  1. Nice assertion their though entirely baseless - how exactly does it "make sales" I'll answer that for you - it doesn't. See how much more COD and BF sell and they're 1st person only, so by your own logic you have successfully shot yourself in the foot - well done, have a banana. WOW that's a big banana - it took ages to peel it too :)
  2. This is just wrong - are you saying that if Dayz SA shipped as 1st person only, you wouldn't play it? I think we need a poll about this.
  3. How is 1st person "broken and weird"?
  4. I'm struggling to work out how it's fair if I'm sat on a roof using 3rd person to look over at you moving up the road and waiting till your back is to me before I kill you. If you meant that it's fair in the sense we can all use 3rd person the example above proves that to be wrong.
  5. I want to keep making this point, which is rather obvious but not not at the same time If dayz launched with no 3rd person, people would be used to it and would play like that. People would still have played it as much had it been this way - the game is simply too awesome to be missed. So going back to COD and BF - would these games require 3rd person to be a success - well obviously not. Could you imaging these games with a 3rd person view? Are there people on their forums screaming for 3rd person? No - so why is it an issue here then? Do DayZ players not player other FPS games? Are they making threads in those forums for 3rd person - no. It simply isn't an issue and irrelevant. So now that we know the success of the game is irrelevant to the view, and we know that for decades now FPS's, which is the name of a whole generator of games (FIRST person shooter), we can now dispel this myth that 3rd person is going to make a difference on sales. If the game ships as 1st person only, everyone is still going to buy it or they miss out on one of the classic games of this decade. You WILL be talking about DayZ years from now and if no 3rd person will put you off playing then it is those people that will miss out, but they will be very very few. So we no that the majority of DayZ'ers play FPS's and have no issue with that. DayZ will be a smoother FPS experience so what exactly is the argument here? So going back to what I said in the beginning, if we had no 3rd person to begin with, there would not be any 1200 page long threads about adding it in. It would be a non issue then right, so why isn't it a non issue now? It should be, for the reasons stated above.
  6. I dunno the Ai are pretty unique aren't they? lol have u ever seen ai like this anywhere? It needs to be said that the Arma AI is actually very good, just not for DayZ and much much better than almost any AI you'll find in any other game where it's scripted (even though they are incredibly dumb at times, but so are people). Also check this out http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/03/13/call-of-duty-red-orchestra-2-interview/ It's an interview with TripWire CEO who make red orchestra - He argues how COD ruins FPS's because of the entirely unrealistic movements in those games. People cannot spin 360 in a second, you cannot spin 360 on the floor either, neither can you sprint in one direction only to turn 90 degrees in an instant. As gamers we are used to twitch style shooting so when you play games like Arma or red orchestra, those "clunky movements" are more like real life. Read the interview it's pretty good and fair.
  7. I managed to live for 39 hours on a first person server whislt getting into several pvp fights - what killed me - coming out of one of the castle towers and glitching so i catapulted off the stairs and died when i hit the bottom...grrrrr - made 2nd place on the leader board though :)
  8. BIS made their money from the game before the game was made - Arma 2 sales last year were top of the steam best seller list - how many million players bought arma 2 to play DayZ at $20 a pop (that's $20 Million IF the figure is a million people that bought it for DayZ - what if it's more - I'd love to know the figures. Even if only 500,000 copies sold, that's still $10 million). Rocket said in a dev blog he wanted to charge more for the Alpha but BIS CEO (I think it was) Marek Španěl, said no even though the market is ripe for a game like this - they're not fleecing the consumer and people really should congratulate BIS on sticking with the community of gamers i.e. us. Unlike EA or Activision or Ubisoft, bunch of cunts that fleece gamers for everything they can get. Remember when COD had user made maps? Nope we'll make DLC and charge for that. BIS chose not to go down that route but uphold the gaming community. I don't buy those shitty cod or bf games anymore. there's no substance to them. It's a pity more people don't play arma for what it's made for but I suppose most people don't want immersion or something. Gone slightly off topic but BIS really do need the praise sang (and they sent spies to greece, how cool is that! lol j/k)
  9. There are other things you can do - set yourself an objective(s). Try to stay alive for as long as you can but going to all the high risk areas. Setting up a network of tents, repairing vehicles - the game is never ending, there is no end game so eventually you have to set yourself objectives because you're surviving now. When I log in I have things I want to do in that gaming session, or my mates and i decide on something. We move on foot so we get to see a lot more as well. The map is quite stunning in places.
  10. Well where are you going to sit as a sniper? The map is getting some major changes, all or most buildings are open, zombies are everywhere - see these "snipers" are lazy. They look for where zeds spawn - it's on the east side of town so I'll scan east - see how easy it is? Not with the SA though - now they'll have to look across the whole town which is suddenly going to become boring for them. Also with the new map, won't people be off exploring - i will be and I hope they add enough changes all over to make it fun. Also if there are more places to go that have good loot spawns, it's drag people across the map making the "snipers" role a lot more work which makes me lol

    Extreme servers?

Yep or US2 on the same though it's in the US so not liklely a good choice for you. SE2 is zombies.nu US2 is bmrf.me
  12. Exactly, so it's not worth having it in right? I think it was buggy anyway (why they removed it) and taking it away caused less strain on PC's.
  13. Most server you can change the slider of the view distance but it has no effect on view distance - it's coded into the pbo file so unless there's a menu option (from the scroll wheel, not video options), you're not actually increasing it.
  14. But that won't happen. Why would you not buy a game just because you can't use 3rd person? That's just ridiculous - talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
  15. Press numpad - (minus) and it should help some - you need to double-tap it to make it stick but it doesn't stick in vehicles. It's the FOV that causes it, it's too narrow for some people but can be alleviated and of course turning of motion blur and headbob (2 ridiculous options that really shouldn't be there unless you want your character to be on smack and 2 liters of vodka) will help too.
  16. Does anyone think COD and BF should have 3rd person?
  17. Does anyone here who votes for 3rd person play BF or COD?
  18. I'll try and address these 2 points. I play dayzero on BMRF - server is full almost every night on their 1sp person server. So your assertion requires statistics to back it up. As for cheating, it is, in a way but not like hacking - does that stop me from playing on 3rd person servers, no. Why is it considered cheating, because it gives an unfair advantage and where you talk about not seeing every head? In a 3rd person server you'll see no head, no chances at all and it's not just about these 2 players either. Even if the victim doesn't see the player peaking in 1st person, that doesn't mean there aren't other players that might see him - and he knows it. See how the game dynamic suddenly changes when things become risky rather than exploiting and sitting comfortably where nobody can see you? Like i said in a post above, had 1st person been the only option, the game would still be as popular and nobody would know any different. Does anyone ask BF3 or COD to be in 3rd person too? If they had that as an option in the beginning, wouldn't we have the same thing where most servers are 3rd person? But COD and BF2 are massively popular games so why isn't anyone screaming to have 3rd person? See how it's actually a none issue that if it wasn't there to begin with, nobody would care, just like they don't in COD of BF. There's no reason to keep it in, people are going to play the game - a little thing like this won't stop them if the game is awesome (and it makes the game a little more scary too). So removing it will inconvenience people for a while, maybe, but keeping it gives a stupid advantage to anyone on higher ground.
  19. There isn't much to add but there are some misconceptions by inexperienced players I'm seeing. Buildings New buildings are being added. They don't have all of them open but it's a continuing process. The green mountain example spawns military loot, other building spawn normal gear - to say it's "not much better" ignores the fact you have 5 times as many enterbale buildings with more on the way Bugs DayZ on Arma2 will never be without bugs. However, unlike vanilla, the dayzero team won't realease anything until it's been tested and optimised as much as they can get it, hence the better... Framerates Yes the grass is gone which helps but better optimisation too - and since most players turn their graphics down to remain competitive, the lack of high grass isn't really an issue but having those extra frame rates is way more noticeable. No Infection Yes this irritating mechanic is gone. Over on the BMRF server nobody plays vanilla anymore, they moved to dayzero servers leaving a handful of people to play vanilla. Zeds hit harder and bandaging is needed more - this is what should happen when you are limited with what you can do with the AI. You can still run around them but getting hit could mean you get knocked out and then you're dead. Trees Don't stop bullets anymore! and zombies can hit you in them. BMRF Have their own map so they've added things to the NE airfield to make it a better place to go plus a lot of other things. What's Different Not much - between the vanilla and dayzero it's pretty much the same game. In DZero, tents lack the item numbers, the hud is a little different, there's no temperature thing either (which I have never had an issue with ever in dayz vanilla). What's brilliant You can play both! Yes that's right, using your brain you can play them both because you with your brain gets to decide! Isn't that awesome? Not only that but you could try other variations like dayz panthera, namalsk, hooker island, cheerleader city and many more.

    What happened to the servers?

Yes but no 10 hour romps just to find antibiotics only to die. Not only that but frame rates are superior and there's more buildings you can enter. I'd much rather have have harder hitting zombies and more bleeding over infection.
  21. If it had only been 1st person from the beginning, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. So would the game as been as popular had it been this way from the beginning? If your answer is yes, 3rd person can go, right?
  22. Unlikely - Rocket wanted to charge more for the Alpha release but BIS CEO said no - BIS are one of the best software companies out there. Go play COD or BF4 and see what free mods you can download made by the fans. Arma has thousands of community made mods that all other game dev companies decided to cash in on themselves, dlc anyone? It's also an "Alpha" - so before we all jump on the bandwagon and start rattling our sabres, remember that the game will be released and the community (I would hope) would then have some say in what happens after and the game will grow from there. As for the HUD like the OP talks about, I don't really care. DayZ isn't a game where the hud matters to me. I want a good inventory system, good (bad, evil) zeds/infected and a decent survival system. I've never once looked at the hud and thought it was good - in fact I think it's awful as it goes.
  23. Is this a private hive or regular?

    Coastal crabs..

I play dayzero now so I don't have the infection problem - either way it still wouldn't stop me from leaving the coast. I spawn, make a quick stop to get some gear and then always head north, deciding where me and my mates are going to go. By doing this we get to see the whole map (Pobeda Dam is quite nice to sit by and eat some lamb chops and enjoy a mountain dew), find crash sites, get some better gear to come down south again. Everyone has a different way to play the game.

    What happened to the servers?

Try Dayzero on bmrf.me - they have 3rd and 1st person servers and an IRC channel to talk direct with admins should you need to (and who always seem to be there). It's whitelisted but very easy - you just sign up to their forums using your arma game name and that's it. They also run regular dayz plus some other brands. Highly recommend them :)
