Yes that's what I've been talking about lol - I think we got mixed up somewhere. Basically factor in environmental effects and make long range shooting hard. We want realsim in ballistics and don't want the devs to come up with some crap system in it's place :) This way only people that practice shooting are going to be any good and then a percentage of them with be KOS'ers. I would learn to shoot, it's something to aim for but I'm not going to go around shooting people. If I then got shot, at least I would know the person put time and effort into it and it wasn't some noob ;)

Personally I think it should be as close to rl as possible which is complicated. If you don't want to put in the hours learning it then don't, but it means you can't snipe and if you do ever get hit at 800m whilst you're on a spacehopper racing over the hills, you'll at least know s/he earned the shot unlike in arma 2 where sniping was way too easy ;)

The point here is that he hit, not where he hit. Right now in Dayz you're not even getting body parts at range. I don't agree that sniping should be easy, add in the complexity and make it a skill you have to learn. Why do you think a more complex ballistics model will cripple your PC?

Randomness is crap. Even a badly built Mosin will fire exactly the same given the same ammunition each time. The barrel may be bent but it's permanently bent, it doesn't randomly bend in the night. Ammo is also likely to be the same quality per box, maybe with variation per box. Every single detail does not need to be included but what they should aim for is making the player learn how to shoot and reward the ones that can be good with it. He uses an L115A3 firing a .338 lapua round - effective range 1500 yards - actual range of shot, 2707 yards, or 8121 feet. Each shot is called in by the spotter to direct the kill shot onto the target - it's not random.

However a clan or group is likely to have surplus supplies, so the dead player is just a new person they found and took into their midst and equipped. Tents for small groups/individuals get found and raided so they don't guarantee gear after you die. Tents used to disappear a week after you died in the mod I think but it should be quicker in the SA. -
Good post OP. My only complaint about the game is BIS didn't jump on the Mod when they should have done and were slow to pick it up. Saying they're changing the engine halfway through development wasn't and was good to hear. It really depends on who you are. Me, I can wait a year or 2 or whatever but I think had Bis decided on a new engine to begin with, who knows where we would be now. So I have a question. If the game comes out and is the best zombie game ever - does it matter if it comes out in a week or 2 years time?

I could hit a target at 300m with iron sights lol when I was in the army and that was the first time I ever shot it. My first shot missed, it impacted just below the target. Next shot I adjusted my aim, fired, looked up over the sights, target went down. This was with the SA80. Shooting isn't that hard and yeah, snipers kill with one shot - that's their point (as far as this discussion goes anyway :))

The counter to snipers is to move in a way that denies them a shot on you at all or makes it very difficult to get one. I played the mod for over a year and can't think of a time I got sniped, maybe once or twice. What they need to do is make the ballistics realistic. Things like wind, humidity, etc - all the things that make long range shots difficult in the real world need to be in a ballistics model of every shooter game. Adding dispersion is the lazy-ass way of fixing things. When sniping at 1000m is just a case of getting the range right and elevating the sight, then it's going to be easy for most people whereas in reality, the opposite is true.

No you need to shoot at the wounds people have and the disinfected arrow cleans and heals them, stitching them at the same time if you craft it with the rope as well. -

As soon as you enter any area deemed "military" the gloves come off and it's every man or woman for themselves, ESPECIALLY the NW airfield which takes all that time to get to. People don't want to leave empty handed. -

Wow where do I begin?!! OK let's dispel this myth you're making about how fast I get pissed off. To you reading my posts you think I'm pissed off whereas for me I'm sat here calm as candy. I don't get pissed off over a game, or peoples opinions of games but you make a bad argument and I'll jump all over it :) It's nice you should say I'm unique, but seriously, I am not the sole person out of 7 billion who have patience to wait for a game to load and in fact, proof is all over these forums if you want to go looking for it which makes your argument wrong already, without surveying the other 699,999,999,918 on this planet. OK as for server hopping, yes in game solutions can be good but really, I don't care how it's done as long as it's stopped. I'm not saying there's only one way but when people know they'll have to wait before they can hop to another server then they won't do it, or they can and deal with the consequences. Since I don't rty to exploit the game, I don't suffer the wait and if I do have to wait 5 minutes to play a game, it's no big deal. People who do think it's a big deal and get enraged are so far up their own backsides I couldn't give a shit :)

If someone runs into a house they better be prepared to wait 10 minutes before logging back in or they're getting shot. After that time I won't be in the area so I'm not going to get shot. This is a ridiculous tactic unless your sole aim in the game is to run around Berezino pvp'ing in which case I rather you didn't play dayz at all :)

No, getting back into the same server you logged out of should be instant as long as you haven't joined another server in between. You only get a penalty if you start switching servers

Yes of course I know about people, which video game players are but you're just showing your ignorance. You think there would be no game? How is that so - I'm the only human being in existence am I that can wait 10 minutes? No? I'm not? Then there must be others like me. Also wtf is this? What percentage of players of any video game are ready to wait TEN minutes to log in to a game ? Ask around in the industry. You are ready to wait I guess ? Please tell us what is a reasonable time that you would wait to log in to a game. Try reading what I'm writing please it saves so much time for both of us. You wait if u server hop - you get that? You don't wait to get into the game - there - got that now? Do you now agree or disagree?

Arma 2 HDR effects for this were ridiculous. Your eyes adjust way quicker but I haven't really noticed it in the SA. Saying that, the new engine is bringing a new light model which will hopefully fix all of this :)

And we're bother about these players why? (lol 90%? did a survey did you? ;)) Impatient players can leave as far as I care. If you can't wait 10 minutes then DayZ isn't the game for you.
