Why is everyone I meet an ***hole?
vanilladragon replied to Deacoon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
why do you assume it wouldnt be? I wouldnt like to meet the people who think human beings would devolve into mindless killbots if the zombie apocalypse ever occurred. you strike me as a potential psychopath just itching for a release. human beings are so powerful because we co-operate under stressful situations. this is not an opinion' date=' its an observed fact. just open a history book. i have no doubt that some people would kill another if it meant their survival, but no where near the levels which are happening in the game right now. its a blood bath. do you honestly believe a true to life zomapoc would be like this? everyone shooting everyone on sight? or are we only using the realism argument when it suits us? [/quote'] Contrary to my previous post to you, I now completely disagree! Oh the irony. Have you ever read The Road by Cormac McCarthy? Given your rather peachy view of humanity I suggest you do. Without spoiling too much, it depicts an apocalyptic world (zed-less, but still). And the acts of atrocity that some of the humans commit are absolutely mind blowing, and I don't see them being too far fetched either. People keep making this argument that humans work well as a team and that humans perform well together under stressful situations. I feel thats a totally altruistic approach, a philosophical ideology I do not subscribe to. I think humans are intrinsically egoistic, both from personal experience, but also from reading so much Hobbes. You can say that we co-operate under stressful situations, well there's a good reason for it. Co-operation breeds strength in numbers, and therefore protection. Human beings are willing to sacrifice a small amount of freedom to do whatever they want in order for protection. Just look at society. We submit to rules and regulations in order to receive protection from the government. Look back a thousand years to cavemen, and you had tribes. When there was no incentive to work together, no dangerous circumstance that had arisen, they fought each other for land, resources, meat and women basically. We're animals. We coalesce into a society because its in our own best interests to do so. EDIT: Can't remember who said it, but whoever it was said that we are simply bound by mutual benefit. It just so happens that being in a society not only benefits ourselves, but others as well, so its in both our best interests to do so. When there is no mutual benefit, well then. Look at Day Z. i dont think that believing every single person would not turn into a stone cold murderer in an apocalypse is considered 'peachy'. and citing work of fiction isnt evidence for human behaviour. human beings that work together survive longer than those who murder every single person they see. which is irrelevant anyway, since this is a video game. if you believe an overwhelming percentage of people would shoot other survivors on sight then you must be hanging out with psychopaths. people act this way due to the poor mechanics in the game, not because they are striving for realism. people only use the realism argument when it suits them. -

its hard to stop banditry when every single mechanic in the game favours banditry over surviving. -

i think different areas should have chat channels. like different zones in wow. -
you will stop trusting people eventually. it will just take a few backstabs. then the circle of violence continues.

people should play how they want, its a sandbox. the problem is its impossible to play as a survivor. you take on all the risks and none of the rewards that bandits get. coupled with the fact there is zero 'end game' content wide spread player killing becomes inevitable. also the realism argument is beyond fucking stupid. we're playing a video game, stop trying to use realism as an excuse to continually gimp those who want to play as survivors. someone claimed using global chat was akin to using telepathy and thus should be removed? you need your fucking head checked mate. this is by far the stupidest thing i have read on this forum, which is quite an achievement given how stupid this community is generally. ignoring how unrealistic a zombie apocalypse is in the first place... is guns and ammo randomly spawning realistic? should you have to watch your character sleep for 6 hours or succumb to exhaustion? should you carry a car motor in your back pack? i hardly ever generalise but i will right now: anyone who uses the realism argument is stone cold retard, unless you advocate watching your character sleep for 6 hours to avoid exhaustion. this game as it is now pigeon-holes you into the bandit role, i think that will change as more content is developed. at least i pray it does -

never trust people already grouped. its been said a few times in this thread but i want to repeat it so people who are new to the game absorb it. if you see two or more people together HIDE or KILL or respawn... the choice is yours. lone survivors are about 70% chance of killing you on sight in my experience. groups of survivors wil kill you 99% of the time. it really is not worth the risk. -
Infected Detection behavior is not as intended

when you see a person on their own its 50/50 whether or not they will shoot on sight. but if you see two or more people together; run. in my experience its the groups of people who kill on sight. i dont think most bandits kill for beans, they do it for fun. i think those guys were going to kill you from the start. they just wanted to have you in skype to increase the sexual thrill they get -when- they backstab you.

Would those making posts to complain about Rocket kindly fuck off?

exactly' date=' there is zero end game content, you cant blame children for getting bored and playing a death match. [hr'] worst i have ever seen. you cannot even discuss ideas without getting showered in hateful 'carebear' comments from people who are content to just play a ffa deathmatch with zombies. very sad state -
v1.7.1 has honestly ruined it.

in its current form i dont want it to be more popular. i certainly would not recommend it to someone i didnt want to punish with a shitty game experience and an even worse community. -

Our backpacks could be the real problem?
vanilladragon replied to athrins's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
you would rather be pigeon holed into playing as a bandit? you cant play as a survivor, its a death sentence. the problem is that everyone is playing as a bandit because there is no choice. a; because there is nothing to do in the game, and b; playing as a survivor is IMPOSSIBLE. a survivor assumes all the risks and none of the rewards. why even bother trying? no one does, which is why we're playing a deathmatch with a few zombies around. -

not having a starting gun is great, just completely clear out all tents/vehicles so every one starts on an even playing field. -
As a new player, This mod is so difficult its un-playable.
vanilladragon replied to HamHamm's topic in New Player Discussion
how is removing starting guns going to cut down on spawn killing? i am not seeing the connection. i have never been killed by another new survivor on the coast, its always people who have geared up and are just killing for giggles. how is removing any defence from griefers going to stop griefing? -

i dont understand the reasons for the change. was it simply to make the game harder for people just starting? is that the only reasoning behind the decision?
