Yes and the amount of stuff spawned is too high, or at least for food which is the type of thing you'd expect least of over other items.

This is not the experience my friend and I are having. We're sticking to low pop servers right now because we're trying to learn the game but we're both stocked up and have been on every life to the point where we're energized and hydrated and have more food than we'll ever need because it's everywhere. My only gripe with the spawn so far is the with the repeat items - where a school bag spawns and then every bag you find is a school bag. You have a table, you make it random - is it really that hard to get right?

Oh yes Rocket's BS claim of making sure the 3rd person was looked at and it's exactly the same. Unfortunately, until they optimise or I get a better rig, my FPS is that low it makes me feel ill after a while and 3rd person somehow eliminates this for me. Once my FPS issue is fixed, then it will be HC all the way but it's nice being able to cheat along with everyone else right now. To people who say they don't want a military sim, since when, in any history of any universe has First Person EVER been the remit of military sims only? So I guess COD is a military sim :rolleyes:

So I'm guessing I'm not the first one to point out that you usually don't find two of the most abundant materials on the entire planet just inside buildings right? So I need a stone to build a fire - ummm no I don't. I've built hundreds of fires and never needed to use a stone and what's with sticks! I can't pick up a stick in a forest and make a splint? So having bought the game pretty much when it came out I could only recently play it as optimization only just about gives me enough FPS to make it playable. When I first got the game I spawned on the coast, trying to work out my controls when some dick comes up and just starts punching me. Now I'm playing it more seriously with some friends, (other than an encounter with a 12 year who accidentally knocked me out whilst trying to kill zombies in a store but then tried to save me), every single encounter we've had has been KOS. It's hard to think that on a server with less than 10 people on it you'd just keep running into them all over the place. Because of low server populations, we let out guard down. We don't want to join a busy server right now as we're trying to learn the game and all the items and how they interact. To give you an idea of how much of a dick people can be, imagine making your way around a building looking for loot. All you have is a backpack and a hard hat. You walk into a corridor and the guy at the other end shits himself and starts blasting away. OK that's fine you're in a corner and you don't know what I'm going to do. But then when I run behind a cupboard for cover, bleeding, and then turn to face away and lay down on the floor, you don't stare at me for 10 seconds then shoot me dead, do you? Maybe you do - personally the best verbal interaction I've had on meeting another player has been from a kid, which you would expect because generally, kids aren't dicks. I would have preferred something a little more than a cowardly shot to the back as I was laying down facing the other way - make me drink disinfectant or something more creative than "hurr duurrr I gonna shoot you hurrrr"

I don't have much of an issue with the controls, I mean they've always been bad but I don't notice it at all now and I'm running at 9 FPS. They're not as bad as people make out what is bad is the lack of progress in the arma series. One thing that needs to be fixed is the door controls - don't lave me standing there pointing my mouse trying to get the sweet spot - FFS it's retarded!

Me and my buddy were in Berezino thr other day. We'd just got done healing a load of people as we run around as combat medics. For our efforts, these people gave us a pair of brand new M4's! We'd never had these before so we thought it was rather cool. Anyway, I ducked inside this little green and red house to feed the puppy dog I rescued earlier when some fucker killed it, taking me out in the process.

Even in the mod it's just the same thing, just more of it. There is nothing to do except survive and that might include, depending on which mod, base building (that someone can come along and blow up). The objective is to live and that's it so yeah, the day to day duldrum of looking for food and water is suddenly stifled when you see people suddenly show up and start trying to kill you. If they would add tents or storage in that would be something at least. You could then go looking for other peoples camps. Dayz for me is making my own objectives in game and enjoying the look of the map as I run around it.

Yeah exactly, everyone needs to stop sucking Dean's dick and ask themselves why they make a special case for him over other devs of great games. Nobody's jumping up and down about Arma 3 and congratulating one guy over it. Also, back in OFP (the first version of Arma) there was a zombie mod and have been in every version since. The issue is that they should have redesigned dayz from scratch giving it a new engine to work with rather than struggle with the arma code. It's a no brainer that you make the game look good and follow from this concept, you would have a winner of a game. Zombie games sell like hotcakes but DayZ doesn't look the part. I don't feel like i'm walking around in a zombie apocalypse. Where are the corpses, or parts of corpses that should be all over the place, the overgrown nature of buildings as nature takes its grip back, etc. Dean isn't anymore talented at coding than anyone else I would imagine so it's really about the concept and idea and how he wants it to play out Now he's leaving it and taking that with him, who's going to take up the direction of where it's going to go. This kind of shit I don't get - it's happened before in games where they start off with a really good sound and then completely change it to something shitty. Then someone comes along and says, "Well in RL that's how they sound, don't you know, yah" Presumably they listen to these sounds and go "yeah, that's much shitter. Just what we were after"??

You HDR levels will play a significant role in what you can see at night (At least they do in the mod). Saying that though, why the hell do you want to be going out in the pitch black of night? A zombie could just grab you and bite you and you're done for. Much better to go when you can see. Whenever I play dayz, when it comes to night I put a sleeping bag on the floor and go to sleep but not before I turn my speakers up really loud in case zombie comes in night and scares me.

I paid my ££'s to support the game knowing it probably wouldn't run on my laptop (which it does - at about 3-5 fps). I've played twice so far for a couple of hours but I'll wait till I upgrade my pc. I've walked many times too. In a game where there's no end in sight, it's just survive as much as you can, where's the rush to get places. My friend and I never use a car and nothing is that far away. We do usually run from place to place but when I'm on my own I'll often walk and you're right, when you really take a look at the map you appreciate the work that went into it - you actually feel like you're walking in something real.

I've quit playing Dayz Mod - it's SA all the way for me now though I might play some every now and then.

By definition those that play alone are already at a disadvantage because they are....alone! There's no reasonable argument that can be sustained that if you can do something to another person you can pretty much do it to yourself (in the case of blood bagging, I know a paramedic who says the procedure is a piece of piss). I've already stated my reasons for it earlier and how it should be changed but I've yet to hear a reasonable argument as to why being on your own should be any more of a disadvantage than it already is.
