    First ever KoS...

Yup, don't trust anyone with scary mask. Just watch the original wicker man film to see what happens to people who trust strangers with scary masks... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FdV-O8o7ok

    Is there any nice people

That's the beauty of dayz though, that time when you meet someone and they DONT try and kill you, its an almost spiritual experience standing there talking to a complete stranger who plays nice! The buzz I get from that means I can never KOS. I don't remember the countless guys who killed me, but I always remember they guys who didnt! Keep the faith my friend, and don't go to the dark side of dayz. Killing players is such an empty experience, except in self defence of course.

    how to play dayz mod

Depends what gaming experience you are looking for brother. If you want survival and not being KOS, original(vanilla) dayz is your best bet. if PVP is your thing, overwatch or Epoch. I tried Panthera, and was KOS every time I played, so gave it up pretty quickly. Frankieonpc makes Epoch look like the place to be, but that's cos hes a beast of a player. Its a different story for us mere mortals, but if you fancy your chances, give it a go!

    Arma II: Dayz mod error

Try this. Close Steam, right click on the steam shortcut -> Run as Administrator then start up arma 2 then startup operation arrowhead, you dont need to play them, just start them up. Then try Dayz. Hope this helps. If that no worky, give this a try, go to steam->library-> arma 2/properties-> local files-> verify do that for operation arrowhead too, then start up arma 2 then startup operation arrowhead, you dont need to play them, just start them up. Then try Dayz. Hope this helps.

    Arma II: Dayz mod error

Im no PC genius, but I will try to help anyway. Firstly, is that a laptop you are playing on? if so you will need to have a powerful one, this game wont run on an old laptop. secondly, have you purchased Arma 2 combined operations? Cos you cant run dayz mod without it.

Impression of Standalone (from a DayZ Mod Veteran)

A very heartfelt first post there, and I read it right through. I hear you on some things like its crap at the moment compared to the mod, cos I have went back to the mod, and wont play SA probably for at least another 6 months. However, I cant agree that SA is a con job, look at all the buildings you can enter. Imagine how great the mod would be with all those open buildings to explore. No sidechat on SA? Music to my ears and eyes. Makes immersion much better. Don't need to read or hear people talking absolute shit all the time. Gearing up is amazing too. Choices of outfits and stuff, I love being able dress my guy the way I would. Once again, better immersion. Its strange defending a game Im not going to go back to for 6 months, but I see the progress, and its all good. Patience is the key my good man, what Rocket is trying to create has never been done in a game before, we are in uncharted territory so give him time, thats what I preach!

"the run" ((what would you have done?))

I can just imagine your newly found friends faces as they charged into battle, confident their geared up hard as nails new pal was going to swing the odds in their favour, only to see you running in the opposite direction :o & then you on here pondering what horrible things happened to them that fateful day because of your cowardice... Beans for cheering me up and giving me a good laugh

Is the DayZ Mod better than Standalone?

For me, the mod is more fun to play. The game is nothing without cars and helis, I play as a lone wolf and NOTHING beats the feeling of dread when a car approaches, or a heli flies over your head. Those moments are priceless if you enjoy the aspect of playing to survive, instead of playing to KOS.

Beanz, for the Scottish dark sense of humour :)
  16. My bad, I meant NW airfield. Hope you can forgive 'ole jock.
  17. You make the mistake of calling Frankie a person. To his fans, hes a gaming god... a virtual film star. and when Frankie tells them that Dayz standalone is pretty much dead in the water and Dayz RP(which I think is worse than standalone) is where its at, you can be sure that many many people are going to give up standalone and head back to the mod, in their quest to meet Frankie, the poster boy of Dayz.
  18. Surviving in standalone is easy though. Head up north and that's it. Guns, grub water wells aplenty and helmets. I remember playing on a packed server, headed to NW airfield. Heart pounding, expecting to be dropped. Ended up feeling like I was in a holiday home, if there was an option to hop on a bunk and have a kip I would have taken it as I lazily looted. Try that on the mod, and see how long you SURVIVE.
  19. Listen, I HATE the standalone, it looks lovely but plays terribly and clown masks??? Deary me. I bought it in late December, quickly thought this is a piece of shit, and went back to the mod. I notice that the poster boy of dayz Frankie is even trying to let Dayz standalone fans down gently by gradually bringing the mod back, whilst trying in the nicest way to show in his vids what a mess standalone is. & lets face it folks, love him or loathe him Frankie has the power to make or break standalone. The laddie made his name from dayz mod, so when hes bitching about standalone? You know something is seriously wrong. HOWEVER. I understand standalone is in alpha, and being an older gamer I have more patience than the young guns. We were all given fair warning that Standalone was a work in progress, but going too heavy on the realism aspect is hurting the standalone terribly IMO. there is a fine balance, and where the mod was great but not quite real enough, standalone is a bit TOO real. Playing mod and standalone is like going from one extreme to another! Mod too much fun and skimping on survival, Standalone too much survival and forgetting about the fun. Standalone needs time, but I fear the rocket man in his quest to make the perfect zombie survival game is trying to make it 'too' perfect and that's why its struggling.

Anyone still looking to play vanilla DayZ?

Bring it on brother, BRING IT ON!
  21. Not at all, I gave up on SA cos its so boring in comparison to the mod, but the other day I was playing the Mod, collecting supplies in Kamenka thinking I was out of sight, out of mind. More the fool me, as a bandit attacked me out of nowhere. We traded shots, he got the better of me in a pistol firefight & I congratulated him for getting the better of me before he finished me off with a bullet to the head with zero remorse. not once did he even try to talk to me, but I respected him for being a cold blooded killer, cos players like him just make the reward of being a good guy player all the sweeter, if that makes any sense?

Gear up, then suicide - the cycle of Day z

Yup, the irish, scots welsh and cornish are celts.
  23. On dayz commander, just type 'vanilla' into the filter box, and bobs your uncle, fannies your auntie. US3480 is the busiest vanilla server as far as I know. Hope this helps brother.

    I'm a little confused... :T

If I remember correctly, once you have installed the complete edition, you still have to start up arma 2, operation arrowhead, british armed forces and private military company seperately just once, to get dayz running smoothly. You don't need to play them, just start them up until they get to the main menu Hope this helps with your problem brother.

Gear up, then suicide - the cycle of Day z

I hear you loud and clear my fellow Celt. I felt the same way as you after spending many hours on SA. Its empty and boring as hell. My solution was to head back to the mod until SA sorts itself out. The rocket man warned us that his version of dayz would not be anywhere near ready until 2015 at the earliest, and we have to respect that. As the old saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day.
