When Base Building Is Introduced, What Will You Build?
Jex replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Mine's going to be shaped like a giant penis. -
Yup - aiming the SA80 with iron sights down range is an easy hit on a target 300m away. Just for those of you that haven't shot a rifle, at 300m, the front sight obscures the target entirely and beyond that, a SUSAT or ACOG is what you're going to need. In Dayz, isn't it the quality of the weapon and sight system that determines accuracy? Does anyone know if the things like "badly damaged" hand guard make a difference (i.e. the component parts of the rifle)?

Name a military simulator.

That is not equal footing unless both players are aware of each others existence like I said 2 or 3 pages ago. There's no way to argue that a player on a roof has equal footing to a player on the street below.
-
Do u have anything constructive to add?
-
No they aren't - I already destroyed your arguments if you would care to read up.

HazZarD87, on 28 Feb 2014 - 4:18 PM, said: Who's saying "they're better" because they play 1st person over 3rd? That's a stupid position to hold. I play 3rd person right now. I don't mind it, it's certainly less immersive and easier than the 1st person shooters and there's something aesthetic to be said about seeing your character running around to.
-
I never said anything about a choice, I meant you're wrong in your arguments about which is harder and also, your appraisal of "if we have the same advantage it's all ok" - read my posts above the one I quoted you on and you'll see why I think your arguments aren't compelling and easily countered. If it boils down to a choice thing then there's nothing there to argue :)

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!
-
Bullet drop yes, wind not really. There's no scope adjustment for wind either in any of the arma series to date.
-
On top of this, make the weight of your gear affect your movement speed so the AS50 for instance with ammo plus the rest of your gear is going to slow you down.
-
Duping also ruins the whole "economy" of the game - remember when everyone was running around with the super rare AS50's? They really need to assign tags to gear or something so they can recognise a duped item.

There's a pirate ship?

What I expected and what actually happened (...)
Jex replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
Hey count yourself lucky you even got that out of them. I've been thinking about becoming a fireman and running around electro making sure people report any fires they see or stocking up on medical supplies and helping people out. I want to find the most ridiculous outfit I can make too and find people to sell it to. -
Wrong.

I haven't slept in 2 days after this event. HELP!

This is a good lesson for noobs - don't walk up behind a player and shout in their ears. Peek from behind a wall and do it. -
The boxer analogy is flawed to begin with because a guy sitting on a roof using 3rd person is clearly NOT on the same footing as the guy below him, walking up the street and oblivious. A better analogy would be where 2 boxers are waiting for the bell when one boxer sucker punches him before the bell has rang. Well they both had the chance to sucker punch the other, right?

I don't have an issue with the controls either. Once you turn off mouse smoothing and weapon deadzone, things become much better. They probably haven't done this which is why the experience is so awful for them except going into 3rd person doesn't make the controls any easier.

Funny, from that page is this video Show's Frankie using 3rd person to get the jump on a player behind the fence. Notice that in this scenario, the other player does not have the ability to spot Frankie at all (btw I'm not criticising Frankie, videos are better as a mix of 3rd and 1st person but this shows how unfair 3rd person view is when it can be used like this).

Error....Reality cannot handle this concept. *Reality implosion imminent*

What about the doors!!!!? Jesus in a balloon those things fuck me off so much. The other day, on those 3 garages after trying to close the damn things for about 30 seconds i managed it but the doors closed on me putting me on the inside where I didn't want to be!
-
I believe the 3rd person view was implemented so you could control your AI squad and have better SA as to where they were. First person shooters always have a vision view and 3rd person doesn't fix that. Fix the camera so it's restricted to left right movement and level with the players head and you'll find these forums explode with "fix the 3rd person view!" Peripheral vision does not extend over fences or around walls but there is an FOV slider. Does anybody want to take a guess at the angle it goes back to? (real peripheral is about 160 degrees I think). You can also buy 3 monitors.

So what happens when herp is walking along the street and derp is sat on top of a roof. No amount of looking for a human shaped outline is going to help you and as soon as your back is turned, you're a dead man. Or, derp is walking down a road, there's a junction up ahead and herp is hiding behind a wall but using 3rd person to look around it undetected. Whilst there is the illusion that both players have the same advantages, this is obviously false. The only time this is true is if you put them on a symmetrical map with the foreknowledge the other player is there. Now you're on equal footing. 3rd person takes less effort and exposes you to zero risk as you don't have to move your AV, just the camera view. So provide an argument against mine as all you're doing is asserting something right now :)

Did u turn your mouse smoothing all the way down? I've done this and don't suffer the acceleration that badly and i'm running on really shitty FPS (maybe only just getting into double digits unless I go into a town). Not sure on the zoom levels since you go into 1st person to shoot anyway and your FOV slider affects your zoom massively.
-
This is demonstrably false. Sit on top of a roof and see how much harder it is find and engage other players and easier since you can see around and over objects. So how is it more "tactical"? Maybe you sit in a corner but that's not how i know people play it. You can sit i na corner in 3rd person and it makes it easier, not harder to see what's going on. This is obvious.
