In that case why not just make the whole map one huge city? Nothing in the mod was unused map space and it's ridiculous having towns 300m apart. It also adds to the lonely nature of an apocalypse - with the amount of crap they're adding it makes the map go from realistic and amazing to a shit load of copy and paste everywhere, saturating everything. Not only that but it's hugely unimaginative and dull.

I like the grass, just thin it out a lot so u can render it out to 500m. With the new stance system in arma 3 you can now moves so much that seeing just over the grass isn't an issue. Of course when the other guy ur shooting at doesn't see any grass around you, you stand out. A bare landscape just looks awful and unrealistic though great for the FPS :)
-
Another thing I was thinking that could be done as well is the uses of patchwork grass. So you don't have grass evenly spread out. You start by rendering the grass around the player but as you move away from the player the grass gets less and then further out it just renders "patches" of grass. These patches would be small and spread apart far so in between it would be derendered landscape. The patches though would be numerous enough to make them worth hiding in. So looking from your player, you would see fairly thick grass coverage to 50-100m then it thins out a lot then you get just patches. From your eyes there would be maybe 50-100 of these patches so more than enough to hide in (unless you check all 50-100 patches). The problem of course is how much can u render, remembering the further out u go, the available space that needs to be covered increases exponentially.
-
I see the OP's point. Even though no engine renders grass out passed what, 100m, why is it the AI can see through it? Or can they now - has this been rectified and is now a thing of the past? Also how about working on drawing grass out to 500m - can't they just have less of it but more spread out?
-
I know u can bind controllers, for example, my joystick throttle is bound to sprint so I can hit that and I have auto run (and why isn't this coded in the game yet?? FFS BIS put in AUTORUN!). Arma allows you to configure multiple controls but haven't played in a couple of months so idk - I'm thinking you should be able to though,

Is DayZ going to have microtransactions/DLC?
Jex replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
That isn't going to work because it didn't work before. Dean has stated that the game will be open up for full modding so we can expect the same as the mod. I'm going to set up a server and charge for it. It's goingg to say on my website "Hey Fuckers I don't need the money for the server, I just like money and you're all too stupid so just sign up and you can have full gear after every death and get payback on those bitches - YEEHAW!!!" Then I'm going to use the money I make to pay some gay porn star to bugger Rocket. -

You mean the $50 a month server rental? -

Don't forget Arma 2 had DLC which was in the mod - players without the dlc just saw a crappy skinned version of the hero and bandit skins iirc. I'm fine with DLC for maps, not micro transactions for anything AT ALL (fuck that shit). New maps are far more interesting and add more depth than any other content. Like the study on piracy too :) -

LMAO WTF????????? And allowing modding of the game keeps the community together as well right? That didn't splinter it neither did allowing a switch between first and 3rd person (or not fixing it so it didn't cause a rift). Sorry not having a go at you but Rocket's talking out of his ass. What a complete load of bollocks. As for DLC's I say yes for maps - the community made ones were ok but lacked the quality of Cherno and I'd happily pay for a new map. They could just add it so it's like a continuation of the other map, so when you pass over it loads that new map and puts you in a server so it's like you never really left the game. -
I don't get the desire for more towns and villages, as if there isn't more than enough already. Imagine walking down a straight road, you walk through a town, out the other side and 5 minutes of in the country and ur in a town again. Now repeat that over and over with the same looking towns and that's what DayZ is turning into. The map didn't need anymore towns for a start. Since when do 40 player servers need a fucking town for each player on the map? There's more than enough shit on it BEFORE they decided to fuck with it. Also remember that when the mod came out, 90% of the buildings you couldn't enter so the map size as far as buildings goes has literally increased a 1000 fold. It's got to the point now where it's just adding in shit for the sake of it. Are we appeasing the players who just can't stand having to wait to get to another building so we have to fill up the country side so they only have a 2 minute walk between cities? What is this fucked up, bat shit crazy, insane addiction to cities??? Has the map maker gone completely mad!? Have BIS let the zombie genre get to them and their brains have started rotting? Adding city after city is not making the map better it just ruins the unique countryside and in it's place another block of building that all look the same as the last fucking lot. I'm unimpressed to say the least. How about digging up those shitty cities/towns and like others here have said, give us some unique things? It's not like we haven't been asking for this shit for months now (check the suggestion forum). Where's the big country estate house, you know, the one with the 18 bedrooms and a chandelier all covered in cobwebs? Where's the farm that has "unique" barns and stables, fenced paddocks and sweetcorn growing in the fields and a farm house? Where's the old Windmill with it's tattered sails blowing in the wind, creaking as it sits all lonely on top of a hill? Where's the imagination that was in the original map FFS? Nope just copy and paste shit everywhere.

For another explanation I guess you could use a torch to visualise it too - shine the light when you're close to the wall and the light circle is small and grows bigger as you back away.

Well for one thing there's getting that really long shot which is what the challenge is. On the other side of it it teaches you to never stay still for long and to also think about how you position yourself. The world is a dangerous place and you can't go browsing cities like a cow in a field. Those who take care survive better and longer. Those that don't.... Well those ones never were going to survive a zombie apocalypse....

ONLY in DayZ will you get forum posts titled like this ;) -
Brilliant I can't add text outside the quote because the stupid editor here is crap. Anyway - how frikkin awesome is that story! :beans:
-
In the mod you could fall any height and survive as long as you didn't hit the ground. As funny as that may sound, I mean the ground. If you landed on any object you would live without injury I think. This may also be the case in the SA.
-
OK so we avoid all stairs until the bug is fixed - no way I'm risking death by bug - death by player is bad enough but after surviving zed encounters, starvation, gun fights for weeks, having found all the good gear and pleased you've managed to stay alive all this time when the game says FUCK YOU ASSHOLE! Nope.
-
Once they open it up to modding, expect gunz gunz gunz! and carz carz carz! And chopperz chop.....
-
Yes there are topics about. Yes we need another one. Why? Because it's Green Mountain and the Devs NEED to do something to make it way more special than it is. Green Mountain has been a DayZ phenomenon for years and for that reason it needs some extra TLC and map design. :)

LMFAO - Love it! :) :beans:

Death messages are noobish. -
It should be like Arma 3. BIS have finally added realism to Arma 3 infantry fighting and yet don't use this model in their other FPS? I haven't played it yet, but if it's as slow as people are reporting then it's incorrect. You can move fairly fast with a gun up - I know, I've done it RL.

Should hopper zombies be removed for now before the next stable patch?
Jex replied to Zed's Dead's topic in General Discussion
LMAO evolution is too complicated for me yet you're the one stating we evolved from Monkeys????? Go back and read a book and Biology has nothing to do with the way zombies act. Pay attention at school next time. Edit: BTW even though you're wrong about evolving from monkeys, let's just assume you're right. So we evolved from monkeys and yet there's no way a zombie would show the characteristics of a monkey? The fact you're arguing about a fantasy being and how it should act just goes into realms of stupidity way to crazy for me. Perhaps we should just agree to disagree at this point?
