new player, servers, mods---help etc
Jock McScottish replied to theldrin85's topic in New Player Discussion
I tried panthera a while back, got shot to bits within 15 minutes of starting until I gave up, I always felt playing Epoch, origins & Panthera was entering an exclusive social club. No-one would ever help you and you felt so unwelcome that you would quickly move on. -
I hear you tomroadrunner my good man, heli-hiding was one of the best rushes of the game. That feeling of utter fear as you were legging it through a field heading north and all of a sudden a heli passes over and you go prone, knowing that if you are spotted you are dead meat... Helpless and hoping for the best. I loved helis in the mod. They added to the dread, which is a good thing.

nah, no-one would take "zombieing" seriously. It would be comedy and trolling zeds left right and centre, and theres enough of that with the survivors already.

Im unable to quote posts on here, but aggathor I hope in your death you have helped other people to live, by making that bandit change his ways. Right enough, I don't see him being much of a danger to anyone either way :) I don't have a YT account but I checked your page and will watch your vids brother in the next couple of days when I have the time, that's an asda price promise  -
mos1ey, I tried to learn how to fly the heli in arma 2 training, and failed miserably. quit after about an hour of trying, and now Rocket wants to make it even tougher to fly a heli? Good on him!

momma always said dayz is like a box of choc-lits, you never know what your gonna get...

Good work Rhodes, but you should have game him a soda to wash those fish and beans down!
-
All the best zombie films had heli moments in them, & if helis are good enough for dawn of the dead then they are good enough for Dayz!
-
calm your jets kilak my good man, I haven't been able to get on a server yet since the new patch either. Best to go and make some toasted cheese and a big mug of hot tea and then come back in a little while and try again. & if you still cant get on? PANIC!!!

Oh no! people are going to find out that my real name is Michael and not Jock unless this gets fixed fast, I wanna see my lawyer!

Nice work with the first 'baddie' you encountered, that was a classy rescue! proper hero stuff  The last 'baddie' is the type of idiot though that leaves me shaking my head in dismay. I wish you had just put your axe through his stupid head when you got in front of him and put him out of his misery. It would have counted as a mercy kill as the guy was obviously brain dead. -
Are many people still playing the Dayz Mod?
Jock McScottish replied to Suhr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Weirdly enough, after playing standalone only since its release I finally geared my guy up, loadsa grub, mosin rifle with jazzy attachment I found, my guy looks like a badass. & what happens? Instead of running around with my geared up guy looking for adventure and whatever comes my way I had a strange yearning to play the mod again today. So I hopped on vanilla, zeds everywhere, found a tractor with some fuel and hopped in and started driving. Felt bloody great! Driving around, food on doorsteps instead of having to run around inside houses all day, Folks jive talking on the side chat, to be honest I felt like I had more fun in the 15 minutes I played back on vanilla than the weeks I have been jogging around on the standalone dodging mask wearing gimps and guys with motorcycle helmets, but no motorcycle... Standalone looks terrific will be great in the long run, but right now it just feels cluttered & po-faced when you go back and play the mod again. -

DayZ - Day3 - The One about the Spetsnaz (The story continues)
Jock McScottish replied to KoKaBamBO's topic in New Player Discussion
Just read day 1, a nice wee read and will defo read the rest. As someone said, its nice to read a story instead of watching the billion yt dayz vids for a change. keep up the good work :) -
Wolf-mind, I suppose Im just from an older generation of gamer that remembers in manhunt Starkweathers goons hunting me down with their funny masks and gas-masks... So as an older gamer when I see a player with that gear on, flashbacks happen and I am James Earl Cash all over again... That's my excuse for trying to kill 'em anyway.

No worries ether mr. Just to double check, I logged on again and sprinted about. In a field Im hitting early 80's. In wooded area next to town late 60' touching 70's. With the settings turned down mind. Not trying to pretend my gtx 650 can jump through fiery hoops!
-
Hello mate how you keeping? Im running 4gb ram and a gtx 650 with an i3 cpu, and I get around 80 fps in wooded areas, dropping to mid 30's at lowest in towns. I don't go to the big cities. Im no expert, but you have a better graphics card than I, so I think you need to turn down some of your video settings. There are helpful videos in the new player discussion forum that I used to make the game go from laggy to smooth. A wee tip from me too, after you have lowered the rendering stuff, I downed my resolution to 87% instead of 100, its still clear as a bell but gave my fps a great wee boost.

I hear you wolfstriked my good man, anyone who wears gas masks or payday masks aren't to be trusted IMO. Players who wear creepy masks aren't to be trusted. FULL STOP. They are the new bandits IMO.
-
Superb clip!, now I am the friendliest player you can meet, but even I was thinking 'pull the trigger' a second or so before the 'thing' was put out of its misery. They gave him every chance.

that's all well and good, but if you are like me and have no sense of direction, its safer to travel by road! Im useless at memorising the chernaurus map despite many hours of play on the mod and standalone, and without a compass after a few minutes of running through forests and checking deer stands I always seem to end up back near the coast, despite trying to head north... so I have to stick to the roads! The compass in standalone is my favourite item, cos Im literally lost without it. Im well jealous of the players that can memorise the map and can navigate by the sun and stars, My forty something brain throbs at the thought! So I will stick to the roads and road signs thank you very much! To be honest, in the standalone I haven't met anyone on my northerly travels anyway. I play on a server with an average of twenty folk on it any time Im playing, and see no-one. I even ransacked NW airfield and didn't encounter a soul, been playing for two weeks now without seeing anyone. I love the quietness though, no sidechat has to be the best thing ever.

Out in the open, but can hear gulping and chewing...
Jock McScottish posted a topic in General Discussion
So Im running north(ish) and am in a field, but can see a few houses in the distance. Then I start hearing the sounds through my headset of someone munching food and guzzling a can of soda very loudly, and I check all around me, but can see no-one. I check the houses nobody around then I continue my journey. So what I am basically asking is- how close does another player have to be to hear them eating and drinking? -
I hear you brother. Different and brilliant, I got a copy of the original arma1 many moons ago, and the minute I played it, it changed my gaming life. No first person shooter I tried ever came close to the loneliness & freedom of the arma games, and still don't. When I look at battlefield and COD, they just seem so empty and boring to me. Glad you are enjoying this new gaming experience my good man.

cheers for the help folks, yet another dayz anomaly! -
So why do people refuse being held up?
Jock McScottish replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
hmm, its a strange one. I have only had a chance to play properly in the last few days, and as yet in the game? I have bumped into no-one. I have also became attached to my character, its been fun gearing him up and splitting zeds with my axe. So I am still wondering how I will react to being held up. Reading through the thread I can understand both points to the argument, people don't want KOS, but they don't want to feel like anyones bitch either. The way I look at it is this, is being cuffed and force fed to death any worse than being killed on sight? Death is death in the game. If someone wants to cuff you and torture you? At least its interaction. You get an inkling to the workings of the person doing you damage and why they are doing it, and you get the chance to engage with them, to talk your way out of it or hope something crazy happens like the bandits get shot by a passing hero and lady luck smiles upon you. If you fail you fail, and its back to square one. Give me that any day over someone just shooting you on the spot as soon as they set eyes upon you. Folks on here saying that they would rather die a glorious death than dare let someone cuff them... are taking themselves and the game WAY too seriously. Lighten up and have some fun for goodness sake! All is fair in love and war after all... -
