Depends on where you tend to loot. If you never hit military buildings, stick with the mosin. You'll find 7.62's semi-reliably. If you do loot military its personal preference.

SKS prone to jamming? Maybe a cheap Vietnamese knock off, but any decent copy should run like a champ, even with shit ammo. And as for choosing one over an M4, 7.62x39 hits harder than a 5.56mm.

The SVT-40 would be a poor stopgap gun. It is a large battle rifle, and would function similarly to a mosin. The SKS is a smallish carbine and fires an intermediate round, a perfect stopgap gun.

A decent AK-47 will print a 4-5 inch group at 100 yards. Not exactly what I'd call accurate, but it'll do the job in most cases.

I can attest to this. My local range was recently fucked over because some guy decided to sneak in some M855 ammo, which promptly blew through the backstop (indoor range), which I believe is 1.5 inches of steel. So, yeah, M855's are nasty shit.

Simple math. The speed of sound at sea level is approx. 340 m/s, while most modern rifle calibers (7.62x51, 7.62x54R, etc) travel between 8-900 m/s. 800 > 340, so the bullet will strike and kill you well before you here the sound.

I've found several of the double barrel shotguns in both TEC buildings and piano houses.

The sks is chambered for 7.62x39mm, same as the AK-47. So, not quite as deadly as the mosin.
