ten years after release ; the most in-depth , ridiculously detailed, freest open world zombie game ever (most likely with virtual reality support at this point ). I'm gonna go ahead and say five extra years is plenty .

Does this mean we will never be able to keep loose objects (not related to base building) on the ground , say in our barricaded houses ? I always imagined stashing my guns up agaisnt a wall and all over the floor to look badass , or arranging things in a tent to make it look real :)! Second Question , will we see barricading make an appearance any time soon ? We now see static objects moving thanks to the last sneak preview on the dev tracker of the car hitting static objects and them moving , so I wonder if that same mechanic would allow us soon, to take some wood we see in the world , and use our hammer and nails we already have to board up windows ! Thanks for taking the time to answer any of these questions and for alreadh getting to a bunch of interesting ones :) !

That's excellent , it really makes me feel more like this is a Horror game and not a bright and sunny shoot em up. The only thing I would like to see is the world around you continuing when you go to options (in video the cloud and game freezes it seems when he brings up pause menu). Otberwise great work . -
I would like to see chain mail and plate armor. We already have the great helm (a typical plate armor helmet , one of the most defensive of its time against slashing and piercing) so why not make the whole outfit with the sword ? I think its already coming anyways , first it was the great sword now the great helm , I'm thinking breast plate is next :) ! Please developers and community , add plate armor and maille for role playing and bad assedry !! Edit : you would never use chain link fence to make chain mail suits lol , it's special rings that are incredibly small holes , smaller than an arrow tip and mostly woven over eachother (not like you see in movies where you can see through one hole all the way to the flesh) . So IMO we SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CRAFT THESE ITEMS , but they would be amazing to find in a museum or castle turned museum (take black Castle and turn it into a tourist attraction , featuring a loot spawn with recreated armor , which isn't replica armor BTW, this soawn would be rare much like the great sword and the protection agaisnt bullets would be less than that of a plate carrier vest (depending on bullet caliber) but would mostly be for role playing and choice of clothing .)!

Technically we could have saved 26 cents if we were to wait because we DID buy the game for $30 not $29.74 as listed now in this price, but the joy ive gotten by purchasing the game a year and a half ago is far better than a silver quarters discount ...

Lol, rocket himself stated a long time ago that they wanted to have car crashes damage players inside .. When this game is fully complete it will be amazing and have every suggestion anyone's suggested (worth having !) . This game stretches our patience but it's well worth it , we just have to keep implementing these good ideas and remind the devs that these things will make this game different from all the rest ...

"Nail Bats" and other (realistically) crappy weapons

Yea whoever said a club isn't more badass and threatening than a regular club .... Oh wait , everyone who's ever lived in the dark ages ! : http://medieval.stormthecastle.com/armorypages/club.htm Although a nailed baseball bats more impractical than what I just linked , it would still hurt , and the nails would not bend when they puncture the foremost of your skin , and when someone drives nails into a bat where do you think they will hit you with it ? The back , the leg , the chest? Most likely the face , so You can suffer mild head trauma and a couple of gashes to the face , not to mention the nails don't make it nearly top heavy enough to imbalance it so as long as you don't have to pull it out of the opponents face the first strike , you can come with a backhand strike making up for its reduced blunt trauma (it would have to be driven Into his skull for an average man to struggle with the pull it out, and in regards to adrenaline : Im pretty sure the attacker would have much more of it ) . But if I were to make the choice I would pick up a baseball bat and save my nails , a nailed bat hurts in many ways that a regular bat cannot (fear reducing the defenders adrenaline to fight back after being hit , bleeding and blunt trauma damage + pure shock value) but a regular bat is going to have a better chance to guarantee a knockout than a nailed bat would, and that's precious to someone in the apocalypse not trying to rack up a body count . So I have to disagree with the dismissal of how deadly it still is but I do agree the regular bat is more practical in terms of carrying and knock outs ! -
Exactly , and that's what OP and many others don't understand ... This isn't some Aaa title , so let's not pretend that it needs 50 k people playing every day to keep it afloat . This game will be dead when it has only 500 people playing at peak hours like Friday nights , sure there's a decline , but are you really gonna cry wolf everytime the population goes down for some new video game or because content is slow ? You guys realize that many people buy the game with intent to get it cheaper and then finally play it when it's released right ? Fact of the matter is this is a thread worried about the decline so much that they think it will stop the game dead , that doesnt happen because a couple of Whiney twitch players decided to rage quit, games die knly when the developers and community let it die , and neither will let that happen , at least for some years to come. So to close it all out , I think everyone worried is grabbing at straws for nothing , steam charts only show those that are currently playing and seeing as .58 stable is one of the worst stable branches it's no wonder that the decline happened alongside fallout coming out , but the word decline doesn't mean it's failing , and certainly doesn't implicate that the decline is steep. Only temporary , nothing else !

This game is popping right now . Why don't you guys go ahead and check some other games steam charts i play and report back to me if standalones numbers are low: Mortal online : http://steamcharts.com/app/287920 Nosgoth: http://steamcharts.com/app/200110 The second game has only been around for about a year and a half so that can't attest to how long low population games can survive for but the first one is the real gem , Mortal Online came out in 2009 with an alpha version , it is now SIX years into its life , on the same buggy old engine with relatively the same small amount of players . Yeah dayz is doing fine lol , and to see so many people swearing it will die soon is so funny to me , you guys really have no sense of the future or an intuitive sense of potential , because this game is the only alpha game I've ever know to keep people playing for thousands of hours IN AN ALPHA DEVELOPMENT !! That's an achievement , now how do you think it will be when 1.0 comes out? We've had the chance to mold dayz because of this early access , and the game came to us much quicker because of that (on top of that we the community can crush more bugs before 1.0 release than the devs alone). Overall I know it must be super duper hard to play an awesome video game and have to wait for it to get better , but bare with us here , if you already have more than 500 hours then you already play this game more than the average AAA title that costs you $60 , And there's more to come and all you have to do is report bugs and wait , so yA let population decline when new games come out and stable patches are stale , but we all know damn well as soon as .59 hits stable , all those that are so incredibly disappointed , will be playing again non-stop. Almost 4k players on during a Friday morning , yea this game is soooo dead XD !

A little question .. why MP5 and UMP and not Bizon SMG ?

I believe the bizon was on one of the long forgotten "dev approved weapons" list... I sincerely believe we will see it before release at the rate of speed they have at adding firearms lately! Bizon is one of my favorite SMGs =)! -
That list is actually 80% operator error , and just simply stating those crashes for fact (as you can see in the descriptions ). I'm not gonna say every helicopter will come out fine after being shot at , but I just want everyone to realize 9/10 times you will not be accurate enough to shoot a moving helicopters sensitive parts with an m240 , considering spread , how far away helicopters fly from the ground on average , and I'm sure aiming an m240 into the sky causes some serious recoil . All in all I think they are going to be seriously different from dayz mod helicopters , I mean why would they replicate that cheap feeling again of shooting down a freaking attack helicopter with a machine gun / sniper rifle ? sure you could shoot the driver but were talking about helicopter body hits destroying it, unless hovering you're going to have a very hard time .. but hey real is real so im not going to deny a bullet can't hurt a rotor , but we have to realize this shouldn't be happening all the time or be easy for that matter . I hated the dynamics of shooting down helicopters in the mod , I've taken down helicopters in the dayz mod with simple assault rifles , DMR sniper, grasshopper grenade launcher, and even shooting a guy through attack chopper windshield with a magnum XD .. It was silly to say the least . I want a more realistic experience for this game .

M240s and grenade launchers arent meant to shoot down helicopters , that's just Hollywood fantasy . Do you know how fast helicopters fly ? And how heavily armored their vital parts are ? Maybe at very close range with a lot of ammo an m240 could bust up pieces of a chopper but you're never going to be able to aim into tbe sky and shoot it down like a bird XD! The way helis will be destroyed is waiting for its owners to land it and then placing c4 on it or throw grenades into it , or shoot it while its sitting in place with an RPG (again , RPGS are NOT meant to hit aerial vehicles , that's call of duty nonsense right there). Helicopters will be harder to shoot down then you are assuming.

Because that's tbe point, it's supposed to be hard to keep because it's a freakjng helicopter . If you dull down the challenge of getting a helicopter running you make every nerd flock to these things and then it's just helicopter hunter 2015 . To make people appreciate these things and make it so they don't go on killing sprees the moment they find these , they have to make it incredibly hard to Get it running , and I'm in complete agreeance with that. On the note of the new renderer : it looks just freaking amazing I can't believe were finally able to look at it =P . But this long wait should be worth it I mean the down pours just look so realistic coupled with the fog !

Having trouble Using control pad in .59

This happens from time to time , sometimes my Xbox controller wouldn't work ... But generally try and use an Xbox or PS3 controller , they seem to have the least compatibility issues with experimental patches !Edit: having Xpadder alwAys helps it configure and recognize your controller as it pretends it's a keynoard and mouse (you just have to set up Xpadder which is simple). -
Meh. Stop being so damn nostalgic for the dayz mod ... It's dead and gone and will remain dead , stop looking in the past and know when beta hits all these crappy zombie issues will go away .

I just think you're overlooking any useful situation to suit a frustration of already slow development, but these soft skills have been planned since day 1 by dean himself. Think about this, you find a broken helicopter and noone in your group knows how to fix it, except for you. Meanwhile , a group of bloodthirsty bandits holds your entire crew up and kills all those that dont have the skills to help them , they leave you and a medic alive while they still need you because you are useful...You then have enough time before they kill you (if they are going to) to get your friends to avenge themselves , or at the very least you've already had more fun then "You are dead" all across the board..Or how about this, you cant fly helicopters well enough right away to fly long disticance or take off quickly without crashing, and have to practice flying frequently to better piloting skills under stress, the pilot in the group could save everyone if you needed to get outta dodge on the fly and not crash B/c of a quick takeoff... It may not be easy for many to see the devs undertaking such large and interesting tasks such as these when they are already behind schedule but like i said before it was planned from day one and IMO its a great way to see more realistic interaction between players (especially with groups Vs lonewolves, if a lonewolf has a skill you need its better you use him rather than kill him). Just my 2 cents and i cant wait for soft skills and all the other features planned!

You're definitely right on this one : but it's ok because those that are still KOSing after these changes will be the ones who will always be those adrenaline junky KOS bandits . So the KOS crowd will be rooted out to those that would truly choose this lifestyle over all others . So you're right , it won't really cut down on the TRUE bandits just because they don't wanna lose some soft skills , but that combined with scarcity of ammo like you said , will surely make game changing differences that will be great for all playstyles : we still get bandits but we get more sensible people who like to preserve their soft skills ! Honestly though I've thought the level of KOS was just right in the past six months of dayz , but then again my motto is "talk first and most likely die but have a better time than those who KOS", I'm considered a "hero" playstyle so im too positively biased , but like everyone agrees , anything that might take down the KOS populace is a good decision for dayz . Can't wait for .59 experimental patch , it Will finally make dayz become the game we've wanted it to become since day one of standalone !
