I'm not one to get nostalgic for the fuck of it, but i also agree with you. Origins, aftermath (before Aftermath 0.9.0.7 patch) and vanilla mod had some great survival aspects blended quite well with pvp aspects, which is why its easy to get nostalgic for these mods... But i see dayz SA slowly becoming better than what these games were and i cant wait to see how it all turns out but in the meantime i want to catch up with origins because it looks like they are still on the right track and not conforming to the "pvp is everything " mindset most mod devs have like epoch, overwatch, and others.

Well thanks for reminding me mate , besides dayz aftermath, dayz origins was the only Mod to give me that survival feeling that standalone brings to me .

I'm pretty sure origins has been dead for over 6 months now hasn't it ? I tried playin about 6 months ago (and again about 4 months ago) but there were no servers on dayz commander , I couldn't find any in the server browser for arma 2 either .... Origins was by far my second favorite mod (my first was dayz aftermath) , origins shad it all : less vehicles (they were harder to obtain and didn't feel like all those joke mods with 1,00,000 vehicle high loot server crap), new good lookin map, creepy looking zombies with chopped off arms and axes in their heads , base building (even though it was one of the most unintuitive base building systems , very clunky and not free based at all) still had aerial vehicles but they were a huge reward to get into the sky, there was also a gigantic fortress that actually could fly , it took many many hours to get it to work and find all the parts but it was amazing , Flying with your clan in a huge spaceship was so awesome ... Also there were vehicles that you could "make" so to speak , the frames of certain customized vehicles were all around, so you just needed to collect certain parts to make it work, there was this one called the Zilla or Goliath or something that was a gigantic boat with wheels on it so you traverse sea and land . In nostalgia of the pvp and helicopters of this game , I remember playing with my cousin , we had just PVPed some stupid fools who tried to run up on our grocery store (that was OUR grocery store) so I promptly filled them with a heaping helping of makarov bullets ... After killing them we heard a helicopter land near our grocery store of base operations , so we run outside wait for the bloke to jump out his heli in search of food , the guy was so excited he forgot to take his engine out (only takes a second and lone wolves usually did this to prevent theft) .. So naturally me and my cousin were good people and helped him out , my cousin distracted him while I robbed his engine ... He tried getting it back but all in all daddy didn't really know how to fly all that well back then so in reattach the engine while the guy chases my cuz , after my cousin hops in the side we fly gloriously into the grocery store that was once our salvation . the guy who's helicopter it was we stole , was disappointedly watching us fatefully careen his beloved chopper he had worked so hard at obtaining , Into the brick and cement walls of OUR store , the only grocery store that ever mattered ... Hey if any of you guys find an origins server let me know , id play on it all day when I'm not playing standalone ! I talk a lot of crap about how shitty all the mods were but this one (along with dayz aftermath) was probably the only good dayz mod out there simply because they made it more about survival and less about Pvp . Edit : for anyone wondering , origins isn't dead but it is apparently in a rough spot , not many people play it anymore because something happened with the developers and their licenses or something ... Long story short you can't find any of their "official" lfs servers through dayz commander anymore they have their own launcher and server browser now ! Download it through their Facebook (easy google find so I won't link it) . For those of you that played dayz origins, give this a try while we wait for .56 experimental ! I'm reinstalling arma 2 and it feels .... Weird , lol .

Although my vote for PC would be dayz, I think one of the greatest games for xbox had to be halo 2 multiplayer , online was just too much fun especialy big team battles .... I think for playstation the greatest would be the resident evil series , as I played the shit out of all those games lol ..

I simply can't play .55 anymore I need experimental , I think I'm just gonna stop following the devs twitters and wait for that patch to download cuz I hate the words soon and soonish lol ...

I wish the devs would troll us more ... Maybe have some mines set around the world already activated in random spots like a dynamic event such as the heli crashes , only these ones piss you off instead of make you happy lol ...

Players leave "in droves" after many different patches , not just this one.. besides that they will return because all of their reasons for leaving are bugs being addressed , it will only take a matter of time . But have fun with buying air drops and purchasing tickets to sit in a queue for a deathmatch game when you've already paid for a survival game . Lulz, oh you , I wish h1z1 was made by a respectful company because it's literally an abomination and a disgrace to the PC game world , and it's smoke and mirrors ploy of being an open world zombie survival game is just a gimmick , yes it's open world with zombies but as for survival everything is half assed and made to make you crave buying more content with real money andthe only reason I see people interested in it is to have quick action deathmatch fun with base building (aka ugly fucking shacks everywhere ) ... But not everyone has high standards for survival games, it's just that most of us here do as we have seen the high level of detail , realism , and immersion from what SA offers that we don't want to go back to that genre of gimmicky , arcadey, pay to win themes that games like H1Z1 offer , but to each his own . Oh and fuck you h1z1 , you're the only game that I have ever seen make it impossible to play from a friends shared library lol... I played the game through my cousins shared library as he owned it , but after a few weeks they (SOE I'm guessing) disabled the feature , probably to get more people to buy into the mostrosity ! Edit : sorry to go off topic a bit , but dayz is still great IMO so I think this is still relevant lol :) .

Well I just started a new life waiting for .56 experimental , I've decided I can't wait any longer lol ... I jump into UK alliance first person server 15/40 people on , I spawn in NOvo for the first time in months , so naturally I was ready to check if the tower had lootsplosion ... Never got to the tower lol , first I found some food and Water , then decided to check the police station ... As I approach the second door on the second floor , I hear a creak , but to my dismay my reflexes are a second late as I continue to walk into the door frame , I see a man weilding a longhorn (presumably empty as he didn't fire on me) I quickly stated I was friendly and not looking for trouble ( my new favorite phrase) and he's startled as well , as he replies in a shaky voice: " it's ok man you're good" So I wish him luck and run away like a pesky rabbit , completely forgetting to tell him the number of mines I layed about Novo just for the Lulz , please nice friendy British man , don't go near any orange brick buildings !!

Lol don't expect everyone to agree with you on that one bud , just the graphics alone of those games irks most people ... Dayz is on top for a reason ; great graphics, huge attention to detail , more content coming than any other "survival" game out there, it's got more potential and all the other "zombie survival games" won't compare because while they took the easy way out and tried to throw in some simple mechanics like base building and such, dayz took the better and harder route and decided to make a massive game with tons of detail and content .. Can you make leather outfits out of animal hide in 7 days to die , or project zomboid ? Is there any temperature features, Can you even hunt in those games ? Is there any sense of exciting pvp , or can you restrain people (so as to avoid KOS) , or can you Even talk to people you see over proximity chat ? No , you can't , and i could go on and on and on about how many survival aspects those games are missing .. I also find 7 days to die to be extremely easy (even on hardest difficulty with zombies running at all times), missing end game content , and completely devoid of anything that seems to be connected with survival except for having to eat and drink and barricade houses (in an ugly arcade block like fashion mind you ). Trust me when dayz has polished it's edges many people will stop playing those wannabe survivor games and realize that dayz is offering so much more , just with a wait that maybe some people can't handle (which is strange because I remember waiting for halo 2 for 3 years and that was a AAA title that wasnt even an open alpha ).

Well to start , I have to say I don't own a laptop but I've been looking Into getting one ... Specifically the origin EON 15-X ($2,599), but as I am not an avid laptop fan I don't really keep up with which mobile processor/gfx cards are just gimmicks and which are the real deal ... If I could I would get a much cheaper laptop but I am afraid that it won't be powerful enough for dayz , as my cousin has bought 2 laptops now , both not powerful enough to run any MMO type games on high let alone dayz .. So my question to you, the community, is this : do you have a laptop that you are proud of in terms of dayz ? If yes , what would you say makes your laptop beastly at dayz ? And do you have any negatives about certain processors or GFX cards commonly used for mid - high end laptops ?

So after hearing how some of your rigs have held up , I'll definitely try and go for a bit cheaper rig ( as I don't have "mad bills" lol) I'm definitely looking at I7 but I don't want a "gimmick" processor so to speak (my I5 performs smoother Than my cousins I7 strangley enough) , so I think I'll bounce off of all of your suggestions and research for a good I7 off of new egg (maybe my friend will build it all for me so I can just order parts hehe), as I am just looking for something to buy that can run dayz on high that doesn't rape my wallet lol. And no I don't work at a desk , I pretty much clean an amusent park at night so Noones gonna be there to tell me not to play dayz :) my job is too OP for dayz lol .

Well thanks for the input you two , I do have a beastly desktop already (digitial storm , a great company from California that makes good builds for relatively cheap ).. I've literally just been telling myself : " how freaking cool would it be to be able to play dayz at work " lol and that's where I'm at now and it's dead here ... So I could use a laptop in the future for being extra lazy and not caring about my job ;) .. But I'll ask to keep this thread open as I would love to hear some more peoples spec's for their laptops , maybe I'll even find another laptop that's cheaper and still powerful through community brainstorming :) .

I'm so ready for .56... i can hardly play .55 because im addicted to killing vampires ATM (nosgoth) but i'm itching to return , please devs , release dat .56 EXP this week (preferably sooner rather than later =) ).

It's got my vote for best PC game ever... But my vision of a great zombie game has always been exactly what dayz is , and when I first saw dayz mod I was ecstatic to see the Open world zombie theme coming to life , but was disappointed with all the shortcomings of the supposed "survival game" , so you could imagine how ecstatic I was when dayz sa debuted .... It really has tied up mostly all of the loose ends from the mod and immersified itself X100 . I love the detail put into every nook and cranny of this game , and furthermore like someone else said , almost every one of my suggestions have been acknowledged by the devs as a WIP or planned for the future. Excellent .

Real men are clean shaven . Wow I'm going to get some heat for that lol .. But I really like the fitness mechanic , as bruce lee said (paraphrasing) food is our bodies fuel and if we put in we bad we feel bad , this mechanic would deter us from eating canned goods all the time (so basically people who get lucky finding all canned goods would have to wonder if they would still want to go catch some meat or harvest fresh vegetables , instead of eating possibly stale preservative filled food). Body weight I said yes to but I really mean a proper inventory weight (like maximum weight capacity and item weights affecting characters). Aging would be awesome but I honestly wouldn't care if this didn't make it into the game if it affected the games performance fps wise .
